Rule 88: Questions in Indirect Speech

The last few rules have been discussing indirect statements, and this video covers how questions are relayed in indirect speech. Unlike indirect statements which use an infinitive, indirect questions use a verb in the subjunctive mood, even when operating in extended indirect speech. But if the question is rhetorical and no real answer is expected? Then we use the standard accusative plus infinitive construction.

this is a super cool breakdown of the subjunctive kinds of questions available in Latin! I'd love an hour long treatment just with attested examples.

I don't know how I would learn without your tutorials! Can you recommend which videos I should really master to learn the essential grammar for a Lat-Eng translation exam? I am allowed to use a dictionary on this exam and an approximate translation is okay (no questions about the grammar are asked). Thanks! P.S. a video on your thinking process for translating Lat-Eng would be extremely helpful.

Thanks for the video. By the way, how do you create this video, could you give the name of the sofware? I'm impressed with the simple and efficient style of your work and want to try something similar. I've only checked Sony Vegas so far.

I use the Mac app Motion for my animations in this video. It’s a bit of software similar to Adobe’s After Effects, but simpler. It’s really an add on to Final Cut Pro (which I’ve been using more and more in recent videos).

What about questions in the future? Like "What will we eat?" That is "Quid edāmus". But "You know what we will eat." How would we do this? In latin we don't have a future subjunctive. The only way I think how I would do it would be using the active periphastic. "You don't know what we will eat." "Nescīs quid ēsūrī sīmus."
