@@JVPlayz96 as the other comment mentioned, you’re only using the key which you literally copy and paste. You can install a clean version of windows without having to activate it yet. He literally demonstrated it in the video.
It's definitely an interesting choice by the game devs. It looks like they decided to go pedal to the metal with graphics quality of the highest options, with future GPUs in mind. Current and older GPUs will have to lower those settings to achieve good performance. However, I can't say that they've cut out a lot of customers. I've started playing Alan Wake 2 using an RTX 4070 SUPER at 4K, High preset, no Ray Tracing, DLSS Balanced, Frame Gen ON. And I had a good time. The RTX 4090 simply took it to the next level by allowing me to use Ray Tracing and max out every graphics setting. The next generation of graphics cards will open this experience to a wider audience. Are they future-proofing their game? It does look stunning. There's nothing else like it out there right now.
It looks better than cyberpunk imo. When devs are making a game that is the next level of most demanding games out there.. it only makes sense to allow for settings that will chug even on the fastest GPU.. otherwise you're leaving fidelity on the table. This game is not unoptimized in my experience... It's just that beautiful. There will always(should always) be games that bring the fastest GPUs to it's knees so that people that can afford those GPUs have the options to push the envelope of graphics fidelity. It's the reason you buy that type of GPU.
Game developers do not necessarily make games for current gen hardware. Games like Cyberpunk are made years in advance when it comes to features and respectable technology that can power all those features within the game. Example is path tracing. So just because CP2077 was released by the end of 2020 does not mean that hardware from 2020 (or 2021 or 2022 or 2023) can power it to its fullest potential.
And last i heard, the sales of this game wasn't as expected, makes sense when you think most people are still on 3060 tier of graphics card, and this game preset scaling isn't really good with lowest setting still need decent hardware to run, and even if you can run it at low, it doesn't look as good since the game mechanics is developed around RT, like broken reflections and mirror, bad shadow casting, and poor quality ssr.
I could make a game that could destroy a 4090 at any resolution. It could destroy a 5090, a 6090, a 7090 and even a 9090ti Super Pro Max. And the last of those won’t be out for at least 10 years. It’s really easy. I could create this game in something like Unity or Godot inside one short afternoon. I would call it “The Battle Against Optimisation”

It’s not quite at hot at integrating though at the moment. Both have their place. My point being it’s very very easy to write bad code that will reduce performance to a crawl. you might not be able to run it at ultra but most of the time these additional visual settings you can't even appreciate. Very high and ultra sometimes are barely noticable side by side on many games you sacrifice very little visual fidelity. Running very high settings instead gives a chance for longer 60fps gaming at high resolutions as the years go by. To be honest mining ruined everything, the retail graphics cards are now a generation behind, the popular affordable standard for the average pc gamer should be an rtx 3080 level card not the rtx 3060.
@@Metalwrath2 Then you need to wait longer or waste your money now. Hair enabled and Ray Tracing on means the rtx4090 barely manages 40 - 50fps on the demanding games. For example take Cyberpunk: 4K RT MAX Psycho settings you get a measley 30-35fps from the rtx 4090 which I doubt you would be happy with. Those days of flagship gfx cards delivering BIG! ended in the gtx 1080/ti era.

It should mean actually finished extremely well made games hence the budgets. Outside of that I think the games arnt th issue. We are hitting a point of little returns in graphics and engines and overall fidelity. 1080p is perfect for gaming. It works if your close to your screen 2 to 5 feet. 4k is if your sitting 10 feet away on a couch and more so for movies. The fact almost every generation the top gpus that comes out has issues running games at 4k max settings certainly not 100% of games at the time should be a indicator. I think we as pc gamers shoot ourselfs in th foot for numbers and to say we can when we don't even need that mess esp when at the end of the day beyond emulation some of these folks only play League of Legends or Fortnite. NorthLight is a very impressive engine and we need to remember how much stress is being put under the GPU, it’s being asked to do full PathTracing, RayTracing, everything else on Ultra and all at native 4K, and imo, just above 30FPS makes sense to me, cause this game is very VERY demanding.

With dlls and frame generation 4090 is solid 4K driver already, but with new titles will loose that, like all cards do even 5090 will one day hide in shadow
Depends on the game. If you expect to play all games, then 1440p would be more adequate but if you already have few games in mind then don't hesitate for 4K, might be doable. Same goes to 3080, previously known for 4K card but nowadays people just use it for 1440p gaming and in some games that are proven doable, 4K is still a thing on that card.

