By mistake I bought a 5 round magazine. Found this video in disassembly, open up the mag and cut off the plastic stop prohibiting the magazine from holding 10 rounds.

Love the video, have 3 mags that are so old they have slotted screws instead of allen screws ( previously owned rifle from my youth ). What I did was squirt some ballistol in the feed ramps, let them soak for a day and then dissambled. After scrubbing up I soaked the parts in dawn to remove oily residue ( soap and water ) for an hour after agitation, rinsed them and put them on a towel to dry. Oil free and clean. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I used your instructions to get an old 10/22 magazine running again. I did have to use a jeweler file to smooth out some rough spots on the spindle grooves where the first couple of rounds were getting hung up.

Great video. I've been having malfunctions with mine and have been kinda nervous about tackling this. Back up and running now. Thank you!

Lovely video! My 10/22 has been struggling to feed the last 3 rounds almost everytime now, but was a bit cautious about taking it apart in fear of loosing springs etc. Runs smooth as butter now!! Thanks!!

An incredible amount of crud will build up internally, and externally on the 10/22 mags. Eventually they will not work properly. Most would be to intimidated to give a go at disassembly, but it's not all that bad, as this video shows. Regaining propper spring tension is the tricky part of the whole affair. But cleaning and maintenance are more warranted than with most any other magazine. Give it a try if your mag is not functioning correctly. What do you have to loose ? Good job.

Anybody still watching these magazine take apart, get small zip tie, go around the mag slip it below the nut and screw, , loosen the screw enough push it so the nut release from the mag, then take it out, slip zip tie off the top, put back together, put zip tie back on, mark the nut put the screw in so starts on the nut, then use a small box end 11mm wrench, craftsman, then just turn it 8 flats or 1 and 1/4 turns, push it in the mag, tighten the screw, all done, easy easy, slip the zip tie off the top,

Very helpful, thanks. My magazine decided it was going to stop feeding rounds through at the range today, and a good clean appears to have sorted it out.

Good lesson but I use parallel jaw pliers versus needle nose pliers.

I got 3 supposedly brand new official Ruger mags and they don't really function at all....Bullets are hard to get in & then they don't move out, they get stuck in the mag....I spent hours taking them apart & adjusting tension, etc....What a waste of time, they're nothing like the mag that came w/my rifle.

I would like to bring something to everyone's attention ...I have a original . "old" , version 1 ? ...10/22 rotary mag. It has the small Allen head screw that is 5/64th's !!! not 9/64th's which seems to a later ( current? ) design . I also have the newer mags with the 9 /64ths Allen head disassembly screw.

Why do you need to clean the magazine how often
@TheGoatMumbler
@TheGoatMumbler 3 года назад
Because 22 is a dirty round and after awhile crap gets built up on the feed lips.

Can you tell me what “COP” is that you use to clean the parts with? Is a “gun scrubber” aerosol ok to use in this application? Thanks
@ZeroJoJoZero
@ZeroJoJoZero 3 года назад
It's not "cop" it's "CLP", you can see the black can behind the green one. It's a gentile solvent. As long as you use something that does not react too harshly with plastic you will be fine.
