That's my old deer rifle, Mike, I got for Christmas in 1997 I think. 25-06. Absolute pounder. I beat living the crap out of that for years. It still shoots the day I got it. Taken tons of deer. They are the perfect bush gun. Wood is really hard on mine. Barely scratches... Little heavy from the hardwood. But so cheap back then. I think my wife bought it for a couple hundred bucks...

I have an MR-7 in .280 Rem with the floor-plate and walnut stock. The floor-plate model featured a detachable box magazine attached to the floor-plate, 'al a the Browning A-Bolt, so they took inspiration from Winchester, Ruger Remington AND Browning for the MR-7. Rumor has it that they were threatened with lawsuits for some of the feature infringements. They were/are an excellent rifle and my .280 is a real tack-driver.

The tabletop looks red to me. Now on to something important like rifles. Remington made an ADL without a floor plate. Had a used one I picked up second handed. Didn't keep it long because it would fire sometimes when you knocked the safety off. I know now what caused it to do that, but at the time I just thought it was do to a poor home trigger job. So maybe Marlin somewhat copied a Remington ADL?

Back some 40 years ago, one of my fellow U.S. Marines, was profoundly color blind. Near as Doctors could figure, he could see a little green or red, but mostly everything was brown in varying shades. Anyone wearing camouflage uniforms in the wild, he says their clothing just 'glowed' as compared to the the other surrounding vegetation. So, the red bench cloth may very well look greenish to (USOG) him! Cheers from Texas!

Gotta love Texas! Thanks for the note. Whatever color it is...it sure is soft
@gusloader123
@gusloader123 11 месяцев назад
@GalvestonCountyMike ---> The reason it "glowed" to him was that we had to starch our Utilities and then the Cammies when they came in about 1976. That starch shows up on starlight scopes and infrared binos/sights. 'Tis why the Army camouflage uniforms (90's to 2007 anyway ) said on the label: DO NOT use starch. Iron only with water. Anyone with that bad of colorblindness should never have been in a combat arms MOS.

A departed gunsmith friend of mine saw everything in shades of grey. He said that it helped a great deal with machining work. He also stated that during the-Second World-War, he couldn’t understand the fuss that people made about dazzle camouflage on ships because he could see such vessels clearly.

Peculiar. I once tried to get a job as an air traffic controller. They had a fairly thorough color blindness test where you had to line up dots from dark to light. After I placed all the pieces where I thought they belonged the Lady looked at me and in a somewhat befuddled voice said "does that look right to you"? Unfortunately I had to keep looking. As I understand color blindness there are basically two types, people who struggle with reds and people who struggle with greens. I see some greens but other shades of green just look gray to me. Ive never heard of anyone who couldn't see either green or red before.

Marlin and Mossberg both came out with a less expensive rifle than the Remington 700 series. Remington countered with the 788 to beat them out of the bolt action market. And it worked! No more center fire bolt actions from either one. Until recently, long after the war was won by Remington.

its ben about a decade since i found my bolt action, i believe ive commented about it several times threw the years on how it compares to other similar rifles, its a Remington made mod 1917, that from 10 feet away it looks like a bubba sporterised mill surp. the rear sight base and ears wer milled off and reshaped and the receiver was polished blued and drilled & tapped and fitted with a med heavy 25 in barrel and came with a very early production weaver k4 with a custom fine cross hair and a teeny dot in the center witch roughly equals 1moa at 100yrds...it turned out to be a full on action up custom job that was priced at 199$ it weighs around 12 pounds other than that it compares rather well with the 3 rifles you wer comparing, as its a controlled feed bolt with a claw extractor like the ruger m77 and the win pre 64 mod 70 and shares the dog leg shaped bolt. i personally prefer this to the rem700 or the marlin witch ide also never heard of lol. its also the oldest gun i own at the moment. and has exceeded all expectations as far as it being accurate and fun to shoot, the recoil is soft thx to it weighing 12 pounds. the stock is even nice, figured walnut with a cheek rest that puts me in the exactly wear i should be in line with the scope, its pretty rad!

