I always think stories of killers and kidnappings and other mysterious stuff is more creepy in the 80s and early 90s, and even going further back. Anything pre internet and advanced cell phones. The whole there's a lot of unreported stuff makes it more mysterious. Don't get me wrong, it's good we can catch these people, but it takes out the creepiness factor of it as a story.
I am reading Boy's Life. It is like listening to a story told by your best friend from childhood.. I am loving it so thanks for that recommend. I am a new viewer and enjoy your talent, knowledge and energy. BAM like a hammer!
I read #2 thirty years ago and I was mesmerized. I never reread it, but I have started this #1 now and I just drown in his style again. Sad to hear that the style might go down a bit, but maybe the author just writes too much ? Nice collection. Hardcovers rule, but I learned that digital novels can be quite fun, too. Softcovers should be outlawed.
I have read RULES OF PREY several years ago and loved it. I agree with you that his earlier Prey novels had a more fresh, graphic energy to them. The thing that I love about Sandford the most is that he's amazing with the English language.
Great series. I've made it my mission to get all of them, plus Virgil Flowers, on Audible. Always a good time. I agree with you about the energy and fresh feeling of the books. Some of it is Davenport being older, some of it is just ... well, what you said. I sometimes miss younger, edgier Davenport. But at least he's only a page away.
