I just bought the new RS NAV S2 8.8" so i am excited for that. I also upgraded my MMI to the 3G Plus version. I will do a proper installation video and a review of both when i return home sometime next month.
Hi Kino, i do have a couple of questions if you on't mind :) i am looking to buy this RSNAV aswell for my S5 B8 sooo. 1. Any specific reason why you upgrade from RSNAV S1 8.8 to S2? 2. Is there any difference between 3g High and 3g+ that would be reason enough to upgrade? 3. The 4G antenna and radio antenna, did you get any issues installing them and will you show the installation in your new video? 4. When do you think you will be don with the installation video? (trying to restrain myself here .. want to order it now but i rather wait for a good instruction video on the installation) Cheers :)
@@froddish not needed. usually, it is really expensive to upgrade to 3g+ and just few pluses of upgrading. RSnav should work fine if you have 3g high or 3g+
I'll do a video review of the S2 unit when I get the right cable. I understand that a lot of people struggle with installation. I want to make it easier for everyone and also share the UI and added features.
Looks way better than the 10.25" and 12.3" versions in my opinion.. How did you install and connect the speaker in the center bye the way? Was there a cable already existing for this or where did you plugged it in? Did you use an extra amplifier for this?
Is the 8.8 not touch screen? I want that factory look over the kinda awkward 10.25, but if it's not touch screen I'm not sure. Also, did you have to do any trimming/cutting to get the trim to fit? They have a disclaimer about that on the website.
@@hanifsimpson Oh is the touch screen janky/unresponsive? Sorry to grill you, but I've emailed RSNav twice now asking for some help choosing head units and they won't respond. It's like they don't want my money...
@@therealjoshtodd No it's responsive. I just don't wanna bother to reach for it especially since the controls are easier to use because your hand naturally lays there on the armrest.
@@hanifsimpson Ah, gotcha. Fair enough. Did you have to do any cutting or modification to the trim piece or did it snap right in? Are you happy with it or do you wish you had gotten the 10.25/12.3?
Did you have any problems with the replacement trim that it comes with? I am looking to order one of the new S3 models in 8.8" but there are warnings about problems with the trim but I can't find anyone talking about it so idk how big an issue it really is.
I'm in the same boat as you. I also saw his warnings, but I'd be willing to work at it a little harder if I can have the "built-in" OEM look. I would really like the 8.8" screen in my car.
@@Mikeeg0607 Exactly, that's basically my one question. It looks like everything else is explained somewhere. I will be talking to him at some point to hopefully get those answers (might be closer to Christmas), if you all of a sudden ask him first, would you mind sharing the info here?
..how much the unit cost and that's a special trim piece with the larger screen hole? Where'd you order it from? Last question how Straight forward was the Install? I've got plenty of radio/indash tv install hours under my belt just never touched an Audi b4 but I need what you got 4 sure
Cost is in the 600ish range, but dont hold to that price...things could change...the install seems fairly straightforward for a person audio/technology savvy...👍
bro, did you need to change the plastic cover in the corners to fit properly in the dashboard? more exactly, the right down corner , near the air vent. any info would be appreciated.
Hey, great video. I have a 2015 Audi S5 and am looking to do this upgrade (primarily because the navigation is useless and clunky and there's no good phone mount setups I like). That said, how does this system connect to data for things like Google Maps, Android Auto, and RU-vid? Do you pay a subscription like a mini-phone bill or something?
Hi, how long does it take to boot up completely? Is it going to idle/stand up mode for some time after switching off the engine or it's always booting from very beginning? I was going to buy one but I have doubts about booting time. I have heart that someone bought unit with Android (not from RS Nav) and it was terribly slow and he could reverse from parking 5 times before the system starts and reverse camera switch on. Do you have reverse camera with this, do you know how it looks here? Btw. your S5 is a very nice one!
RS Nav uses different and better hardware from the competition and is a much more refined. Also, HW 3.0 that's available now boots up faster than stock (less than 3 sec). Moreover, it doesn't fully shut itself down until 10mins or so after the engine is off.
