I am one of those people that work behind the counter of a gun store. I carry a revolver often. It does throw people off a bit. Today was an SP101 in a Galco Combatmaster holster and a 642 in a pocket holster. I know I can put them where they need to go...if not...its a few steps to a machine gun. lol.
Thank You for not subjecting us to witnessing that your firearm is not loaded, as so many utube gun handlers feel the need to show us. I think we all believe you are savvy enough, to know when a firearm is loaded, or not. Thanks again for your videos.
Good stuff. I’ve had mine for years. Carry it every time we go hiking or camping in the Idaho mountains with the kids. I load the Buffalo Bore Outdoorsman heavy hard cast 180gr just in case (gotta represent Salmon, Idaho!). It’s a great mountain gun along with the GP100. Very concealable also. Never been a polymer striker-fire pistol fan or 9mm fan. .357 revolver and .45 1911 for me. And no I’m not old, in my 30’s.
My wife carries that exact SP101 as one of her CCW pieces and yes it is loaded with .357 Federal Hydra-Shok. She's only 5' 105 pounds and I say it puts her on equal ground against any thug attempting a criminal act on her. I refer to it as her "equalizer." I assume you would agree?
@@Icarryone My wife also carries this one. I bought it for her several years ago for its simplicity, round-versatility, and good quality at an affordable cost. Thanks for the walk-thru and take care!
I think it’s the best revolver within its frame size, in carrying 5 rounds is more than enough to get out of any dangerous situation, if 5 is not enough it’s because you’re dead, and all the extra rounds became useless
sounds like a cliche to me. If there is more than one person don't give up. A speed-loader may come in handy. That being said, I carry a five round .38
A good cigar & a 3” SP101! Yip, that’s me in the fall... or the other 3 seasons. I call my SP101 my town & country carry. That tough little stainless magnum can handle rain on the trail the cold & wet of a duck blind and the god awful brushy pieces of mother nature’s crispy fall crumbled stuff. Yet the little SP rides unnoticed under my jacket or on my belt when we stop in town. Accurate too!
Own a few SP101s but the 3” with new springs, softer grips and a high viz sight has become my Goldilocks favorite. Thanks for an excellent review. Stay Safe-Be Well ! Everyone
Great all inclusive video. I resisted changing sweet and expensive factory grips but eventually did. My shooting hand middle finger has since thanked me.
I’m a staunch Ruger fan..my carry is an SP 101 in .327. I like it’s smaller frame..and near or equal power to the venerable .357. Mine has a 4.1” barrel. I cast a nice 75 grain bullet for it. Catch my channel for a soon to be released review.
Mine is identical to yours. I typically carry a smith 642. But wanted something for when i wanted "more". 38 special will do the job, but 357 leaves no doubts. Great gun. Holsters ate hard to find
Very nice gun, but Ruger should have made it a 6 shot. It just doesn't justify the size or significant weight increase over a J frame or an LCR. No thanks.
First: Awesome Vid Sir! I love the intro and you drawing it out of the holster. I am a Ruger fan boy but am lacking on Revolvers and Revolver knowledge/experience in general. This vid has definitely peaked my interest!
The draw at the beginning of the video is something you wouldn't want to see otherwise. If I draw a weapon, I have full intent to use it. Can't fathom you not having a couple of revolvers in your inventory.