The game remains looking good on lower settings and runs at a very high frame rate. In my experience, that forest patch is as demanding as the forest area you are talking about. It's a good representation of what one should expect.🙂 But indeed, there are scenes that are even more demanding. However, they are rare.
@@lenoirx cyberpunk has way more stuff in that game like tons of game mechanics, npc ai, different systems within the world that needs to run all at the same time. a lot more than this game has yet this game runs like ass with the best hardware. I remember back when The Witcher 2 game on PC was acclaimed by some gamers that its a game that is made for future PC graphics cards lol but in reality only setting that made it require future tech was the stupid upscaling called Uber Sample which makes the game run in 8K when you max out the upscaling. Its just an artificial game settings that puts more load on the GPU for no reason other than to tank performance on purpose. Even now with 4090 that game on Uber Sampling runs like ass too cuz the game engine isn't good enough to fully utilize future hardware anyways.

Are you thinking about upgrading to the RTX 5090 when that'll launch later this year? From my many years of experience: There's always one or two games that are ahead of their time when it comes to graphics quality. But then 1-3 years later new AAA games launch with the same system requirements. That's how progress happens. Hardware becomes outdated fast. We've seen similar situations with Red Dead Redemption 2, Control, Cyberpunk 2077. It almost feels like these games have been built with future GPU generations in mind while still allowing current-gen GPUs to play using Medium or High settings.

I'll most likely get the 5090. I hate to spend the money but gaming is my hobby and high framerates in games give me enjoyment.

That´s also why NVIDIA throws in RTX cores, DLSS etc. in their GPUs rather than increasing brute performance, because it´s cheaper, mostly software and can be paired with new ´demanding` (Unoptimized games) for more sales. @beasthunt I'm not against smart upscaling and frame generation. I just wonder why we aren't using these to easily achieve 4k 240fps or 1440p 480fps. Someone has yet to convince me that ray tracing isn't an overly expensive gimmick that tanks even the RTX4090's performance.

I don`t know why AW2 is so heavy graphically, it's not ugly, but It's not that amazing too, I had seen many games more outstanding than AW2 that doesn`t need that much GPU and features really more impressed.
I think we're entering an era of diminishing returns in games graphics. Most current games look great already. Uplifting graphics quality further is costly but visual benefits are difficult to spot unless you really stop, zoom in and compare everything side by side.
control was so much more thrilling and exciting. i hv played in 2021 wd 3070 FE . now alan wake seems dull even with my rtx 4070 ti super gigabyte eagle oc .
@@CaptainScorpio24 maybe back in the day since control was one of the 1st ray tracing games and everyone was going crazy about the idea of real time realistic reflections/shadows/lights but alan wake 2 is a way better game than control both visually and narrative character models looks way better in alan wake, textures look way better and lightning effects make it immersive to a new level.
my favorite games beside sim racing are still the older ones like Resident Evil 4 (2005), remake, 5 and village, the Metro games (especially the first 2 games), first 2 Bioshock games Fallout 3 and New Vegas and i think many of those games looked absolutely great back in the day. And with mods they still look great and run on every potato PC. While also having insanely fun gameplay
Every single piece is important in a great game. I'd prefer to see game developers improve everything as a package. But I have nothing against games that choose simplicity over complexity. If it's fun then that's all that matters to me.

NEVER use he fps limiter provided by the game because the frametimes are still not smooth. Use RTSS all the time. It’s by far the bar. Makes the frame time graph a perfect straight line.
Minecraft with SEUS PTGI shaders and HQ texture packs with RT enabled, is the ultimate gaming test, NO other games in the world can make a GPU failed like Minecraft would do.

@@lun4ticplayz its sadly not as simple as that. wish it were. wukong runs on UE5 with nanite geometry and tesselation - which streams geometry in per frame / scene and culls the rest out. Miencraft due to teh voxel nature cannot do that to the same degree becasue of how the world is build. can you destroy / change everything in wukong on the fly ? no - thats why - ALOT of static geometry where alot can be pre baked - pre calculated. AW2 for example segments their levels less - due to the use of meshs shaders which, techncially should handle the mesh generation asset loading on the gpu - which they do. this allows for insane poly details - which again are baked to texture in games like wukong. minecraft on 12 chunk sizes also HEVALY relx on free cpu ressoruces to not get a choppy experience. also if you have alot of alpha / semi transparent materials tehgy cannot be properly z-ordered due again the dynamic nature of the game world. what they coud have doen for AW2 would be stick to the old pre baked tech - go down in polycount and the game would look almost the same and run smooth. however this is not the way going forward as pushed by nGreedia - Remedy alsways was on the forefront of tech with their games.
We need to stop enabling lazy coding. Considering that PC cost close to 2k for a mid range gaming rig, one can not be expected to upgrade every 3-4 years to play 100 dollar games.
In med-school, you get taught a fact that an average human has a constant glomerular filtration rate between arterial blood pressure of 90 and almost double of so at 160 because the kidney regulates itself. A logical and universal fact that if changing the input doesn't change the output, then there is another but yet to be known significant input in play. A single frame per second more isn't explainable by going from max raytracing to medium ray tracing, there is some bottlenecking and probably is of software not of hardware.