Upgraded MMI isn't present in this video because that happened after. RS NAV is installed in this video. That consist of a new bigger 8.8" screen, New bezel housing and harnesses along with antennas.
hi ,i have a4 b8 with mmi 2g high, without ami, aux and bluetooth connection, if a install this system i can play music from the phone?, and how to appear as calls on the screen ?
If you type in RS Nav on Google you'll find the website. They are gonna have an updated HW 3.0 unit so I'd hold off on that one. For existing customers there's gonna be a method of upgrading it.
Bit late to the game, but a question about the volume. You were almost max volume in the video, but it didn't seem like it. Does the volume control only adjust the volume within the android unit? Is it as loud as it was with the standard system? Thanks
I either had one of them down. There's the system volume and the android unit volume. I cannot put it to max volume as it would be too loud for my taste and trust me it gets really loud.
@@hanifsimpson brilliant, thanks for the reply. I was just concerned, as with some android units, the sound is terrible, but with this being an addition it should be fine. Appreciate the feedback 👍
Great review. Looks like they've worked out most of the issues from the early versions. The 8 inch model fills in that space perfectly. What did you replace the center speaker with? It sounds much better then stock B&O.
@@hanifsimpson so that improvement is solely from the upgrade to the RS NAV? Very impressive. Curious why you're upgrading the MMI after installing the RS unit. What's the additional benefit?
@@Willabus2 Well, I found an affordable 3G+ unit. RS NAV doesn't replace your MMI it is an extension that adds Android and lots of possibilities with that.
Good videos man! They helped a lot... I'm thinking to buy one of this but I'm not sure about the Android Auto dongle. Did u buy it as well? If not, can I reply to messages and use my phone fully? I also would like to install front and rear camera as I have no pdc at front. Cheers from Germany
Sick af bro! I need to hop on one of these aswell. Also noticed you have the 2017-18 steering wheel. How did you get it working? I have mine in already but the horn doesnt work aswell as everything else lol
You have the B9 Steering wheel aswell? That's what I'm trying to find out if I can install! I'm finding some used ones online without airbag though unfortunately. how did you get it to fit?
@@ChaseEverything If you're talking about mine then it requires a adopter to get the steering wheel buttons to work. Moreover, you'll need to repin the airbag plug as the pinout is a little bit different. Sorry for the late reply
@@hanifsimpson No worries. I've decided I'm going to try and buy a different car as it seems too complicated and I think the mods I want to are not economical for the age of the vehicle haha! Still might keep it and do it though. Keep it as a car I work on I suppose.
@@hanifsimpsonit looks awesome But I am in the UK bro, we don't get cars like that unless we import them lol. Even then imported cars will be like £6000 a year to drive. I'm looking at Mercedes Benz C class w205. I came from Mercedes before if you see on my channel :)
It's easy for me as I have experienced taking all the trims off. I'd say it's 4/10 difficulty wise for everyone else where 2 is changing a tire and 10 is changing your flywheel.
Also, I have no regrets as this unit looks oem and much bigger screen closer to 9" coming in at 8.8" compared to the 10.25 unit that looks like an afterthought like a tablet got stuck there.
@@hanifsimpson where i can find that HW version ? my OEM boosts up fast .there is no Android in background , the Question is how is it with the RS android ?
@@eyala1988 It's great man. The website doesn't sell the 2.0 versions anymore only the newer version. Hence, you're good to purchase it now if you want to.
@@hanifsimpson yea it will feel better to drive and use this system instead of the original one that dont have and feature . I will order one based on your review 😊👍
@kino king o read from audizine members that the dashboard trim fit is bad. Even Daniel admits it... you don’t seem to mention this , did u solve the fitment issue?
I made some adjustments to mine. You'll figure it out when you get it. I upgraded to the S2 version but doing a some gasket replacement that I didn't while installing the Supercharger. Hence, I'll get back to installing the new version soon.
Kino King the S2 has the same dashboard fitting issues , so Daniel told me to buy the 10.25 vs 8.8 Here’s the thread: RSNAV S2 8.8 Questions www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=896242
Hay mate, great vid. I have a question during navigation dose it show directions on the cluster also phone calls, radio, basically interested to know what happends to cluster screen with this
@@hanifsimpson thanks for that, So the instrument cluster no longer communicates with thr mmi with this mod, its not a issue realy because the steering works on the main screen,
@@humziefadel4000 It still does show navigation on the cluster but not any downloaded map applications and only the original maps. You don't lose anything from this Navigation unit you only gain features.
