Same man. I am from India and I got introduced to it by the Rugby 08 video game. I am amongst the handful of Indians who watch the sport and every world cup I watch it alone and scream at my tv screen all by myself. Thankfully, this time I managed to convince 3 of my friends to follow the world cup and guess what, they are hooked now.
To who it may concern, First of all, I'm trying to be more polite as I can because I'm trying to use this to direct a message to the World Rugby. I live in Brazil and we are over 200 million people very passionate about sports, as you can see by soccer. However unfortunately not the same about Rugby yet. So I'm here to make an appeal to you guys from the World Rugby to help people to know Rugby in Brazil and get in love for this amazing sport. What i'm here to ask in simple, could you try add some subtitles in Portuguese to some of your videos, doesn't need to be all of them just a few such as the opening ceremony would be great to start and it will make everyone knows more about rugby kind regards
I was in the stadium watching this video it gave me goosebumps! In the context of the whole atmosphere etc. One of the best moments of my life. To all the guys who said the opening ceremony was average or worse, it definitely was a case of you had to actually be there!
Qui est là grâce à son ou sa prof d'anglais ? (For English people watching this comment, here is my official translation : Who is there thanks to your english teacher ?)
love how they put the "I vow to thee my country" and the Rugby World cup anthem together. From what I recall, the two anthems are both played to the exact tune.
The black man is Serge Betsen, who played in the french national team for 10 years, and for the wasps at the end of his career. Nevertheless, I did not recognize the others...
katryn stewart because he is English and it was the opener for the world rugby cup in England and absolutely Johnny Wilson was near him to English famous people because Johnny plays for England so that is why he is famous and prince Harry too is famous but does not play

This year's 2023 Rugby World Cup in France marks the bicentennial (200 Year Anniversary) of the 'invention' of the sport itself of 'Rugby Union', that it is STILL today by the once young 'William Webb Ellis'! HOW INCREDIBLE IS THAT?! 🏉
Jona a world class rugby player a brilliant All black loved by Newzealand but well respected in Wales A good player and a good man we miss you Jona R I P
Rugby union is among my favorite sports. It's among my favorites because I liked the tackles while trying to score points, 2019 was the first time I got much involved in rugby union 🏉, in India once in 4 years rugby is telecasted (only during men's Rugby union World Cup). Lots of memories created in 2019 World Cup for me. Love from India 🇮🇳
Really well rounded video using a little history and advancing through time to the modern era in a beautifully striking display to really inspire rugby fans and flame their passion of the sport. The only thing I would've liked to have seen added is the ball returning to Earth transforming into the modern Gilbert ball. Other than that this is one awesome video.
Played rugby from the age of 5 up until my late 20s and even had a few games in my 30s I’m 35 now but I’m glad I got to experience the greatest team sport in the world.. so many memories wins and loses emotional times and very happy times so many bonds created with friends playing rugby
Same man. I am also from Kolkata, India and I got introduced to it by the Rugby 08 video game. I am amongst the handful of Indians who watch the sport and every world cup I watch it alone and scream at my tv screen all by myself. Thankfully, this time I managed to convince 3 of my friends to follow the world cup and guess what, they are hooked now. This is the best sport and I have no problem saying it albeit I am a massive football fan (Mohun Bagan).
@@sophiedavis1406 better late than never :) I'm from Mallorca but I did a trip to Coventry a few years ago, and going to visit Rugby was a must do. I had to be in the place where rugby was born by all means. It was worth it! Ps: you still living next to Rugby?
For all of you complaining about the historical inaccuracies due the fact that there are black people in this video, speaking as on of the black actors featured in this video, if you were really annoyed about the historical inaccuracies then you would all be complaining about the fact that William Web Ellis has been portrayed as a member of School House where as original he was a day pupil, a member of Town House; so don't pretend like you really care about the historical accuracy of this video by complaining about how many black people are in this video and how political correctness is ruin history just to cover up you're racist complaints. Thank you. P.S. I am a member of rugby and I enjoyed filming every second of it :)
I know you make a film on the history of rugby and what do people have to bring up the fact there were black people in the video honestly you'd think we haven't evolved at all in the last 200 years
+Babacar Ndoye Well I did not know that William Web Ellis was a member of School House. Thanks for telling us; so now we have two historical inaccuracies. But in any case, some inaccuracies are far more noticeable than others. Because there WERE NO BLACK CHILDREN IN BRITISH SCHOOLS IN 1823. Besides, think about it; even if there was (and especially if there was) we ought to be taught or shown by the folks who made this film a bit about him - for example, who he was, what he studied, and what happened to him when he grew up... Just so that we can be sure that he wasn't thrown in to propagate a ridiculous, revised understanding of British history to convey a mendacious, and frankly pathetic idea of how tolerant and diverse our country has always been. And given how little information there is about him - honestly I haven't seen anybody on this comments section give his name - it's obvious that he was picked for the latter reason.
True and moreso the whole story is proven myth by the time Web Ellis was in the school rugby was already a sport. He was not the first person to pick up the ball. It is a good story though.
I still remember watching Samoa vs Japan and France vc Canada in Milton Keynes and I don't think much will ever top that, especially with my mate performing before one of the games with his band. What a time to have seen it
This is just beautiful, il look back on this in fifty years and have a tear saved for that moment, when realised I was lucky to play the greatest sport in the world 🏴🌹🏉
If you haven't noticed, all those extras are former or current rugby players. The whole thing is just meant to be a laugh. Even this story of the origins of rugby is just a myth
Hey! Black kids went to Rugby Public School in 1823. I didn't know that! Or is this history re-written for the sake of over-zealous political correctness?