This game like Black Myth Wukong, are using software based ray tracing settings that can't be turned off, its baked into the game itself. So thats why even when you turn off ray tracing in graphics settings, you still losing a ton of frame rate due to software RT still being turned on by default.

thats it there is no other point to be so demanding , especially there are games out there which look incredible and you dont need high end hardware to enjoy them. For me artstyle is more pleasing than any AAA hyperrealistic boring Ray Tracing graphics.
@@Scott99259 sweet. I'd give it around the same so far (~6 hours played). I love games in this universe created by Remedy studio. Absolutely loved Control. That one was 10/10 for me. Action was much better than in Alan Wake (so far). Even though both games are from the same universe.
Sadly though the broken reflections and poor shadows/ssr quality just breaks the immersion, probably best played on high end system, not recommend on toaster like me pc...

DO NOT ANYONE DO FUCKING NOT Lock your fps to 60 when using DLSS-FG. that makes the game render at 30fps with fake frames added to achieve 60. no matter what game you do that in it will feel like SHIT. even when using a controller which 99 percent dont on pc. with a mouse it feels horrible. you need atleast 60 NATIVE frames per second to us FG. i personally only use it when i have atleast 75 and only in single player games. dont use it at all in multiplayer if you want to have somewhat of a chance against gen z and there gfuel habit.

The game isn't "next level graphics", its just "next level unoptimization". There are better looking games with better fps on a 4060. Don't promote a heavy game as a good looking game. These two things are not related and never will be. A game doesn't need to be heavy to have great looking graphics. I hope people understand this one day.
I'd have to disagree on this one, this game has ridiculous path tracing tech that is super taxing on the GPU compared to traditional ray tracing. I've seen far worse games released that were uniptimized but this wasn't one of them. This game was a triumph for the budget they had to make it with.
the thing is, to me this game does not even look that impressive... I am sure if you'd play it in person and started to pixel peep than maybe it would be. But over-all image is not that impressive. Not any more impressive than some older games... Which tells a lot about devs not caring about gamers at all...

We needed SLI support for the RTX 4090, at least. Since RTX A6000 does have SLI support for up to 4 GPUs. However, SLI wouldn't work if the devs didn't specifically added in SLI support
i love how calm bro is and also try minecraft u cant even get 120 fps on 1080p with max settings with optifine internal shader enabled that is bc minecraft is poorly optimized just like alan awake 2 ik ik u can still get above 120 fps in minecraft but just try walking around it will countinuesly stutter it feels like input lag even tho frames are locked or are on vsync some ppl say its the ram but thats cap i litteraly tried running it on 120 fps then frames dropped to 110 or lower then i used 60 fps and its the same thing 50 or lower when sprinting this is ridiculous i hate it when companys only work on the game and dont care if its not optimized id say we should get the performance we payed for and not this sh*t
Maybe I will try Minecraft one of these days🙂 I'm still playing through HADES 2, Horizon Forbidden West, and Alan Wake 2 is also on this list. There are too many good games and not that much free time to enjoy them all🫡
Minecraft needs a really high IPC CPU for it to run well. That is why people made a mod so minecraft will use GPU more or should I say make minecraft more biased towards GPU than CPU in order to make it run better. But I think if you used a AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D your minecraft game will run way better and smoother as that CPU has the highest IPC currently, which games like minecraft, mmorpg, and simulator games love due to its 90MB L3 cache.
Cyberpunk showed us that a game only neads to be optimized and that the GPUs are not the problem. I run Cyberpunk with Pathtracing in 1440p Ultra on an 4060TI easy with around 70-90 fps by using all the stuff nvidia gives us.
That 4060 Ti performance sounds unreal to me. Are you using DLSS Ultra Performance to achieve that FPS with those settings? Because I know I couldn't achieve something like that even using DLSS Quality at 1440p on my 4070 SUPER.
With the 4060ti i use 1440p, everything maxed out, path tracing on, framegeneration on and DLSS on performance mode BUT hear me out: what most people dont know is that dlss performance on 1440p looks twice as sharp as 1080p DLSS Quality and you nedd less Vram then on 1080p! The performance setting with dlss sharpening on maximum is close to the image you get with quality/balanced in this game cyberpunk. Believe me, it is no problem for the 4060ti and i even own a regular 4060 too. It handels the same stuff as long as you stick wirth psycho raytracing. You get Arrondissement 60-75 fps with this card in most Szenarios but regular 4060 cant handle pathtracing. Even the own cyberpunk benchmark shows average fps of exact 60 fps with the 4060. I did a little overclock on the regular 4060 with +185 on core clock and 500 on memory. Lots if people do not believe me and thats why i am going to upload in the next two days a short Videoon my chanel where i will proof it. So check put my chanel later. @@theivadim
It's frustrating to me that so many people don't get why this happens. It's very clear that the best GPU hardly performs at max settings, because the max settings are not made for now. They are made for the future when GPUs are more powerful. This future proofs the game. You won't appreciate it now, but you will in the future.

