because he wins DPOY by sitting in the paint stat padding against bad teams but once the playoffs hit you can’t be lazy defensively and expect it to work. Really bad look for the nba ngl
@@ethanfay6091and the bad part is, we know he's slow on his feet, but he's also not good defending the post. He literally can only defend if he doesn't have to move consistently. If they make him move consistently, he's food.
Rudy Gobert winning Defensive Player of the Year reminds me much of the infamous Maginot Line: the Germans on the offensive just sidestepped their way through the Ardennes forest bypassing this lame French multi-million dollar project. As lame as Gobert's multimillion dollar contract.
@@aironenise Right, it's an effective tactic against drivers who can't shoot, an archetype that was common in the NBA but that's increasingly disappearing. What's annoying is coaches who use drop dogmatically regardless of the opposition. Budenholzer damn near cost the Bucks a title in the ECSF by playing drop against KD of all people. It was maddening.
Finally ppl are seeing this shxt Dude has 4 DPOY FOUR!!!!!! But ppl like Tim AD Bam doesn’t have one, even Draymond only have 1. 3 of the best defenders of this Era combined to have 1 DPOY compared to Rudy 4 ppl who vote for this shxt is ridiculous.
Yep. That's what I've been saying since the campaign for him to win his 4x DPOY began in December. I've been screaming that he cannot guard anyone. What type of defensive player sucks at defense
If we my wasn’t a rookie he would have bagged the award. This league is starting to become a joke. Rookies no matter how good they are ever since 2018 have never been able to get awards because of the coaches decision to keep dem humble🤡
@@jjcometa9333qnd yet when wemby of the floor his team is second to last in defense when he's on the floor they are second in defense in the league if thats not dpoy I dunno what is...what team in the league changes so dramatic defensively when a single player is on and off the floor😂😂😂
Their defense against Denver when Rudy wasn't playing was their best defense. Against the Mavs Rudy. was an even bigger liability As Barkley said the TWolves should have played small against the Mavs
He barely block shots! Rudy is overrated defensively and don’t give me no damn analytics when my eyes tell me otherwise. 2 point difference when he’s on vs off ain’t 💩! MN would have been better off benching Rudy this series…
The sort of group agreement by sports broadcasters that Gobert is a defensive giant, despite years of watching him get torched mercilessly while back pedaling in confusion, is one of the more upsetting unexamined truths of the NBA as a product.
Gobert doesn't have just 1, or 2, or 3 but 4 DPOY awards. Whoever decides dpoy should be questioned. Dude been awful and unplayable in defense during playoffs since he was in Utah.
Bad use of analytics. He does improve the defensive rating from 115 points allowed v 112 points allowed. But factor in shot selection, most teams want to drive against rudy and pull him out of position. That of course is bad shot selection because at 7 feet he will have a mismatch at the post against most players. If teams start abusing iso against him and midrange, I don't think many would call him dpoy. He's a good role player, not a supermax or 4 x dpoy. Switch giannis or kuminga with rudy and wolves would win everything every year for 10 years straight.
Utah jazz warned the NBA about how garbage rudy gobert is in the playoffs.. he cant guard the 3pt.. nor he can guard the pick and roll.. two of the most used methods of attacks by teams in the playoffs... terence mann had a lights out against rudy gobert years ago... Terence Mfuckin mann broo !!!
I hope this guy doesn't have kids. If he does I hope he doesn't coach them lol. I mean they might have good defensive fundamentals but they're going to be enduring a lot of yelling
You mean huge amount as in that 96% of it's population is white? Most European nations are 97-98% white. It's what people pre-1939 constantly said as well when the populations were near 100% white and it's what they said after the second world war and it's what they say today. Racist propaganda honestly is a white tradition at this point. The spooky foreign monster story is told from grandparent to parent to child. Luckily enough white people eventually grow up and put it on the shelve with the other ghost stories.
THANK YOU!!!! he was such a non factor this whole series, rudy basically lost the wolves this series cuz of his pick and roll defense and non existent offense but nobody's says a word
He wasn't just a non factor, he was an outright detriment. Terrible coaching by their staff to not realize and adjust to a smaller lineup in order to attack Luka and Kyrie higher up the court. The Celtics will not make the same mistake...
Absolutely egregious. And for this to take place in the Western Conference Finals. A complete mockery of the prestige of the award and the level of play expected this late in the basketball year. He’s the embodiment of a disgrace. Glad you’re pointing out this shameless display and shed light on the blasphemy this is.
And people actin like he locked up Jokic. Brother he had Kat and reid and anderson and Mcdaniels to swarm him at all times. If anything, Rudy should be ashamed cause they had to have a scheme to stop another big man when hes the DPOY😭😂
i forget what channel i commented on about Gobert but i said what does he do ? i think he held the TimberWolves back ,am not saying they would of won but they were going at him from 1st tip off
I love this video. I’ve been saying for years that he’s OVERRATED as hell. He’s horrible.. People bash me when I say that in comments and they tell me to go learn basketball 😆 Now I can tell them to watch this video 😁 Gobert shouldn’t even be in the league…
He's really gotten glorified to the point that most people think he can do no wrong even against YEARS of evidence of him being a liability on both ends in the playoffs
I played D1…trust me he wouldn’t play if this is what he offered! He’s trash defensively and offensively…watching him play is a mockery. Like how is he making 40 mil/yr??
