This is just what I needed! I have this awful habit of buying stones, setting them down, then coming across them in a month having no clue what they are! 😅 Great info and clear explanations and comparisons. Thank you so much! 💜

Awesome info! I was able to identify my pieces as ruby, but I’m still unsure of the inclusions present. My ruby is opaque and has these tiny red spots(very small) and a few tiny green thin crystals. Any ideas what they could be? The green ones seem to have grown in the ruby, very tiny but skinny, almost tourmaline like, and olive green. The red inclusions are also on the surface, deep almost black red in color. Not sure if garnet and tourmaline can form in corundum but if it could be something else I’d love to know! One piece has one of the green inclusions visible on the end of the tumbled stone and it makes the ruby look very unique even if it’s a tiny spot!

Very intersting vidéo ! Can the ruby have small crystals that shine? I would like to know, does the magnet react to raw ruby?

Rubies contain a body color of mainly red with maybe secondary hues of pink and purple. There is a distinct difference. Pink sapphires are indeed pink sapphires.

Really good information. But only applies to rough stones. When faceted, the only way to tell is under a microscope or lab tests. Even too trained gemologists have a hard time with them when they’re faceted.

If corrundum has more red it's ruby if it has more pink then it is a pink sapphire seller's push it being a ruby rubies sell for more buyer's push for pink sapphire so they pay less but the GIE GIA and AGI have actual color cards that give a standard if ruby or pink sapphire but none of the three major gem schools or certification laboratories between them have the same lines of color or a standard they agree on personally I would go by the GIE or AGI since they deal with more colored stones GIA is primarily diamonds don't have the same scale of color to use so it really is a game of buying and selling sapphire or ruby unless it's distinct red with dark spots or a true pink but if it looks more pink generally it's a pink sapphire if it's more red it's a ruby

Natural and synthetic rubies can be fluorescent? So that long pink/red Rubie looks like a piece of candy 😹 is it real or synthetic?? I've got a bad full and I'm trying too find out if they're natural as Google only says Rubie's come in a flat form 🤔🙄

Pinks are actually Sapphires, as well, rubies are actually one color of corundum. It is a purplish blood red color, everything else is Sapphire.

Pink corundum is Ruby everywhere else in the world. In USA 'pink' corundum is sapphire; It really IS Ruby.

My red rock type crystal just scratched the mess outta my quartz, so would that mean its ruby?
@YeOldeRockShop
@YeOldeRockShop 2 года назад
Possible, when identifying minerals and crystals you want to use multiple forms of identification. So using the hardness test and looking at the crystal structure is one option or using the specific gravity.
@Crown987
@Crown987 2 года назад
@@YeOldeRockShop specific gravity meaning...?
@YeOldeRockShop
@YeOldeRockShop 2 года назад
@@Crown987 Specific Gravity is the difference in weight of an object between its dry weight and the its weight suspended in water. So for instance quartz's specific gravity is 2.65 vs ruby which is 4. You can also send a picture of your ruby to info@jacobstrading.ca and I can take a look at it as well.