So these games are far from being unoptimized, in fact they are optimized to the best of their capabilities for nvidia hardware. Turn off path tracing at 4k, and what happens?..so that goes to show that path tracing is too demanding, even for a $2000 nvidia GPU. Turn off path tracing or go down resolutions and live your life. Path tracing natively is rubbish on all GPUs. Don't get robbed, and stop crying. Only Nvidia Fanboys are crying, because they overspend just to have subpar Path tracing experiences.
The keypoint is this - DO NOT use ultra settings all the time! Some games have extremely demanding ultra settings with insane high ray counts or volumetric fog volume, or particle density which isn't really necessary to have the 'most immersive experience'. Those ultra settings are for future proofing or for taking screenshots but not really to have a smooth gameplay experience. You will be happy with high settings in most games and you get diminishing visual returns after that point. Hell with my mid range rtx 3060, I even prefer to put everything on medium in demanding titles and enjoy a smoother 120 fps gameplay than more eye candy
My 4090 with dlls and frame generation in all top shelf 2024 games with RT do stable high frames, most of them 120, I do not try this game but CP2077 4k Patchtracing ultra 80 frames, Starfield 120, Forbiden west 120 and more, I dont thing that they did game for next gen bc why if they sell it today, this is nonsense. Only thing that coming to my mind is they fuck up optimalisation and thats it.
Yeah, this is normal. The graphics only getting heavier. Soon, path tracing is not about visible light only. It'll be for audio, infrared, gamma ray, x ray etc. Not to mention physics. Even if you have 1 billion RTX 4090 combined, the graphic won't be satisfied. Resolution matters too.
A 40 serie is not future proof and was only released for mining. The 50 series, which is coming soon, will be interesting and worth buying, just like the old GTX970, with which you can still play all the really good games.

