When I wrote these two pieces, I was inspired by the compositional style of Rufus Wainwright, which to my mind tends to be (1) harmonically solid; and (2) not afraid to zig when you might otherwise expect it to zag. I wrote the first one prior to brain surgery, and the second one a month after.
Rufus, if you want to write lyrics for these, be my guest :)
