Thank you so much for this! I was feeling really down over the weekend. Came across Lacy J Dalton's song "She Could Run". That started the faucets going. With some differences, it sounded like Ruffian was the inspiration for the song. I found the Ruffian 3-parter on RU-vid about the match race with Foolish Pleasure. I howled for at least an hour, I'm sure. I decided I had to see some of her glory races today. I loved that shot of her jumping over the finish line. Again, thank you sooooo much!
Ruffian the romance of racing . If u watch this video with the song Desert Symphony it makes the video so touching and great. She was built likea bullet. The filly of the century. Ruffian only had speed? Please. Then how come she set records at every distance, even up to a mile an a half? Secretariat's trainer, Lucien Laurin, once said that he thought that Ruffian could be better than Secretariat. During her races her jockey always held her in check until the top of the stretch. Ruffian could get the distance.
