Viewing this video of yours was a journey in time and place through dance, music and information. You perform just beautifully Vasilís, and one can only imagine how much time and effort it takes to create such a video like this, and lots of editing. 😉 Well done! It's quite emotionally disturbing to think of all the cruelty that still haunts this world, and the part of the story that you tell is heartbreaking. Even if I knew about it before watching your video. Each time that I think about certain parts of the world history it really saddens me deeply. There's been so much suffering and cultural loss. One should wish that people at some point would learn from the past to prevent bad things from repeting itself in the future. What happened back then a hundered years ago to the Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians can't be justified in any aspect. It seems that certain political leaders should never have been born. Love from Norway ❤️
It is being continued constantly, in that same country ( turkey), constantly, until today. Always in a furry to incorporate all the different ethnicities of Anatolia, as there wasn’t a national group named: “Turks “, until mustafa kemal invented it, along with the country:”turkey “, that was what was left of otoman empire. First period: extinction of any other religion except Muslims. It continues till today, though nowadays it’s , mainly about second period: extinction of any Muslims that are not define themselves as Turks. And so Kurdish people are in the main menu, to be eaten by the ever genocide-state, that exterminated: greeks, armenians, asyrians, every non suni-myslims, arabs, Kurds, etc etc- the lust has no ending. In a country that ignores the real history that the rest of the world is studying, for a deformed narrative about trying to invent some fake history of the fake nation of Turks. When you don’t honor history, history is just passing you over, though. It does so, fast or slow but it always does.,
Greece has been through so much over the past centuries but you as people and your legacy will remain forever and - as the newer generations would say - you ran so that all the other Europeans could walk! Much love from Serbia, I adore your videos! Let's learn from the past and unite with music and dance! 🇷🇸❤️🇬🇷
Hard 100 years for Greece and all the Balkan full of suffering and wars... I wish the next 100 to be full of prosperity and happiness for us all. And I hope the problem with Cyprus will be finally resolved for good! People there deserve security and peace. God bless you all! Greetings from a Bulgarian! Еλλαδα σε αγαπαμε

Dear Vasili, this video tuched me very much! The former greek neighborhoods in Istanbul like Tatavla, Şişli, Pera and Tarlabaşı are so empty without the Greeks. Nationalism and political interests resulting in hate and expulsion. Thank you so much for your work. You are absolutely amazing.

It was hard to watch the intro, as Serbian/Armenian with a bit of Greek origin too. Also I visited Cyprus and I was kinda sad to what they did to that gorgeous country. Hope that we will be smarter and more united in the future, so these things could never happen again. Again, love your work, it is so important to celebrate our cultures.
Thank you for making a wonderful video, until now I did not realise the ture extent of how much the greek people sufferd, so keep up the greak work and may the eternal glory of Rome never be forggoten.
I am a 72 year old Greek woman living in California. My tears are running down my cheeks. I was born in Thessaloniki and brought up with stories from "πατρίδα " , "home ". My father was born in Bursa, my mother in Magnissia, Manissa. I want to see "home " before I die
I hope you hate America as much as you hate turkey for California is just as stolen as Prousa. The european anglos are the same as the turks and are foreigners to the land they inhabit. America is an enemy of hellenism.

Beautiful tribute, Vasili. Amazing how diverse indigenous Greek dances of Anatolia & Cyprus look in terms of costumes, movements, and music. Bravo. In solidarity. Much love. 👏🇦🇲🇬🇷🇨🇾
Thank you for this emotional and amazing dance tribute! I know that what you do can be hard, especially when people make rude and negative inconsiderate and condescending comments at times… If I may just say I really appreciate all your dance videos and how you strive to make a more peaceful world through sharing dance. I believe in what I can’t describe any other way except radical peace. I believe learning about, embracing, and celebrating the beautiful diversity of our eastern Mediterranean homeland is the only thing that will bring prosperity and a better future. We must look at and remember the horrors of the past and say “enough! No more! Never again!” “A house divided cannot stand.” Haters gonna hate. I’d rather just dance and eat all the delicious food and have fun with my whole eastern Mediterranean friends and family instead. Thanks again for the video.
ܠܐ ܛܘܠܩ ܠܢ! We will never forget the Genocide and expulsion of the Assyrians, Armenians and Greeks from their Homelands in Anatolia and Northern Mesopotamia at the hands of the Turkish Republic.
Valsilis, was wondering if you know or have knowledge of ancient Balkan/Greek/Agean dances? Would love to learn about the evolution of these dances because in some respect, they do have similar characteristics. Thank you! Love your work!
@@manygor2687 Arvanite is a medieval greek term for Albanians derived of the city of Arban. In their own language their language is called Arberesh, which is the term used by the Arbereshe speaking peoples in Italy who do have a strong tie to Albania. It is also the medieval Albanian term for Albanians themselves. Anyways the term Arvanite in modern terms It actually does not refer to the Arvanite speaking villages around Attica and Morea but all Albanian speaking Orthodox peoples. It was a term to distinguish them from another group of Albanians that the Greeks called Tourko-Alvanos (Muslim Albanians) this was a consciquence of the millet system i would say. Through the millet system the Albanian nation was divided into multiple millets. however whats interesting about Orthodox Albanians is that they formed the biggest groups of known Albanian nationalists during the rebirth of Albanian nationalism (Rilindja Kombetare). The Arvanites in the 19th century used a term for Greek speakers which is similar to the gheg term of Slavic speakers which is Shkija or Shkau meaning outsiders. The Arvanites during the 19th and 20th century also advocated heavily for what they called a ‘’Greek liberation of Albania’’ and an Greco-Albanian confederation. The thing is at this point they have a Greek national consciousness especially due to the eventual homogenenization of the Greek state which incorperated Slavs and Vlachs as well into the nation. Although historically they always had a tie with other Albanians and atm you still cannot deny the linguistic connection between the two dialects. To answer you in short it is much more complicated on what their ethnicity is. It is ridiculous to believe that their language is somewhat of a ‘’Doric Greek language’’ that some may like to claim. I can clearly understand their songs.
I appreciate very much what you are doing, Vassili. You help young people not to forget what had happened to their ancestors. Country without history and memories can not survive. I mean real history and not fake as a lot of countries do, with propaganda, remake of history as their gusto, pressure, abuse of religion, fanaticism. So much pain in almost every song from Asia Minor including Pontos. The Turks think that denying genocides make them free of their responsibility to their history. But it is not the case, the Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians descendants will continue to remember until justice prevails
On this the 22nd Anniversary of my Mother's death.....I discovered you. My Mother Loved The Dance. My Father Loved the Music and I, being their first born daughter....Am a mixture of both.....including The History. You are BRILLIANT, Vasili Mou.

