It would help if the big media actually criticize Gregg directly. Didn't name drop Gregg once in this video, instead they just said the "champions league" players need to play like champions league players. Gregg doesn't set up the team to win. His system is stupid; plain and simple.

Saudi Arabia has been on top of four out of six qualifications (1998, 2002, 2006 and 2022), and all three previous World Cup where they topped in Asia, Saudi Arabia went on finishing bottom in its group stage of World Cup. The problem with USA is that they played friendlies against two teams that have been literally hopeless in the upcoming World Cup. Japan might sound superior, but with their group stage draw, any chance for Japan to overcome Germany or Spain is entirely zero (they can beat Costa Rica however). Saudi Arabia is even an even worse position as they have been pitted against Poland, Argentina and Mexico, and neither of these teams produced any nice results for the Kingdom. Note that Saudi Arabia's first game will be against Argentina. And yet the USMNT has, instead, provided these teams relief rather than sending a clear message about its growing strength. But I guess this is due to how Americans treat this sport. As long as there is no promotion-relegation, the USMNT will stay stagnated to what it has stood for.
@kmalek4018
@kmalek4018 Год назад
We were only prepping for Iran these past 2 games. I think we played Japan and SArabia in efforts to get help on how to best play Iran. Japan and the Saudi’s played Iran many times and understand them better than other teams. Asia gets little exposure in the world stage other than World Cup. The US was trying to understand their enemy. And the US want payback from the bend over beat down they took from Iran losing 1-2 back in the 98’ World Cup. But sure doesn’t look good for USMNT at the moment. Wales played Belgium closely as well as the Netherlands and look a lot better than us. And I’m not sleeping on Iran either. They just beat Uruguay 1-0. Figure England beats everyone. US going 0-3 or 0-2-1 wouldn’t surprise me at this point in the game. Alas I pray and hope we can fine a way and pull off what feels like a miracle. Advance!!! Besides that England lost to Hungary 1-0 and again lost to Hungary 4-0 in addition to their loss to Italy 1-0 and the tie with Germany. To me this group is basically up in the air. Anything could and will happen in Group B.

How can anyone see the evolution of the side over the last 25 years and suggest they 'stagnated'? From even the early 2000's, when Joe Max Moore was at Everton and benched when they had an injury crisis for a defender at forward, to today, where they have players regularly playing and commanding high fees. From when the players needed more trials before being fees. The talent has most certainly improved. They are not 'World Beaters' or truly elite, but they do have good talent. Promotion/Relegation... it is what it is for the market in the US. But the best of the US largely aren't even in MLS. Where the US gets in trouble, IMHO, is the depth isn't as good as maybe some fans think it is. The mentality isn't anywhere near what it needs to be and if I'm being honest, the mentality isn't as good as the older era of McBride, Mathis, Dempsey, Mastroeni, etc. And finally... this one jarring statistic... MLS was poor 25 years ago and today is a decent league (not at the highest level but decent enough). Berhalter - the manager - clearly has a thing for MLS and his favorites there. However, there has not been an American golden boot winner in it's own domestic league in 10 years - going on more. While he isn't leading the Bundesliga, he is producing for a side that is top of the table... and the manager doesn't rate him enough to call him in, instead opting for MLS talent and struggling talent. I don't mind the opposition - with the Nations League in Europe that limits options a bit. But the US have some issues and I really do believe they will be tactically exposed in the World Cup.

The problem with Team USA is they have no foundation, they have the talent but don’t know who to call up to play internationally and those that do aren’t ready for international play, while at the opposite end you have Mexico who have the foundation but don’t call the right talent they still rely on dudes who can’t even stay in form like Herrera and yet they choose him over Carlos Vela. And there’s Canada who use the formula that Mexico had during the qualifiers in 2018 and went undefeated and now they’re the real threat in Concacaf until Mexico sacks Tata and go back to their old formula of young and semi young players and only two veteran players.

Any frank response has not admitted one thing: football, or soccer, is still a new sport in the USA. Though it has become stronger than previous meetings, the USA is still not passionate enough to support such a sport they deemed "boring". Before blaming Gregg Berhalter, blame your failure to produce passion first.
@SM-McKraken
@SM-McKraken Год назад
How old are you? Soccer has been in the US for decades and decades and decades. I saw Pele play with the NY Cosmos vs Washington (DC) Diplomats back in the '70s! Yes, it's true it's not our most popular sport, but it's fast catching up to exceptionally boring baseball (the stand around, scratching 'n' spitting sport), and the US talent pool has grown. Football is growing in the US, especially the women's game. Especially given that the talent level in the US WSL is pretty much on par, if not better, than the men's game. The women's games here draw bigger crowds than they WSL games played in England. Our fanbase is expanding yearly and our passion is far greater than you think. The country and it's fans aren't the ones on the pitch. The players and the manager, are the only ones to blame here. No amount of passion is going to make mediocre players (some, not all are mediocre), chosen on the teamsheet by a mediocre manager, play up to an exceptional level. The skill, talent and inner drive has to be in place within the squad, and the manager has to have a solid system in place that plays to the strength of the players he chooses in his 11. There's a reason more American products are playing overseas in bigger tougher more skilled leagues. Our talent pool has grown and is getting better. Our academy system is growing each year, which is important to grow this sport. The REAL problem with American football is it was called soccer, and not taken seriously by it's own governing body, and so the talent growth was stymied, relying on high schools, colleges and private programs only the rich could afford to send their kids to. But now, with football academies popping up and growing all over the country, we can finally start to grow this sport properly and with the long-term in mind.

He needs minute playing. He is like coming off the bench and that isn't helping him. Maybe he should look for a smaller club to get more minutes. He was much better off staying Germany instead of EPL.

MLS players are at the end of the chamionship, therefore they are overplayed & tiredِ. This world cup would be challenging because they do not have fresh legs

The USMNT could have Zidane as coach and they'd still be rubbish. Coaching alone doesn't lead a team to victory; it also takes talented players to score. They don't stand a chance at reaching far in the WC and it won't be that much of a shock or disappointment because they already expected themselves to be struggling at group stage.

I have to disagree, in part. The US has more players playing over seas in better leagues than ever before. The talent is there (tho maybe not enough to go on a long run in the WC, but at least to get into the opening stages), but the system Berhalter is using isn't playing to his team's strengths, and this is where a superior manager could have this team over-achieving, instead of the underachievment they're currently producing. I question Gregg's team selection and his system, and imho, it looks to me like his squad are questioning it too, on the pitch.

You science fiction book thumpers have been saying "He's coming back soon" since the beginning of Christianity! I don't think JC got the text that he's been expected back for thousands of years. You'd think a deity could be more punctual... How about YOU repent, and stop proselytizing where you have no business doing so and it is very much not wanted. Reported for spam.