I retrofitted the front PDC and it came from factory with the rears. The rears worked but haven't driven my car yet to test the front as it's all torn down to become something even more special now.
Man, this is a good video for showing off some of the things RSNAV does. It answered a number of questions for me, but two things I'm curious about: do you have to manually adjust the display brightness at night or does the unit do this automatically with the headlights? Also, I have noticed these units have a SIM card slot. Is a SIM card required for all the features or will everything still work using wi-fi/hotspot connectivity to a smartphone? Been thinking about this for my A5. I've seen the 10" tablet style screen which looks nice, but I really like the look of that 8" screen in your car. Super clean looking.
@@hanifsimpson Thank you for the info! I am planning to upgrade the Audi Concert system in my B8.5 in the near future, this looks like a very good way to go.
How would you compare this to the CIOKA 8.8” unit? RSNAV says they’ll have an Android 9.0 version out in August but don’t know if I can’t wait that long, lol.
Hey mate, With the concert system I have I can listen to music with engine off, Once the car detects the batterys going too low to restart the engine it turns off my concert system, I just bought the same unit as you, Will it do the same?
Yes, it behaves like the OEM unit. It's an addition to the MMI not a replacement. Think of it as just having more features with Android at your disposal.
sweet setup, why didn't you choose the 10 inch screen? I don't know which to pick and have you thought about adding wireless android auto so that the display can read your notifications and so you don't have to tether your phone data to the unit?
I don't fancy the tablet style displays whether aftermarket or on new cars. The 8.8" display fits in the oem location of the 7" and it looks like it belongs there and not an afterthought. Maybe, I'll get the wireless dongle but haven't really had a need for it yet.
The website rsnav.com or any forum like audizine as many people have it now. I was one of the first adopters and software updates brought more stability and features. I wouldn't consider it as its a million times better than what you got. Its a buy it now kinda product.

Kino King, thank you for your swift reply! I have a 2012 Audi A5 S Line and the screen on it is rather small and the display quality is ok, but you can discern the individual pixels almost. I was contemplating on just sticking an iPad mini. But then I came across your video and will check this instead. Thanks again.
@ They have 8.8" and 10.25" if you're interested in the bigger screen then wait until Jan 2020 as they are releasing upgraded hardware with even higher resolution screens and better faster hardware. I'll be sticking with my 8.8" as it suits my needs.
@@hanifsimpson bolt on right? buttons work and no airbag fault? did you have to adapt the airbag or code from the old airbag or anything? i want to swap but i cant sacrifice safety
Kino King Hey Kino, I want to drop a B9 steering wheel into my B8. Besides the wheel and airbag, what “adapter” did you get...and from where? Thx much for your time!
Yes. Wireless Apple car play is available with a dangle. If you have android then you can download a app for wireless Android Auto. This is the same for the newer S2 upgrade that will be available in February. This version is no longer available. Although, there's nothing wrong with this version but I will be upgrading come Feb.
Kino King I have the same B8 S5 as you. So when I’m on their site, it doesn’t have an option for S5. Did you buy the S1 a4 pre-facelift? Or did you buy the a5 version knowing a5 would fit your s5?
I haven't really mess with it enough to know. I have my car all torn apart and haven't used it enough to know. However, it has android so you can download whatever feature/application you want.
Lol never realize a it’s an Android (looks OEM) jah know star. I have a b6 s4. Me deh ya a pre a upgrade and a pre s5 vids and your vid fwd. looking a s5 manual.
I like it Kino! Need to upgrade to that screen. Not sold on the 10" screen. But CarPlay totally worth it. Others can see how to install the basic kit here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YC_pygXw82Q.html
Hey very nice video, is there any possible way that I can ask you some more specific questions about you’re Audi maybe on Instagram? For example how you managed to use the B9 steering wheel on you’re B8.5 and some more stuff to the RSNAV. LG Max