Lake County Examiner, Lakeview, Oregon: Wednesday, March 23, 2021 www.lakecountyexam.com Letter to the editor: Best general purpose handgun For a general purpose handgun consider Ruger’s SP-101 .357 Magnum revolver: “stainless steel”, 5 shot swing out cylinder (double-action), with 4.2” barrel and target sights for the citizen owning only one handgun. Versatile for "self-defense/house protection/concealed carry", as a kit and trail gun for the outdoorsman/ sportsman, and for urban metro vs. wilderness rural use. At 30 oz. unloaded lightweight (for the hiker, backpacker, trapper), yet heavy enough to handle the .357 Magnum. Loaded with .38 Special 148 grain lead target wad-cutter ammo (next to a .22 or .32) practical for hunting small game: rabbit, squirrel, and grouse (for the campfire skillet), for dispatching vermin such as raccoon, skunk, possum, etc. Even for butchering livestock such as cattle with a head shot. Loaded with CCI's classic .38 Special shot or snake load of No. 9 shot highly effective in killing rattlesnakes. Readily and instantly accessible in reach via a nightstand, dresser or bureau drawer, or next to a sleeping bag inside a tent is very comforting armed security to have, especially at night! This handgun would also be great for a long haul trucker, or hay hauler, to carry. Even for the motorist traveling on a road trip. Yes, bear in mind being broken down, stranded, and having to spend the night alone in your vehicle. This .38/.357 revolver combination along with an Atomic Beam Flashlight, survival knife, fresh drinking water, food, toilet paper, shovel ,matches, wool blanket, etc. could certainly take back the night .Even for a woman it's smaller frame and size would still fit her smaller hands. And firing.38 Special ammo in this .357 Magnum could still be handled by a female. Double action revolvers can be improved with aftermarket combat rubber grips. Nice video. I like the way you speak. This was the first gun I ever owned. I bought one back in 2009. I loved it. Unfortunately I was very low on money around 2012 and had to sell it and regret it ever since. Today I found a used one with grips just like the one in this video with a holster for very cheap at a local gun shop. I'm happy to say I once again own an sp101 357 3 inch
Great video as always. When compared to the Police Service Six, their cylinders look so much alike, surely Ruger could have squeezed in another round to also make it a six shot capacity?
Nice video, well done & I could listen to more. I LOVE my SP101 & revolvers (especially in .357 Mag). I've been "on the job" since '86 & cut my teeth with an issued S&W 66 in 4" (full Remmy 125grn SJHP mags) from the Academy thru about 1990 (then came the cold-hard-souless auto). I had great instructors and truly learned how to accurately shoot, efficiently handle and effectively deploy a revolver in all environments & conditions. I never felt undergunned and hold great pride that I can still reload a full size revolver faster than most can their semi's...but admitedly, I still carry a revolver off-duty thus still practice & qualify with one (or 2 or 3) and regularly shoot IDPA w/ GP100 and full "OLD SCHOOL" duty rig for FUN. I'm still on the job, uniform patrol on the street, and forced to haul this lifeless piece of plastic on my hip (hey..young-buck, I handle that better than most as well...don't you worry..lol). I miss the old days of steel, leather, speed loaders, dump pouches and loops (and saps & Mag-Lights and brick radios and leather jackets & boots...lol)!!! PRACTICE...with your revolvers if you carry one!!
Great video as always, Sir! If I could carry (here pistols are only for sport) I would gravitate towards a double action revolver. Its simple, safe and does what its intended to do. But of course one does not look as cool as the appendix carrying G19 crowd with one missing testicle. Take care!
I had my 2 1/4 model ported had the hammer bobbed, and the Trigger tuned up by a #1 friend & gunsmith. I would never sell or trade this beutey, although the limited capacity concerns me a bit. Great Vidio.
The Ruger SP 101 is an excellent revolver. As I am Canadian, mine has a barrel of 4.2. (match Champion) I have very impressive results with the 125gr., At 25 meters. I really like this revolver. Small and very solid. Good video as always sir.
I've had the 1st 3" in SP- 101 that came out an can readily carry it concealed an have, an DONT feel the least bit undergunned to say the least, very accurate to boot, now looking at the LCR .357 in 3" in, for a walking in the woods gun. Thx for the vid.
I can tell you that the SP101 is great but the GP100 is a better more accurate model, I've only had one SP101 in 357mag but traded it shortly after for a GP100 in 357 since then, I've been building a collection. Great video 👌
I've got one on order. I picked up a Smith 640 for carry and I wanted a j frame sized wheelee with a 3 inch barrel that can with stand a lot of 357 for a prospecting gold in a river gun (Colorado) in somewhat familiar area. Out here there's so much criminal activity a large capacity gun is required if your going to venture but if you've made a claim a revolver is perfect. Great vid and BE WELL!
