Jalal al-Din al-Rumi al-Balkhi is not Persian, but Afghan, and he is buried in the city of Konya, Turkey.

Don't try give Rumi an Iranian identity. He is actually from Balkh province of Afghanistan. But Rumi is a for all and no one should give him a citizenship according to their favor.

Afghanistan was a province of Persia at the time and he spoke Farsi in old days (historical knowledge is needed)! Balkh is now in Azarbayijan . Lots of people nowadays are born somewhere and then migrate to other countries does that make them out of their origin? All his poems are read and understood in Iran ! Listen to homayoon shajarian who sings his poems so beautifully that is only possible who understands what he is trying to say. And of course all masters are here to lead the human being ,with poems with lectures with their leadership Leading them to be unified as a human being and of course out of Ego and humans prejudice, So better to be a follower meanwhile if we really like and believe in him.

. افغانستان می‌گوید مولوی، زاده این کشور و متعلق به ماست. ایران می‌گوید چون بلخ محل تولد مولوی در گذشته جزء قلمرو این کشور بوده، پس او ایرانی است. ترکیه هم می‌گوید مهم این است که به اینجا آمده و در کشور ما زندگی و فعالیت کرده و در قونیه از دنیا رفته است. این سه کشور در این راه به قدر توان کوشش می‌کنند، اما هر تلاشی اگر از راهی درست دنبال شود، نتیجه می‌دهد و در غیر این صورت عبث خواهد بود.

Jalal edin muhammad balkhi is a persian poet not iranian he is from one of the cities in Afghanistan called balkh .Persia does not mean only iran there are lots of persian in Afghanistan too.

iran ? afganistan ? as what historic sources say, rumi lived and died in city of konya, what is today in turkey. and in 1200s a persian culture influenced seljuk sultanate. so he composed his poetry in farsi, i.e. iranian, but that doesnt make him "iranian" in todays standards. nation states and borders are inventions, cultures and places are ever ex-/changing. geographically speaking, and ethnically/migration wise speaking... lets be tolerantz open minded, open hearted like rumi was. in the end, all we know about him is more imagination and assumption then anything else. lets please leave aside nationalistic pride, and all the arguments of "you are this - i am that"... peace to all

For God's sake, Balkh is in Afghanistan, not Iran, so for that reason, you shouldn't call him Iranian. Please correct yourself because your mistake can harm Afghans feelings.

Rumi's birth place and nationality is in his name Rumi Maulana Jalaluddin BALKHI Balkh was And is still a province of Afghanistan Which in that erra was called Khorasan Only ignorant and uneducated call Rumi a Persian or Turkish poet RUMI was an Afghan poet and philosopher/Saint ❤

I try to remain a rational and logical person, but would you please refer to Balkh, Khorasan on the map in 7th Centrury? What language did they speak, and do speak now? Persia and Persian are terms used beyond the teritory of Iran. I hope you understand my Afghan brother/sister. We, the people of Iran love our Tajik and Afghan brothers and sisters. Stop the segregation and Start the union as our beloved Mulana Jalaluddin Balkhi Rumi said.

How was Rumi Iranian? Iran didn't exist - he lived in what is today Afghanistan. Iranians need to stop appropriating what does not belong to them.

Nationalism rears its ugly head whenever the question of Rumi’s identity and nationality is discussed. What is ironic is the fact that Iranians are proud of their Zoroastrian roots and detest Islam, which was the focal point of Rumi’s message and poetry. Rumi belongs to the world, but he was born in Balkh, Afghanistan and the remnants of his old house still stands today.

Rumi was a persian poet, scholar, and mystic who was born in Balkh, which is now in Afghanistan, but was part of Greater Iran at the time. He wrote most of his works in persian
