Several subscribers asked us to compare the Ruger PCC to the new S&W Response carbine. Both carbines shoot the ubiquitous 9mm round and utilize popular pistol magazines associated with the brand specific handguns of their respective manufacturer and a conversion kit to use Glock magazines.
Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCCs), allow the operator to use the same ammunition and magazines that are used in their semi-automatic pistol. Since the 9mm has minimal felt recoil, PCCs are enjoyable to shoot, especially for newer shooters. Economically the 9mm cartridge offers advantages over centerfire calibers which tend to be more expensive to shoot. Finally many three gun competitions allow users to compete with PCCs.
In our testing the S&W Response and the Ruger PCC both performed will. Providing a light weight, accuracy, and reliability. We got good gtoups at 25 and 50 yards, and we're able to consistently knockdown steel silhouettes at 100 yards.
The Ruger and the S&W and also fill a role in service as a personal protection, home defense tool.
Carbines like the two shown in this video, are easier to shoot the pistols because they offer multiple points of contacts. This facilitates the abiloity to enge targets at greater distances and a shorter learning curve for newer, less experienced shooters,
For people looking for a carbine that uses the same ammunition and magazines as their handgun, these two carbines are well worth consideration.
Ruger is a registered trademark of Ruger Inc
Glock is a registered trademark of Glock Inc
S&W is a registered trademark of Smith and Wesson Corp.

Many thanks for commenting and watching. The reality is the manufacturing and use of polymer products as advanced so much in recent years. My G 19 pistol has over 50,000 rounds through it and the frame is absolutely as solid as it was the first day. I have no concerns about the long term durability of the response Carbine.

Just a heads up, anyone choosing the S&W, check the build date. The early ones need to go back for a modification on the bolt. If it was built before 2-14-24, get it fixed, free of charged.

I have a Ruger PC and love it. I also have the M&P Shield and an M&P Plus. The Ruger mags are, hands down, easier to load. That being said, get your dad a Maglula mag loader. I’m 70 and also arthritic. I also am not as strong as I was 20 years ago. The Maglula make a world of difference, especially with S&W magazines.

I put the Holosun 403G with the riser and now I can look through that and use my iron sights. My Ruger PCC now looks alot like the picture on the TANDEMKROSS Uprisor Chassis box to include a pistol grip, only I have the canted stock version and a Mission First minimalist stock. When I purchased my Ruger PCC it was in the American flag version with the MLOC forearm and traditional rear stock. The stock and forearm are now painted a Patriot pearl blue. It is a very accurate and reliable tool. Chambered in widely available 9MM ammunition. I like the Response for what it is a 9mm AR PCC.

On my RUGER PC chassis carbine (MAGPUL MOE stock) I added a MAGPUL 1/4" high cheekpiece to align my eye with both the HOLOSUN AEMS circle/dot sight and the co-witnessed MAGPUL MBUS sights. It's an inexpensive and fast way rather than buying a lower AEMS mount. @@russellleavitt4449

I was considering these two rifles and went with the response. Ultimately it came down to the familiarity of the weapons platform in terms of take down and function. It matches all my other AR platform rifles. The ruger is nice with the added iron sights but I like the incresed sight radius MBUS flip ups afford on the response. Really you cant go wrong with either and both are solid.

100% agree. My point was the firearm for its cost should come with backup sites. That’s just a personal feeling about value. What many people don’t know is if their red dot sight goes out, and all they have up is the front site, they can use that in combination with the aperture of the red dot to have an effective aiming solution. I got the S&W response and the first 200 rounds went without a hiccup. The charging handle will take some getting used to and though it looks a bit rickety with all the polymer, it is a good shooter with iron sights. Just don't torque down too much on the MLOC rail when attaching accessories since it is polymer too. I'm sure the Ruger is fine and I considered it, but the lighter weight of the Response and a non-break barrel sealed the deal for me.

Sir, those are good reasons for many people to choose the response carbine. Good points on the fact that most of the firearm is made from polymer. We will see how well it holds up. I use the Sig MSR red dot that has the raised skeletonized mount. I can look under the red dot and right through the irons when I want. The red dot doesn’t seem too high at all. I can comfortably use it to hit targets at various ranges. It’s actually made me think about putting a raised Vortex 3x prism on it and use irons for close range and the optic for long. Though there’s realistically no need to I guess, but it could be done.

What I like about the Ruger PC Carbine is that is doesn't have a pistol grip and is NOT classified by gun grabbers in Kommufornia as an "Assault Weapon".... Sir, if I can lay my hands on one, I’d be happy to do that. The reason I was more interested in the response carbine versus the FPC is because the fire control system in the response carbine is much more similar to an AR15. based on the teaching and training, I do I found it more practical to standardize. Several hundred round through the response carbine we are very favorably impressed. Thanks for watching.

@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC

Thanks for watching and sharing your perspective. I prefer to keep my dominant hand on the fire control system. This allows me more control, particularly in a retention situation. If I remove my dominant hand from fire control to manipulate other aspects, such as releasing or reloading, the Weapon, I’m at a disadvantage. Regardless of whether I’m charging the firearm or reloading, keeping my dominant hand on fire control, allows me to have positive control of the weapons platform. If you think about training with your handgun, the typically you would not switch the handgun to your non-dominant hand to reload or charge the gun with your dominant hand. I believe in keeping a consistent process and approach regardless of the firearm. Again, thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment. I hope you will subscribe.

on the rtuger if you put in the glock mag well change the mag catch as the mag catch is metal and will wear out the glock plastic mag notch ruger mags are metal so the metal catch is okay

hi, the Response is not take-off carbine, can we separate using the 2 pins and disassemble it for each travel ? i want to use a small bag. any pieces will fall ?
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC 9 месяцев назад
Yes, you can certainly disassemble it. However, there is a part that can fall out if you’re not careful. This part sits where the frame and the upper come together in the magazine well. If you’re looking for a true takedown carbine, you might want to look at the Ruger PCC . I appreciate you commenting, and hope you will consider subscribing to the channel.

The ruger is legal in New York, the other is not……..

Yes, you are correct. There are many states that view any type of long gun with a pistol grip or collapsible stock as somehow more dangerous than one without it. It’s an absolutely ludicrous case, but people react in funny ways when presented with freedom. Most folks on the far left these days believe only their group of elites should dictate what is permissible within society. They know what’s best and the average citizen doesn’t. These people struggle to understand the federalist papers or the concept of a constitutional republic. These folks prefer to give up freedom in the promise of safety. Unfortunately, that has never worked in the world. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment and hope you will subscribe and share the fan channel with friends and family !

Good video. But. Ruger has at least 3 models of PCC. One of them is "tactical", has adjustable stock, pistol handle, MLOK heat shield. Comparing S&W to wrong Ruger PCC model is like comparing oranges and apples. May I suggest reshoot proper review? P.S. I have Ruger PCC with butt stock, heat shield and iron sights together with Romeo 5 on high mount. Thinking about getting PCC which is easier to use in IDPA. Btw, any words if S&W planning to release 8-10" upper?

Sir, thank you so much for watching and commenting. I also agree that it is an apples to oranges comparison because ruger does offer many options as you noted. I’m well aware that Ruger hasoptions now that allows greater flexibility for their forend and mlok attachments. I think the Ruger PCC is fine product. The Ruger however, does not have a fire control system similar to the A.R. 15. There’s nothing wrong with a ruger design. It just follows the pattern that they use. Things like a cross bolt safety, the magazine release, and reciprocating bolt. I own both products and appreciate their unique characteristics and design. Both are reliable, accurate and fast handling. Thank you for sharing your comments and calling out some of the things I failed to mention.
