run away to London with me, vol. 1: my last three days in Australia (vlog) 

im so happy seeing people move away and do what they've been wanting to do for so long, gives me an ounce of hope that i can do the same in the future. im hoping the universe would be a lot kinder to me, id live my best life someday.

Imagine if Steph Bohrer, Jack Edwards and you do a collab, that would be the death of me 😭

Dakota, I moved to Norway from Melbourne in 2020. 2 years later, I'm finally truly discovering the deep level of loyalty and love I have for this country, but it was not easy. I remember August 4 2020 when I packed my things into boxes and left them at the top of the stairs. My books, cards. I'm known for being a bit of a hoarder, but at the end it was just- Was that all I was? There in those boxes, they contained the tiny fragments of my identity and it was really hard emotionally. Because of certain experiences, it had to happen, but it was really difficult for a long time. I still haven't gone back to Australia, and they haven't come here. I am 20, and it has been nearly 2 years since I embraced my mother or was held by my father. What I guess I want to say is that it isn't just easy. It is BRUTAL, moving away from everything you know. In many ways, it is a form of trauma- I don't just say that, moving situations so dramatically can be traumatic for your brain to process. I don't want to scare you at all, because in the end it has all been worth it. I could never imagine living in Australia again; I have become so much stronger, I have been forged by the fires of what happened afterwards. I have bought new books, that in essence anchor me to the ground here because it is much harder to leave them somewhere. I have friends. I have "prospects". I love it here. If you ever need to talk about it, if you ever feel sad about it and want to talk to someone about it, please don't hesitate to reach me at my Instagram, sophieeeikli. There is every chance that you won't have the experience I had, and indeed it may be different if you're going to a country where you know the language, but if 3 or 6 or even 12 months pass and you find yourself struggling, know that you're not alone and you haven't made a mistake. i recently moved too, and let me tell you it is brutal, but worth it. it pushed me to discover so many new things and experiences that i wouldn't be able to do back at my homecountry. it was hard and challenging, especially when it came to adapting to school and to my new lifestyle all while speaking another language. but i guess i always knew deep down that i couldn't and wouldn't stay back at my home country forever :): it's bittersweet but it's also lovely, i'll always cherish the feeling. ps: you'll get the chance to visit your hometown again and the experience will be unimaginably weird but lovely at the same time :) sending love!!!

I moved from Melbourne to London in 2018 with a plan of staying 1-2 years! Here I still am 4 years later, with an incredible job i would never get in Aus and enrolled in my Msc at uni here. The most amazing friends! You will love it here! But remember we all go through home sickness and when it happens, it's really really hard. But remember it's worth pushing through. I wish you the best luck!