This is clearly an optimization issue, most games are supposed to passively render polygons into more detail as u get closer to them or zoom zoom into them, I’m pretty sure they just cranked up the polygon count to max in this game and didn’t do anything after that.
This game looks good enough at medium settings with RT off that the low performance is really only an issue for those who have a compulsive need to push it... just optimize your settings and you should be fine. It's cool to see them future-proof by allowing the game's visuals to improve with better hardware.
Your RTX 4090 is beast GPU even for 4K. Alan Wake 2 is good game but also newest benchmark for GPU testing. You should try Doom Eternal, Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima. These games look great, play great and show true power of your RTX 4090. Besides many games now are still bad console ports.
Lets be honest , Alan Wake 2 is not graphically impressive. The game is clearly unoptimized , this is a common problem with modern games that needs to be fixed... i blame lazy devs
To be fair, the fact that you can't turn off DLAA takes a major hit in fps. If you were able to completely take out the native resolution AI processing besides frame generation , I guarantee you'll gain much higher fps results. DLAA is the best when it comes to Anti-Aliasing visually but sadly I don't think I see another option that is way less taxing in this game like FXAA + TAA, for example. DLAA is what's holding this game back as a "default" setting but in reality it's just the "ultra setting", subjectively, for Anti-Aliasing, which takes a major hit in comparison to just removing AI completely. You can test this out in Forza Horizon 5, for example. DLAA, as a non-upscaler for resolution, and, focuses purely on polygon edge upscaling for great Anti-Aliasing is better than MSAA visually and efficiently, in exchange for fps. Hope this makes sense, just my opinion. I'm currently running on a 4080 Super, testing this theory out in other games. In simple terms DLAA results in less fps vs having no AI at all. Sorry if I sound repetitive. Trying to explain this the best I can.
I've noticed that performance difference in some games. But then there is little to no performance difference DLAA vs TAA in others (like Horizon Forbidden West). It's an interesting topic and I'll continue gathering data to maybe make a video on it in the future.
With comparisons with other games the fps is alot higher on well known games such as Cyberpunk 2077 doing a very fair amount of fps for Rtx 4080 alone and 4090 just goes crazy
lets all be honest, who needs Ray tracing or 24k textures, can we just make games that performs good and looks decent? there are a lot of games that do this and i cant imagine playing games like this one in such low frames and stutters
I honestly think this game looks about the same as a game from 10 years ago. But it's just horribly optimized to need an absolute shitton of computing power.
Y'all. This game is a graphical showcase. Of course it makes systems lag. Turn your damn settings down a little. Not everything needs to be at ultra settings smh
If I had this card. I would run this game exactly the way you have it. 4K, DLSS Quality, FG, Max Settings, Frame Limit: 60 FPS. This game doesn't need 120, 144. 165 FPS and ppl actling it like it does are delusional. This is a Cinematic, Slow paced, Immersion based game. Smooth 60 FPS is more than enough especially with the Graphics being so Demanding.
Honestly this is just a really good wake up call to abandon modern AAA titles and go back to whatever can be run on sane and reasonably priced hardware, like older games and AAA. Most of us have a backlog that can last us actual years anyway.

I'd say that games are missing a crucial part of their development nowadays: Optimization. Sure, some games look highly next gen and all, but there are games that look beautiful without being highly demanding, like uncharted 4 or Mirror's edge Catalyst. Luckily, I think all of this will end once the developers open their eyes to see that realism isn't everything, and you should have a less graphically demanding game to allow access to a wider range of gamers.

I'm gonna be honest if you're gonna pick a "most demanding game", then either pick an actually good looking and optimized game whose power requirements come from actual visuals, OR hop onto unreal engine and just place objects and particles until the gpu tanks to 2 fps for an ACTUAL "most demanding" experience
nah, that's just the developers at this point, they didn't know how to optimize the game. The 4090 can do great at 1440p and decent at 4k on modern titles.
I struggle with AW2 on 1440p let alone bringing it down to 1080p on my 3080 The devs know this is a game optimization issue but the updates have massively helped in reality.
Been there, done that. It's not all that it's cracked up to be. A high end PC won't magically make mediocre games more fun. Looking back, the most fun I ever had gaming was back in the PS2 splitcreen days. (Yes, I am old.) Save your money. If you're having fun, that's all that matters.
Technically, if 1% of the frames drops to 35, we can say with confidence that the 4090 is a good graphics card for 30 fps gaming at 1080p resolution. Congratulations to all lucky owners of this technological miracle in 2024 and with great games or not so great as we expected.
It's funny how all of the comments keep saying how unoptimized the game is when you have path tracing on. Even on the 4090 RT and PT can be extremely demanding. AW2 has excellent RT effects. You should show the 4090 running CP2077 as it can't hit 60 FPS at 4K ultra with RT on let alone PT.
The game ran fine for me on a 4070ti. The only issue was, i believe, when i changed the render-resolution, no matter if up or down, the game startet running like shit, until i restarted it, then it was fine again.
Today's the same. A single frame takes a long time to render if they use a lot of path traces. Current generation GPU even the best one like RTX 5090 cannot produces high resolution ray tracing image without lagged very much.
Also if we talking about enthusiast setup like this, I must say oled monitor is a must. I have one. I will never go back again. It makes games lot brighter, smother. For general use it's not necessarily.
There never was a 1440p card in existence. 1080p144hz is a logical step forward after 1080p60hz. There never was a card that was capable of running most games at 1080p144hz.
The RTX 4090 is generally a great Native 1440p GPU, most seem to think 4K but even older / current games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Control, Remnant II, etc. are "optimal" at Native 1440p on a Native 1440p Display. So what so you think is going to be the case going forward with even more demanding games running UE5, etc? Many don't want to hear this probably because they bought into the 4K hype and purchased a 4K display but it is what it is. I'd take Native 1440p / 90 FPS + over 4K / ~ 60 FPS every time regardless.
