I recently rebarreled a Rem 700 to a Remage. I may do a video too :) I had a 16 inch 30-06 that someone had a 18 pencil barrel down. I like longer barrels for target rifles. Forester make great gages.
Awesome! Cant wait for the install vid! I have an action wrench from AA, works perfect.. Looking forward to hearing more results with this new barrel 👍🏻
Manson Reamers sells really affordable head space gauges, and some he calls the "Down and Dirty" head space gauges. Those are only polished on the needed faces with a mat finish everywhere else and are much cheaper. They sell more than reamers and gauges.
Excellent presentation on the tools required for a barrel change for Ruger Precision Rifle. I just discover your channel and I cannot seem to find your video on the actual barrel change video. Is it in a private folder?
Putting a $400 barrel on a $200 rifle probably not a good investment. I have a few more things to try, but might end up sending it back to see what they do with it
i have a Remington model 7 with a worn out 308 win barrel i got a used 7mm 08 & 243 win barrels, barrel vice from savage barrel swap, i got action removal tool & I had to have a action install tool ordered, i got go and no go gauges already for 308-243 & i figured used barrels would make the gun safer to hunt with! the fire threw out the end of the barrel badly at near dark & kicked nasty bad too! i used factory ammo with heavy-er stock same thing so the only safe load was ,6 times the re load amount = it 25.2 h4895 a light load for kids use it shot about like a 7.62 x 39 I had worked on its load & i tested 3 guns i had one hunting gun of the 3 it was little green stock rugar American, about 2 in left all 4 in a clump that will work the model 7 i shot 6 rounds you could fine 3 of them and a paper plate was smaller group! this is not good! i looked at little greens target it saved my A-- tomorrow hunting opening day! ps it after season fix the gun time i figured! Christmas over no better time then now!
Man! Just In time. Got a 28in Kreiger 6.5prc, 7.5 right twist. Got PTG go no go gages. What I cant determine is it better to hold the barrel and unscrew the nut or stick a creedmoor action rod into the PRC lugs and hope. What i have heard is to put about 60 lb/ft on the gun and wack the wrench with a steel hammer. What say you?
Making sure you have the action rod fully engaged you will probably be ok, I had someone hold the action into the action rod to make sure it went ok. By yourself having a barrel vice might be the easiest to break the nut loose. I am sure it was way more than 100 ft lbs to get it to break loose.
I’m very surprised the Preferred Barrel Blanks barrel is not hand lapped. That is a non-starter for me personally if I’m going to swap/upgrade barrels and spend the money, time and work, especially for long range precision. Should be interesting trying the 150’s with the 26” 1-7.5 twist!
Nice! That’s one sleek awesome looking bullet w a high BC. I was going to pick up an X-Caliber Savage prefit 7 or 7.5 twist in 6.5 CM to be able to shoot this bullet too this past June when they had their special 2 day 45% off sale for President (45) Trump’s birthday, but ended up playing it safe and going with a 5R 8 twist 27” bull barrel. I don’t get a chance to shoot past 600 very often and didn’t know if the CM had enough case capacity and if I could get enough velocity out of it to gain an edge over the 140’s, 142 and 147. Can you give us a hint on your initial velocities with the 26”?? Or do we have to wait in suspense for that week’s episode? LOL Btw, X-Caliber is running a 25% off sale that ends soon, the end of month. If you don’t see exactly what you want you can call them and they may be able to accommodate you like they did for me when I wanted a 1-6.5 twist 5R barrel chambered in 223 and it wasn’t listed on their website.
NEVER BUY FROM RUGER if you care about having a functional fire arms . they don't sell spare part whit out sending rifle back to factory that mean if the gun you have get banned or registration became mandatory your screw and wont be able to repair your gun . just example im looking for spare bolt body and Firing Pin Back for newest gen ruger rpr and unable to find the part .
