Croc roll is more dangerous than a high tackle and with a more immediate impact to gain parity/nullify up front imo. Frizell did the same deliberate move in the WCF. Red card + suspension. "The knee reap is a banned judo submission. It’s when you put pressure on the opponents knee, pushing from outside the knee in towards the inside of the knee. It’s essentially a sideways dislocation of the knee, causing quite extensive ligament damage. In bjj context this usually comes in to play with Ashi Garami. Basically if the foot comes over the hip (if you drew a line straight up from the center of their thigh) you’re starting to reap and it’s illegal in most comps. Of course there are other positions that would result in a reap too. But that’s kind of the standard reap position. The original submission is also an ashi garami position."

I'm happy with most calls being 'part of rugby' (bar the scrums) but that Croc roll was something else. Marx back in his third game and a DOUBLE croc roll which could be another year out or a career ending injury. It needs a higher sanction and review. How the refs continue to mess up scrums is baffling. I get we don't get many front rowers as refs, but this needs to be an essential part of refereeing courses

Just a point on the Doris yellow card, Etzebeth holds onto Joe McCarthy for 5-10 seconds, and illegally tackling a player off the ball preventing him clearing the ruck, without that the in iincident would not have happened. Ryan is about 8 yards away and would not be involved in the ruck, he is clearly incensed by this and comes in with force. If the ref had blown against Etzebeth, no yellow card would have taken place, Doris stays on and SA don't get the 9 penalty points.

I watched Nigel Owens whistle watch. He basically said the Doris incident was down to referee interpretation. It was looked at by the TMO and the South African team can lodge a complaint if they feel justified. Rassie has not said anything and has said Ireland deserved to win. We (Ireland ) were probably a bit lucky with this decision but we had terrible luck with the Ref and TMO in the first test which could have affected the outcome of that game. Sorry for Marx, I hope he makes a quick recovery.

The Kwagga Smith knock on was probably a knock on. Ref was standing right in front of it. Camera angle doesn't show any hands in the ruck (speculation).
@tasanalytics
@tasanalytics Месяц назад
I don't buy that. The TMO is sitting with the perfect angles to check if it's a knock or not. Judging by how Doris's hand is the only hand anywhere near the ball, I would bet money that he knocked it back. Kwagga was in full control throughout the tackle, and as he placed it, it randomly shoots out like that. Kwagga is not someone who complain at the ref, yet he did it multiple times for that. It at least warants a check, because as I stated in the video, if it was indeed the hand of Doris, it's a clear yellow card as he did it a couple of meters from the tryline as SA was on the attack.

Instead on the very same platform accuse the same guy for complaining when SA loses. The very same thing they were doing last week. Most SA rugby fans would be complaining to the SA team for not showing up on Saturday and perhaps question the wisdom of playing the same side after a taxing match the previous week. Yet TMO see this 24m away at game speed amongst 10 players in close proximity, and I can't see it on rewind . No Ref is perfect , that's fine , just want consistency on actions and timings . The four or five players should be in the Irish Guards, their alignment and dressing was perfect. Their diving and flopping in and on the mauls is not in the spirit of the game either. Finally, if they don't like being tackled, they should stick (pun intended) to Shinty.

Great insights. Not easy to be a Ref/TMO but still. On balance, taking both tests into account SA defo got their share of 'home' decisions. The Ref/TMO was particularly bad last week (Lowe x 2 and missing Doris try). That said this week the 'Croc Roll' not something you ever want to see, horrifficly dangerous. Never seen 2 players been sent off for one incident, but both foul play, so why not? Kill the game, maybe. Finally the Kolbe's was no 'fall' that cynical 'soccer dive' lost him a lot of respect, trying to get the drop goal reversed. Pity that. Leaving ALL that aside Breathtaking. Amazing for Rugby. SA have very passionate supporters and Ireland too - a privilege to watch these games. Ones for the Ages.

@@tasanalytics Rule 15(2) "A ruck is formed when at least one player from each team are in contact, on their feet and over the ball which is on the ground." www.world.rugby/the-game/laws/law/15 A ruck had been formed when Ox joined and made contact. Once it is formed it doesn't matter if they go off their feet after - at a lot of rucks pretty much all the players are off their feet but because the players have made contact and made it a ruck, the defenders cant play the scrumhalf at a ruck. Marx was the tackled player so he is allowed to place it. He never let it go while the ruck was being cleared by RG. When the Irish 2 had a go at it, because nobody was over the ball the ball was out of the ruck (nobody was "over the ball") and both the Irish 2 and the SA scrumhalf can have a go at it - which they did at the same time.

The game became chaotic and so many laws broken because of Dicksons inconsistencies. Examples being the brake foot, for both teams, and Big Joe taking the man out beyond the ruck. These weren't just done in the moment. Chances are they noticed in previously plays that their marginal timing was overlooked, and so they push it further
