Terrain, obstacles, etc can play a factor but on average you can get about 2 miles or a bit more if conditions are right.

Although very similar in appearance, our Version 2 RH5R was not a Baofeng. We worked with them on a custom variant of their UV-5R (our original RH5R) a few years ago. Major quality control issues (and the fact that they refused to make it FCC compliant) forced us to cut ties with them. Our Version 2 shared no components with theirs. Ours featured a full-length aluminum chassis, was tuned for consistent transmit & receive range, and had a much easier interface. Not to mention, the zero was in the right spot :). Our RH5R V2 was FCC certified, compliant, and came preprogrammed with channels Rugged licensed, through the FCC, for our customers to use.
