Due to your reviews, I received my Ruger 10mm carbine from the FFL today. Thank you for all you do. Going to throw a verticle grip on it with a 1x6 scope. Slowly turning into a Ruger fanboy. Got the 5.7 carbine and pistol, 6.5 creed precision, and the SR1911 in 45acp. Thats how I support american made.

It is well known not to mix aluminum and steel because the electrolysis causes steel corrosion. I suppose with a stainless steel barrel, it would be less of an issue. This could be useful for one thing... TRAINING! 40s&w is far cheaper than 10mm and a well broken in carbine could likely cycle 40s&w ball ammo since many target load 10mm are bordering that 40s&w power levels. I would make sure to clean the chamber especially well since the shorter rounds could make a carbon ring that could snag 10mm ammo up going into the chamber and/or stick 10mm cases in the chamber after firing.

Well if you had not tested 40 S&W, I would have.👍 I am not surprised the LC Carbine will run it being direct blowback, I do not expect my Banshee to cycle it though. I could be wrong, but the radial delay blowback of the Banshee is a different animal and I just don't have a clue how it will behave.🤷‍♂ I like that the charging handle is non-reciprocating, the PC Charger and Carbine charging handles reciprocate, but they are farther back.

G.K. U.S.A. A 223( 5.56) was originally a medium range caliber that was used to control coyotes, Prarie dogs, etc. The rifles used were rifles with 20-24" barrels to reach approximately 3000 fps. The energy levels were 1500- 1800 ft.pounds. By reducing the barrel lengths to 16", the energy, velocities ,and effectiveness are greatly reduced. Check this out. A center of mass hit with a 10mm pc has to be just as effective as a 5.56mm at home, urban, and suburban ranges. Plus, the 10mm pc can.be paired with a 10mm pistol.

The only reason I can think of that Ruger would not recommend aluminum cased ammunition in this firearm would be if they experienced reliability issues with it. For liability reasons, there is no way Ruger would put this firearm out there if they had experienced catastrophic failures with a particular brand of factory ammo that was available to the public. I think you mentioned something to that effect. If so, I'm just reiterating. I'm not a 10mm fan. I'm not even a fan of PCCs. But I'm enjoying this series.

The aluminum case on the Blazer's needs a protective coating ( I think) and if that coating gets worn, old and dirty like it will unless it's fired right out of the box....the frictional properties of the case change and they can refuse to extract. Or grab after beginning extraction and separating.

For the rest of us, you really should never shoot 40 S&W through 10mm firearms if you can help it. .40 cal is shorter than 10mm, so it leaves a gap at the front of the cartridge between the chamber and the actual barrel when it is seated in the chamber, which is a place for pressure buildup and eventually critical malfunction.
@sonsofisstvan1675
@sonsofisstvan1675 День назад
Old wives tale
@tiiarmory

A .40 S&W won’t fire in a 10mm cylinder. The cartridge will fall into the chamber beyond the reach of the firing pin, since there is no extractor to hold it in place.
@tiiarmory
@tiiarmory День назад
Aside from the potential for malfunctions, the only issue that could hypothetically arise from this practice is if carbon buildup from firing .40 ammunition interfered with the release of the bullet from a 10mm case, which would spike pressure. This is not an issue in a properly cleaned and maintained firearm, and it does not prevent .38 Special from being fired in .357 Magnum firearms, to name one example. I would be more concerned about the potential dangers of firing overpressure 10mm ammunition, which is becoming increasingly common.
@FauxAmis78

@@tiiarmory I don’t understand what you mean.
@FauxAmis78
@FauxAmis78 День назад
@@tiiarmory Revolvers are different because the chamber is not connected to the barrel, so it doesn’t matter if the cartridge is shorter because you won’t have those gaps from the projectile not seating properly where the chamber tapers down into the barrel. Shooting 40 S&W out of a 10mm revolver is no issue at all. I meant everything else (pistols, carbines, etc.).

Federal makes the same 180g Hydra Shok in 10mm and it is only rated for 1030fps. There is no need to shoot 40S&W in a 10mm, lots of ammo companies load 10mm down to 40 specs. I must be weird, I've never tried or wanted to shoot any 40 in my four 10mms.
@ChadBoss-qr4hl

I think the desire comes from the desire to make it more versatile, like either in the sense of it's cheaper or more ammo options in a shortage or shtf situation. I don't really agree with either premise, but that's what it seems to come from. As far as being cheaper, if money's that tight I would say they shouldn't be shooting 10mm anyway, or maybe look into reloading. As for shortages and shtf I think you're just as likely to run across 10mm as you are .40-- but you're far far more likely to run across 9mm, to the point where if it's shtf and you're out of 10mm you probably already ditched it for a 9mm anyway. That kind of versatility makes more sense with .38/.357 in my opinion, not so much 10/40.

The SA Elite OSP in 3.8" 10mm runs the .40 very well. So, the .40 in quality ammo offerings may be a viable option in the home to avoid over penetration, or at least an option for consideration. If/when Ruger offers the 10mm and .45 acp LC Carbines in a shorter barrel pcc offering (7-8"), I would really consider them. Or, how about a .45 acp & 10mm offering in the FPC from S&W... easier to fold / store and still get the velocities of the longer barrel when fully unfolded.
@BloodAlwaysFindsItsLevel
@BloodAlwaysFindsItsLevel День назад
Stop telling people to use 40 in the 10mm for self defense, this man is showing us practice capability ammunition, and also showing us that the weapon is reliable in less than desirable or very unorthodox circumstances. But you would never ever want to use 40 in a 10 mm weapon for self-defense. That would absolutely be the dumbest thing you could say on this topic. If you're worried about over penetration in a home defense system then use a lesser handgun or buckshot system.
