Som en del av prosessen med å overbevise tv-kanalene om at RS Stavangers siste seilas var verd å lage en tv-dokumentar av produserte vi denne pilotfilmen. Fotografert og klippet av Truls A. Antonsen

I have nothing to do with this channel, video or vessel, but 53 sailors was saved by it. Wonder how many ancestors of those sailors are alive today, thanks to this vessel... This translation is my thanks, just in case I am one. All disclaimers. Anyone may reuse these efforts of mine, as long as it does not conflict with the content and its intent. I have taken the liberty to add some meta information in parenthesis (thanks to Wikipedia and maps from Kartverket). The original language has some archaic phrasing. Since I don't know the original material, I have deliberately tried to keep the translation somewhat literal. I believe it will be easier to detect errors that way, in case someone want to proofread and use this translation further. 0:16 Sunday, 12th of January, 1908 0:19 Wind: South-West, storm. 0:26 Sailed to the Hallaren to get a mid-wife to a woman on Titran 0:30 Got the mid-wife on board and sailed from Hallaren at 2 o'clock 0:34 Had to take in 2 reefs, both in mainsail and jib, 0:36 since there was enough winds to make the ocean foam and very heavy. 0:41 The midwife became very seasick. 0:43 We had to tack up to Beistadvik (Bustavik?), 0:46 so she could walk the rest of the way. 0:59 The 3rd of August, 2002, RS Stavanger departed 1:03 from Risør, on her last voyage. 1:06 The vessel left "trebåtfestivalen" (wooden-boats-festival) 1:08 to sail north along the coast and finally put in a museum on land. 1:14 Engineer and shipbuilder Colin Archer was a committee-member, 1:16 when the Norwegian company for rescue of the shipwrecked 1:18 (NSSR later RS) was founded, in 1891. 1:23 He was charged with creating a hardy and 1:24 maneuverable rescue-vessel with good performance. 1:30 On the 15th of October year 1900, 1:31 he got an order from RS, for two vessels. 1:34 Only 5 months later, both were launched and ready to sail. 1:43 One of these were rescue vessel (RS) No. 14, RS Stavanger. 1:48 The length of the vessel is 47 feet, 1:49 beam is 4,65 meters and displacement 31 ton . 1:54 She carries 110 sqm. sail. 1:58 Price on delivery 1901: NOK 10363,- (about 25 avg. year salary). 2:06 Stavanger was stationed on the island of Titran 2:07 on the coast of Trønderlag. 2:08 The vessel operated with sail and ores only and had a crew of 4. 2:13 The white sails with red rings, were a safety 2:16 and gave hope of salvation if accident struck. 2:23 Almost exactly 100 years after construction, 2:25 Stavanger is again in ownership by Redningsselskapet (RS) 2:28 It has gone through an extensive antiquarian restoration, 2:31 to be exactly as it was, when it sailed in active duty. 2:36 Engine and other technical installations have been removed. 2:38 Stavanger has only sail and ores to help with maneuvering 2:46 During its 38 years as rescue-vessel, 2:48 RS Stavanger rescued 53 people from certain death, 2:52 While 2976 boats and 20 ships were towed or assisted. 3:09 Thursday, 4th of October. 3:10 Wind; North-east, fresh, with showers. 3:16 A woman came aboard and asked us to sail, to search 3:20 for a fishing-vessel, which didn't return last night. 3:23 Set sail immediately, course towards Galleskjærene (skerries) 3:32 Encountered the missing vessel 5 quart-mile south of Galleskjærene. 4:00 Came up below them; 4:02 It turned out they had lost one ore and broken the rig. 4:12 Took the boat on tow and tacked up to Bjørnsund, 4:14 which was its home port. 4:18 The people said that they wouldn't have gotten much further, 4:21 since they had neither sail nor ores to help.
