What a splendid producten of one of my most favoriete G and S opera's I miss the old D'Olly Carte... ...I saw their Ruddigore....with John Reed, kenneth Sandfood.....They were well to old for their parts . But the fun they brought to them.....oh those were the days......keep up the good work ...
Everyone connected with this production should be congratulated, what a joy. It is just such a shame that the quality of the recording cannot be improved. Thank you for sharing.
This is by far my favorite G&S operetta. The storyline is so absurd that I love it. The Ohio State University summer theatre did a production of it years ago. I did the follow stop for the show. Our Mad Margaret was so "whack-a-doodle"; I loved her. My favorite songs are "When the Night Wind Howls" and "There Grew a Little Flower". That love song between Hannah and Sir Roderick is so sweet.
You still remember this 'Ruddigore' of almost thirty years ago ... ? I can't tell you how pleased I am - not only that you enjoyed the show - but the fact that the memory of that night is still alive. Thank for letting me - and everyone in that production - know. It was such a very happy time for all of us!
I was there in June 1988. This was the first G&S I had ever seen live in the theatre, although I knew many of the operas from recordings. I love every note of Ruddigore and this production and performance did it justice it seldom sees. Certainly not in these failing days .... Sing hey, lack-a-day!
I've been a Gilbert & Sullivan fan since I was 10, but I had never heard 'Ruddigore" in its full score before, or seen it performed. My favorite song is the one that goes, near the end, "But It Reallly Doesn't Matter, Matter, Matter," etc. And the encores were hilarious. Thanks, Mr Burrows!
Very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this performance. There are lots of G&S performances out there on RU-vid, and a lot of them don’t hold up very well and come across as amateurish. This, however, is a real hidden gem of a performance!
So delightful. I was in the chorus of Ruddigore during my last year at high school (Tawa College, near Wellington, New Zealand). This was in 1964 when the school was still quite new as it had only opened in 1961. Seeing this certainly brought back memories of the one I was in. I later joined the Wellington Gilbert & Sullivan Society and. another light opera group around 1990 and was in a number of shows with both.
This is pretty good, and thanks for resurrecting it. Nice to see Sandra Dugdale again, too, who was one of the finest soubrette sopranos in Britain at the time, not only in G&S but heavier roles like Aenchen in Freischutz. Her hilarious Patience is featured on the Brent Walker video.
Thank you for your kind remarks. I'm so glad you enjoyed this performance. It was produced 27 years ago. So it's pretty wonderful to hear from people who are still enjoying it - even though, I have to admit, the recording quality may leave something to be desired!
@@JohnSBurrows a comb filter is a sort of electronic moire' effect that cancels out certain frequencies like the teeth of a comb. But you want a similar but lesser arrangement that reduces 60, 120, 180 Hz in diminishing amounts. Here's a quick and clear demo of how it can be done using some commercial Adobe software. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KmUSFFY74EQ.html And here is some info on doing something similar with free software: www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/reduce-background-noise-on-windows-10/ manual.audacityteam.org/man/noise_reduction.html
@@JohnSBurrows What a great version this is, despite its fuzziness. Can you tell me who choreographed it? Our community theatre was set to do Ruddigore in May this year, but it got cancelled due to lockdowns. Now we're just doing a few video clips to share, but our choreographer is no longer available. We thought it would be fun to see if we could figure out and copy the choreography from the Patter song in this version, but we wanted to be respectful and credit this version and the choreographer.
Excellent....how it should be.....if it should ever be produced again.....hey ho.....and lack a day... .but brilliantly produced...all the ham that Gilbert wanted.. sir Henry Irving......eat your heart out!!!!!!
This is FANTASTIC!!! Despite the quality, it is a really fine production and the set is spectacular, very much like the original 1887 production in London. There is a brilliant moment at 39.43 which recreates a photo of the original cast (Jessie Bond, Durward Lely, Rutland Barrington) in an 1887 photo, in the same pose, great to see how it might have looked back then. And the original finale, Brilliant to see and hear this!!! Congrats to all involved and thanks for posting!
The video quality perhaps leaves something to be desired, but I hope everyone can see (and hear) that this is a very fine performance. I enjoyed it immensely. Bravissimo to all.
Wanting to finally discover Ruddigore, I came here with low expectations, but this was marvelous! The captions were extremely helpful. Thank you so much for making this available, it made my day even thirty years later. (and impressive as I found the whole cast, that Eric Johnson guy, WOW, what a voice!)
A brilliant production and thank you for posting - I thoroughly enjoyed it. An American presentation with faultless English accents and one which captured the humour of Gilbert and Sullivan!! The audience seemed to much appreciate it too. Any more in the offing?
I'm in the chorus for an upcoming production of Ruddigore, and I was showing your "When the Night Wind Howls" rendition to our director last night. I really like the blocking and choreography you folks used there. One of the better ones! I wish I could see it in a better copy of the video, but I guess none exists, hmm?