I forgot about the Marlin MR (Marlin Rifle?) 7. Never popular because Marlin is a lever and 22 manufacturer, in the publics mind. I've always been a bit surprised by the number of bolt action rifle that wear a "7" in the model number. 70, 700, 77, 7 (Rem and Marlin), 670 and probably a few I'm not thinking of. As superstitious as hunters are I'm surprised there isn't a model 777. The green table top looks great 😊. Actually I can hear the video fairly well. Thank you. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Jeff

Hello Mike. Yes, the Marlin RM-7. What a wonderful rifle. I Camouflage coated with DuraCoat one of these in .270 win. As you know, to do this the rifle must be taken down to it's smallest parts. In doing so it became apparent that this rifle borrowed heavily from Ruger, Remington, Winchester and Savage. The design engineers took the best features of each of these rifles and incorporated them into the RM-7. It was very well thought out and function was flawless. I was mightily impressed. All in all a quality piece of engineering. This one had a black synthetic stock, very plain Jane looking, unlike yours. But after a British DPM pattern camouflage DuraCoat job it looked really smart. Topped with a Nikon 3-9X BDC it proved quite accurate. After sight in it's first real world shot took a big woodchuck at 125 yards with one clean head shot. Yes, Marlin made the finest lever guns. But with all their experience and lessons learned they can produce one hell of a fine bolt gun. They fooled around with this concept in the 80's. I think it was the model 800. It wasn't around long, but they did have a nice heavy barreled version that shot very well. It just couldn't beat the competition at that time. I'm sure you will find yours a pleasure to shoot and it will impress you, especially with it's accuracy. If you do your part. Good luck and enjoy.

Wasn't B for 'blind magazine?' Not a bad rifle, comparable to a Rem 700 ADL, Savage 110, or a Winchester 70 Ranger push feed. I love my Marlin MR-7 It borrowed all the good things from several reputable brands. Winchester receiver, trigger and safety, Remington locking lugs and 3 rings of steel, Ruger bolt handle, Browning drop out floor plate and detached detachable magazine. Recessed crown, actory glass bedded and very accurate.

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns The MR-7 was made from 1996-1999 and they have a Walnut stock. Not sure on the MR-7B as far as manufacturing dates but assume it was an even shorter span than the regular versions most likely 98-99? I read they had to stop production due to patent infringement. I do love mine and it is superbly accurate with 165 grain loads.

I have a Ruger M77 that is in good condition. It was advertised for two months but could not be sold. Its bolt action is very crisp, a Mauser style Control Feed, and it also has a Weaver scope. The only reason I want to sell it is that it has no iron sights.

USOG --- Put that pinkish-red tablecloth back in the box and send it back for a refund! Colorblind people should never be hired to work in order selection or shipping departments or paint departments! I wonder how many times that person has caused a wreck, or a hospital visit because they cannot tell red from green?!? {Looks like it is tablecloth from a Taco restaurant, late 1950's. 🤕} The rifle looks like the Marlin Model MR 7. Made from 1996 to 1999. Chambered in .25-06 / ,270 / .280 / 30-06. 22-inch barrel, 6-groove rifling with a recessed muzzle. With a walnut stock it had a floorplate. With the less expensive birch stock it had no floor plate. As you noted: Rem. m700 bolt-face, Win. m70 wing safety, Ruger m77 bolt handle. To tell what year your Marlin M7 was made, subtract 2000 from the first two numbers of the serial number. More information can be found on the "Marlin Owners" website discussion board.

Hi Mike. Does that Marlin bolt rifle have micro groove rifling like a lot of Marlins had? It sure looks sturdy but would look even better in walnut. I sure like your Ruger 77. I have 2 Ruger MKII rifles. One is a VLE tactical in .223 with semi heavy matt black 26" barrel in a laminated beavertail stock. I found it locally here in Reno as new old stock. The other is identical but in 25-06 and Rugers competition silver. The 25-06 shoots most factory ammo i tried in it well under an inch @ a hunnert. Have not shot the .223 yet but i'm sure it won't disappoint.
@UnitedStatesOfGuns
@UnitedStatesOfGuns 11 месяцев назад
Hi - I went to check just now - the rifling looks slightly different from say the others but is likely button rifled and no micro groove. I like your Rugers - the 25-06 continues to astound doesn't it! One here's so little about the 25-06 - yet it is a fantastic round; and supremely accurate in most rifles - especially the Ruger. Cheers

Years ago I had a very fine rifle built on a fn Mauser action.i had it done Remington 700 all style.no floorplate.the gunsmith looked at me as if I were stupid and said I've never seen a custom rifle without a floor plate.roy was a friend and I asked him in all your years of shooting how many times did you dump your mag via floorplate he answered never.the best rifle I own is a stock winchester model 54 1st year production. This rifle is so pointable and accurate its unbelievable. My only complaint is that it has that stupid unopperable floor plate. Great video as always

If I remember correctly that rifle was an attempt by Marlin to enter into the bolt action realm. It is a lose copy of the Remington 722/723 with a Winchester side swing type safety. Didn’t sell very well mainly because Winchester and Remington flooding the market with cheap to produce push feed 700’s and 70’s respectively.