This is great if you’re into dance (which I am) but I thought it would be something more. Specifically it would have benefited from some narration and explanation of the history which, unfortunately, younger people are totally ignorant of.
Thank you very much! Absolutely, but I am just a dancer and through those titles I give the stimulus for any interested individual to do his own research on the matter. I can't present something exclusive historically-wise, but for cultural aspects I'm all about it. :)
Cause there is not an ethnicity with the name :turks. Rumlarswere greek people, that remained Christian or were converted to islam ( usually by force). The last ones, if they dared, after to want to turn back to their Christian communities snd brothers and sisters, they were facing the death penalty, as apostates of islam, as the ottoman law, was till the early 20th century. That’s why, you are told that you are turks, muslims, but something incide if you always tells you that something is wrong.
@@issith7340 Well Justinian converted a lot of people to Christianity by force, it's a well known fact - so I don't know why you mention only that islam did conversions by force. Whole Eastern Roman Empire was converted to Christianity by serious of brutal murders and genocides. Also Christians are foreigners on Balkans as well since they are worshiping Jews, King of Jews so to be precise, and are unrelated to Balkan history and Balkan religions.

In my view(and language),war begins with 2 words: "I want." Unless God and/or Science figures out how to distill greed and acquisitiveness from human nature, and throw it out, there will be dissention, somewhere, some time, small scale to large. And, at the risk of sounding flippant, there have been times I've felt frustrated and have thought that a solution would be to give everybody on earth a frontal lobotomy of the brain.. yes we'd have peace, however, the problem with that would be an apathetic, colorless world where nothing would get done. We can choose to laugh or cry about this man-made mess. Any way we choose to react, we can still be ambassadors of peace by doing what we love and bringing it to others like what Vasilis does here. Beautiful tribute,Vasilis.
@@VasilisDance big fan of your art but I ve been to Egypt and Lebanon which had much worse century than Greece and still don't let sorrow and dépression take over the collective consciousness... I believe that art should be uplifting and inspiring. And the art try to remedy the injuries of the past, still a depressing egyptuan film won the Cane Festival award, so such message have always a place in the industry, but the intro was too dramatic and unhealthy in my opinion. With all the problems and the grievances of the past I would rather be born Greek than turkish or Egyptian..
@@gostavoadolfos2023you can’t imagine the wealth if greek art . What you see here isa tiny trace of greek culture, that extends in countless areas, and time periods. We have a happy part aswell- don’t forget that comedy was also invented in Greece, and we honor that a big way. Mind about your own culture. We are good- thank you.
@@gulumserbinisik918you don’t have any culture, just traces of greek habits that your greek ancestors who forcefully converted to islam, managed to keep. That’s where you are constantly magnified by greek culture. Thought greeks do not like you- don’t want you to be around them/ actually better not to set foot in Greece as turistas or anything alse. We don’t like you, and we have lots of turists from elsewhere, so stay away.
I read what you've explained. It's your (Greek) side of point view. Turkish independence war in 1920s was against ww1 occupational forces and Ottoman empire. We would like to be indépendent, developed country. And today, a vise turkish citizen do not accept any kinds of ignorance, occupation etc. I know, in Turkey there are a lot of antidemocratic régulations right now and it affect turkey's image in international areas . But soon we will be more and more developped...
Thanks for watching. Your sentences have some gaps, though. Independence from whom? Natives? Not talking about Italy or France. Occupation, also? Turkey was founded in 1923, so in 1919 for example, there was the Ottoman Empire, not Republic of Turkey. "Independence War" or a nationalist movement that eliminated native Christian populations? Food for thought. Each nations desire to be independent is applauded. But eliminating or deporting native people for that cause, is a crime. Also, there's not "a Greek point of view" to every thing I mentioned. The Greek genocide, the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the Aegean crisis, vandalism of Orthodox temples etc. are not "a point of view", but a reality. If one claims to be humanitarian and developed, he should refrain from calling realities as "points of view". Thanks again.