+Ray Tate this country has gone cookoo! suicidal political correctness runs deep in our populations veins its only right we go out of the world cup nice and early!
+The ToyCave Yes, given the current political situation you have to wonder whether allowing anybody (in any context) to rewrite history is a good idea. The dogma of over-zealous political correctness seems to be leading us towards cultural and political catastrophe. As for the rugby, like all professional sports it has become saturated with pointless spin because spin generates more money for the people at the top of the game. Ho hum...
Do you realize how much time and effort this takes to make? I was at the opening ceremony, and the first part itself took a whole day's filming and frustration. For all the 150 people who were there.
Soccer naturally leads to Rugby. I used to be goalkeeper at my school in Switzerland and one day felt the desire to run across the field with the ball still in my hands. Of course, the opposite team players started to do the same. Ever since Rugby became part of the curriculum and I like to believe there is now a Rugby Union Club in my old town ;)
One of many sports that were developed in the UK in fact there is no doubt this is the home of modern sports , the country that first put sports into the schools curicculam .
No one knows at this time that an incredibly hot tournament will be held in an Asian island country four years later, overturning the common wisdom of the world. That Asian island country is ... "Japan" Japanese just by recognizing that it is at the forefront of technology. I didn't know the people "Holding in Asia? It will fail" "I know Japan is a great country, but the rugby culture may not have matured enough to hold the Rugby World Cup" ... The first holding in Asia and the host country where such voices are heard here and there Japan ... I didn't know the world yet ... The Japanese said, "The Rugby World Cup is being held in Japan!" "Top players from all over the world are coming!" "If so, let's get ready and welcome!" And Kitakyushu City Then, at the time of the first practice of the Welsh national team, "Let's sing the Welsh national anthem!" "Let's gather volunteers at the Kitakyushu stadium and sing!" And even if 15,000 citizens gather at Kitakyushu Stadium on the day of the first practice and the plan to sing the Wales national anthem has begun ... And it "overturns the common sense of the world" "The common sense of Japan is the insane of the world" "It must be in Japan What you can't do ”... Nobody knows yet
Dressed up I saw Bill Baumont, Will Greenwood, Jason Leonard, Ian McGeekan, Serge Betson (I don't recognize who was beside Betson), Clive Woodward, and of course Wilkonson and Prince Harry.
As someone who lives in rugby i remember everwhere was just the world cup, the library opened w tonne of new stuff and i find it hard to believe that its almost been 4 years
1:04 - Were there really black kids in British schools, back in 1823? I hate to bring this debate up, but it doesn't strike me as historically accurate. Most white children didn't even go to school by that time, any way. ...Well if anybody knows who that person is supposed to be, then can they please link me to a Wikipedia article?
+BatHunterofDevon No there weren't. More politically correct nonsense. Feelings more important than facts these days, it's so tiresome now. Went to see War Horse a while ago and of course there was a token black soldier in the cast. Not only do I find this annoying because of it's historical inaccuracy, but I also think it's rather offensive to black people.
What's that got to do with black children being educated in the early 19th century, in which social classes were more rigidly defined, and only children from upper-class families were educated (which was a very small percentage of the population), Britain was still involved in the transatlantic slave trade, and almost entirely ethnically homogeneous? Bear in mind this also back when scientific racism was widely accepted in society and blacks were not treated very fairly. It doesn't make sense, and it's highly unlikely that they were. To me, it conveys this ridiculous idea that it is more important to be politically correct than factually correct.
funny how they use the all blacks as the defense getting stepped all thru the video....truth is all blacks gone smash england at their own hosting hahah, the opening and the haka macarena is all mind games but NZ will be laughing at you when we hold up the cup....the english not the humbliest are they
+Oliver McCall (wingding341) rightttt and they jus happened to be wearn black jersies with white collars....then made a macarena dance to humiliate the maori of nz and called it hakarena....no you guys are humble alright, but we see who comes out on top
+Oliver McCall (wingding341) I couldn't believe that the Springboks lost to Japan oh well hope Japan makes it to the knockout stages and it's coming from an All Black fans
Perhaps mention the host country and founder of Rugby in the video ? its ENGLAND. I get the feeling the woke brigade got their tentacles into the opening ceremony. Reigned in the patriotism.
Remember watching this. Literally everyone, even my patriotic English grandparents agreed that this was utter nonsense, and only good in the eyes of some hippy artist.
What a disappointing opening ! Looks like England spent all of a tenner on the production. Snow White, the singer who sang the opening theme song was so off tune, it was almost unbearable to listen to. Good thing Simon Cowell or any team of Idols, Britain's got talent judges was there as I'm sure there would of been four embarrassing X's... if I was there and had paid to see the show I would of demanded my money back.. I got the gist of the theme, but the only real professional part of the entire event, besides the actual game was Prince Harry.. Perhaps that's what Rugby World cup 2015 is about.. Come see the royals..
What I always tried to figure out if the rugby wrold cup named after a guy from England (William web) so why was the Very first Opening game held here in AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND because my uncle (SID GOING) ran the ALL BLACKS onto the (feld
For everyone, someone can tell me who is all the " old " rugbymen we see during the clip from the beginning to the end ? ( I know Serge Blanco, Jonah Lomu, David Campese, Jason Robinson, Brian O'Driscoll, but the others....I don't know them, sorry :) ) Thanks guys and enjoy the WC ! Cheers from Britanny, France.
