The Brand Newest *Rugrats* Video Game after ALL these years: *Rugrats: Babies in Video Game Land!* Congratulations on getting this Game for the PS5 System, Tikal!
The 40 dollars is for a physical copy, which for some reason they’re making a limited number of . I agree that that’s stupid. The digital copy, which in this case for some reason seems to be the “standard” way to get the game, is $24.99. That’s expensive for an approximately 45 minute game, yes. But the point is that this is a novelty situation; there was never an 8 bit home console Rugrats game at the time the show was out (again, I’m referring to home consoles not handhelds, I’m aware of the Gameboy games). The aim of publishing this game is to make it exactly like an 8 bit NES Rugrats title would have been, had there been one. Barring a few examples of 8 bit generation games with a few lines of reused digitized audio, 8 bit era games didn’t have full voice acting. To do that to a full extent with real voice actors throughout an entire NES game would have been literally impossible at the time. Also the length, while short, honestly fits the bill too. Yes there were obviously NES games that existed that were much longer but platformers based on licensed properties generally didn’t fall into that category. I will say that maybe closer to two hours would have been slightly better in my opinion but for what it’s going for it’s really fairly standard. Also if it had been real at the time, depending on your exact region and market it could have sold new at the time for anywhere from 30-50 dollars. Obviously they’re not going to charge 50 dollars for this now, but I think $24.99 is fair. Also even though the point is to create a game that tries to mimic what it would have been like had there been a NES Rugrats, (and btw there is a graphical filter to change to modern visuals, which is the mode this video is shot in,but it plays identically both ways and it’s designed and programmed to fit the 8 bit aesthetic)it is important to note that the game itself didn’t actually ever get made,so this is completely original. It’s not like it’s some ROM that already existed that they’re remastering. They actually had to make the game. It’s a completely different concept from something like Ducktales Remastered from 2013, for example. This game was never actually real. They got permission to use the characters and made it using modern technology. Also you have to factor in that part of the price that we’re paying as consumers is paying for the Rugrats license. Obviously that’s stupid but, you know, capitalism lol.
And I’m sorry, but even if this were a low budget indie title that wasn’t based on any IP, 5 to 10 dollars is a ridiculously low price to expect any developer to charge, for any game, really, unless it’s a cheap generic phone game or something. I guarantee you it cost more to both license and make than something that they could reasonably sell for 5 to 10 dollars.
Thank you so much for this. Was super handy for the bosses where I had no clue what to do! I enjoyed the nostalgia but my word the jumping and the constantly re-spawning enemies were painful.
I’ve also played this on my PS5 and I was mostly having a problem with the dream level. The first time I got to the boss, I got a game over, then it took me a while to remember how to get thru the level. Also, I didn’t have an option to play with the 8-bit graphics
How is it they have the game if it’s not released yet? I don’t understand it. I preordered mines at GameStop. First they said August 16th and then they changed it to December for the release. I really want to play this game right about now. 😮