@@VasilisDance Greek and Turkish way of percieving history are different from each other. That's why i called point of view. In 1920s Greece was also inside of occupational forces. Ottoman empire also supported the WW1 forces to sustain its' reign. So we, the Anatolian people fought against ottomans, ww1 forces (including Greece). It's like révolution. After that there was an agreement signed between Greece and Turkey "population exchange" In these agreement Turks in today's Greece also moved away from their land. According to your saying Greeks also made crime by taking independence in 1821 from people that have lived with. . We dont like when we were portraited as anti-christians who hates everybody rather than Turks. Because it's not correct. Most of the Turks get this in offensive way. İ just want to share it.
@@elmaarmut8918 I appreciate it and I'm not presenting you as an anti-Christian menace. Most of us are just average people without differences. Think that most of my friends are actually Turkish :) With that said, the population exchange was de-facto religious and not ethnic. Muslims from Greece were not only Turks, some were of course. For example, Cretan Muslims were not ethnically Turkish. Also, with all due respect, in your language you call Greeks as "Ionians" (Yunanlar). It comes from Ionia region, the region around Smyrna (Izmir now). So, you call us as owners of this region in your language, but Greeks being there in WW1 is labeled as "an occupational force that needs deportation"? And this is called "independence war"? Sending away Ionians from Ionia is named "independence" in the Turkish point of view? I'm just trying to find the logic. Ionians being in Ionia makes sense, I think. With that in mind, 1821 independence war cannot be compared with the Turkish one. Greece took independence from Ottoman colonization, from settlers, despite living there as you say. So, demanding the settlers to leave your place is a human right last time I checked.
@@elmaarmut8918 apart from the anti-democratic ties you have remained in the Middle Ages in general.the exchange of populations took place between Muslims and Christians and not Turks and Greeks also the vast majority of Muslims who went to Turkey were of Greek ethnicity as they had been forced to change religion so as not to die.the Greeks and generally the Christians of Anatolia because of their different religion destroyed this category because of their different religion is called GENOCIDE.
@@EAGLE----1 you are blinded with your hate.as i said before we are against any kinds of occupation. We fought with occupiers not the rum people who lived in anatolia. Anatolian people have right to défend itself and set up new republic. Past and present, We dont have an any deal with Christianty unfortunately, Greek narrator of History is based on hatred againsnt Ottomans not other ethnicities but Turks. And Greeks like to associate everything with Christianty. Population exchange made it easy for you. Seeing everything from one-sided percpective leaded you to this position Plus seeing every Muslim Greeks as " survivors of something or threaten to death" is something unrealistic.
You are all welcomed to see, my audience is limitless. ☺️ Historical events are not "a "mentality" though. Sad to witness how people's national pride can be so blind to even deny history.
Leave the sorrow in the past, please... Remembering and reminding again and again only hurts. (Αυτό δεν ωφελεί καθόλου.) Put yourself into our shoes: Catastrophe for you was salvation for us. And don't go after the British imperialists again. I am a descendant of a Turkish family from Drama (like millions of immigrants in Türkiye) who left their homes, farms, everything, taking only what they can carry in their suitcases. "It was also a catastrophe." Love you, Greek friends! ❤
I'm sorry, but if you want us to forget you need to contact your authorities to start reparations for the crimes done to native populations of Anatolia. One example, the 1955 anti-Greek pogrom in Constantinople. Is it fixed? All I see is "Oh yes truly horrible, a night of shame for Turkey". Okay. So? Greek properties haven't been returned, schools and churches haven't been restored or rebuilt. Orthodoxy there lost 80% (!) of its heritage that night. Where is the reparation 67 years later? Nowhere. So, please, don't ask us to forget unpunished crimes. Do you seriously ask to forget the Turkish occupation in northern Cyprus and pretend everything is fine? Also, really? An equality sign between a genocide and leaving your home? Your whole argument is the population exchange. Also, why not going after British or any imperialists? Neocolonial behavior is fine? Seeing your president demanding Greece to "give back Ottoman lands" is ridiculous. Lovely that you are from Drama, but your family leaving it as part of an exchange can never be balanced with a genocide (something you don't recognize anyway). Many questions, I hope I'll see answers. Love you, too. ❤
@@VasilisDance Do you want compensation from the crusaders for occupying and plundering Constantinople? If you want, we can return to the Altai Mountains.
@@vengovoy4606 No, because 1204 is quite different from 1955 for example.... :) Also did I ask reparations from 1453? But 1964! Maybe you should read my message again. Needless to say that the Pope recognized and apologized for what they did to Constantinople. A nice example of generosity and peaceful neighborhood. 😊
