I love that the Aer Lingus strike talks were “understandably” held up by the bank holiday weekend. Slower, simpler times. I remember entering the Lyon’s Tea win an Escort competition over from London visiting my grandmother.

@@johnwayneonacid1366 I remember the ads for dosing cattle and sheep 'Rincas, Rust and Septoria'. Back then, the big question was, Do you use 10:10:20 or 8:8:18?. Michael Dillon (Cowjak) on Mart and Market. Happy days. I still have the theme tune in my head!

What was surprising & pleasing about watching these old adverts on the Irish state broadcaster RTÉ1 TV from the early 1980s was the fact that many of the adverts were native rather than "foreign" i.e. not as many "imported" adverts from UK TV or at least many of the adverts shown were voiced by narators whose voices were in (general)Irish accents. However some of the programming featured "imported" TV shows from the UK TV as well aa the usual American TV. But nice to see and hear this on the fledgingly Irish Republic's national TV channel!

There is a building society ad at 17.45. the manager reminds me of Terry Wogan, there is a very brief shot at 17.45 of the manager nodding and smiling. Terry Wogan worked in a bank before going into entertainment

that how i remember RTE the news back with joy to watch not protracted like today's news dragged out and boing and going outside to other news correspondents for news updates . the should just read news as its prepared and cut out all the prattle. Anne Doyle knew how to comport herself . not like some of the female news anchors today

Ann Doyles diction was great then with her Rs Later she began to pronounce things like Betty Ahen for Bertie, and Mayee Hanny for M Harney Who could match Michael Ryan for delivery Weather legend Paddy Mc Hugh. Not a sign of yellow wind or orange heat wave

In 1980, what were the broadcast times for the news bulletins on RTE 1 and RTE 2? Was there just an early evening and main evening news, as I guess there was no such thing as the lunchtime news on RTE Television in 1980? Thanks.

I would have sworn the early evening news always came on at a minute past six (at least on ordinary week days), just after the Angelus. Mandela Effect, I suppose?! Although now as I think about it, round about this time they used to put on fifteen minutes of cartoons (usually Popeye) between the Angelus and the News, unless I'm confabulating that, too!
