This is the 359th entry of the "Ruby, My Year" project (see channel description below). Today's one-pass rendition starts with a brief scribble of improvisation. Some fairly well executed embellishments throughout, but a lack of warmup time makes this performance seem a bit rushed without a lag between recording and relisten. Perhaps that feeling will dissipate with time...perhaps not.
Today's imagery is of a dimensional sphere, painted by Victor Vasarely ("Vega-Vizi" 1979)

CHANNEL/PLAYLIST DESCRIPTION: I'm Edward "Ted" Spies and I've been playing music, primarily on keyboard-based instruments, for most of my life. I started a project I'm calling "Ruby, My Year" on August 13, 2023. For each day of the next year, I will record & post a version of Thelonious Monk's song "Ruby, My Dear".
I originally learned a version of the composition about 25 years ago when I was first introduced to Monk's music, but had forgotten the tune in the intervening years prior to beginning this project. My hope is that the "Ruby, My Year" project will offer an interesting view of how a piece of music evolves over the course of time as a performer learns, internalizes, and ultimately personalizes a composition.
Unless otherwise noted, all sounds produced & recorded by me in my little home studio and all visuals generated by DALL-E.