Between Rudy and Luka getting no MVP consideration, you really have to just accept the silver spoon folks who cover sports for a living have zero clue.
Rudy Gobert's DPOY awards are true North Korea stuff. Media narrative awards to a guy whose sole skill is to guard the rim and taking advantage of the past NBA years, when analytics took over and the mid range disappeared. But that never happened to FIBA basketball and he gets torched once he leaves the paint and/or gets posted up. Luka knows this, Kidd knows this, and that's why they wanted to get him involved out of the paint. Apparently Denver didn't realize this or didn't have any tools to do it besides Jokic posting, which is kinda slow.
Denver was killing Gobert on all levels. The coach just smartened up and kept him off of Jokic, while not doubling Jokic to keep the shooters and slashers covered. Rudy was literally the only big that Minnesota was trying to cover by doubling whenever he was on Jokic. Kat nor Reid were needing double teams, because they were not getting manhandled
Somebody send the link of this video to the Celtics coaching staff immediately XD But seriously, hopefully there won't be blowouts like this in the Finals. We want to watch hard-fought battles, not cakewalk wins!
I have been saying this for years and years. There is a difference between being a good defender and a good rim protector. If you get Rudy anywhere outside of the paint he is 110% useless and somehow got a 200+ million dollar contract to do nothing but get rebounds, block shots, and catch lobs.
This is why Victor should’ve won DPOY but no they have to pay attention to defensive win share and the seeding and the voters they like yeah no he a rookie and his team sucks yet Victor almost had 100 more blocks than Gobert even tho stats don’t always show the full picture but if someone who’s another center who’s played similar minutes to Gobert and plus Victor is doing shit that hardly most players can’t plus was making players second guess rather if they want to even take the shot with him assigned to them like the amount of keep away teams had to employ for their coaching on him is probably the most sense like shaq or some other nba all time center legend who was one crazy shot blocker and every star I’ve seen that Victor has been match up against he’s made it hard for any of them Steph can’t even shoot over him Durant struggles so does Davis and LBJ Jokic Giannis and about every star and the only player who I think who had the best time against Victor was Joel Embiid the freaking MVP who even tho he was not the real 2023 MVP it still took a top 3 mvp voted player to beat this rookie and have success in a 1 on 1 situation match up so yeah Victor was the real DPOY not Gobert
it’s a bad look for the DPOY when he’s unplayable defensively in the playoffs because he can’t just sit in the paint and stat pad like he does in the regular season. Not to mention his horrendous offensive game.
gobert knew his feet is so bad.. and he knew if he try to guard kyrie or luka in a pick and roll.. he'll be put on a blender and his ankles will be taken
Mid game 1 I said Rudy couldn’t play in this series. MN coaches are to blame for not adjusting and starting Reid and Anderson as the 6th man. Rudy wasn’t guarding or protecting💩 the entire series!
Gobert doesn't ice those screens because he knows full well that guys will blow right by him. How do you give DPOY to someone who is a defensive liability away from the basket? All too-often, DPOY is given to the league's best rim protector. As if the rest of what happens on the court doesn't matter defensively. But it very much does, especially in the modern NBA. Which is way the Celtics are trouncing the Mavs in the Finals and the TWolves are playing golf. The fact that Jrue Holiday hasn't won the award is an atrocity.
You can't only look at a handful of playoff games. Look a little bit, yes. Weigh it with other factors. Take your anti-French hate and put it on the back burner for a minute. Gobert's plus/minus is wayyyy in the plus; when he's off the court the other team catches up. Minnesota did great all year against teams that rely heavily on paint production. Now if you wanna talk about his atrocious offense, fine. Do so. I agree. But his D is soooo great that it more than makes up for his terrible O. Overall? Is Gobert worth 40 mil a year? If Desmond Bane is worth 40 mil then Gobert is worth 50 mil.
Kinda agree but he's a double edged sword. In the reg season or some teams in the playoffs will get intimidated with his height and the fact that he's DPOY. But when his team faces a real comp, he's done. All of a sudden they're playing 4v5. So take it how you will, but if I was other teams, I would give Gobert a chance if he was getting paid way less. The fact that he's only effective 90% of the time but that 10% will expose him and make your team lose. Not saying it's always his fault. But at the same time, he's a bigman with no post moves and a decent at best perimeter defense.
when big are in drop coverage i cringe a little inside players are too good i rather actually you zone the whole game than drop so far its literally how you get picked apart
>Shits on Jokic and Gobert, praises Lebron yep, this guy definitevily wants to get a job within the NBA, he is saying everything the NBA and the NBA media want people to say.
