I had previously tried running Docker in Windows but all I got was a container filled with tears and regret. Thanks for the tutorial, I managed to get things up and running this time.
Networking on Docker Desktop is apparently somewhat limited. For example, I have to run homebridge in a separate VM rather than running in Windows Docker Desktop.
in pihole's compose you didn't change the host volume. so it will mount the ./etc-pihole directory from windows to /etc/pihole on the container. for 2 days now i am trying to find where the hell this windows directory gets created to no avail. it's not on the wsl2 folders, it's not on %appdata%/local/docker. still i can deploy a container with a host path like that and get no errors
Super useful video. I was on the verge of giving up on docker on windows as i am a noob at this stuff. You have given some good advice to pursue. Thank you!
Always interested when I see things about containers but I've still not figure out a reason to use them in my personal setup. I'm not a dev and don't have a network of clients to manage apps on. Is there a consumer/prosumer uses that folks her use them for?
A great video !!!!!, but in the first process wsl --install, and I have this issue Error code: Wsl/CallMsi/E_ABORT.... what is the main problem here ??
Great at 2:04 w.t did you type there as there are many wsl install arguments and it would have been nice to have seen which one to pick. i can only assume it was --web-download but not sure as the speed you a going at it's all over before you start. Thks for trying but after a few reruns of the vid with no better clue, so off for yet another vid. Such a shame it seems most YT tutorials are made where the screen scrolls in hyperspeed and the tutor moves the mouse around like they have tourettes, why oh why do they do that when viewers need to follow. I must say there are a lot of comments praising here but i would just LOVE to know HOW they saw the first all important command you typed, it's like they did'nt really need the vid to start with else they must be psychic. All the same many thks for you attempts.
docker desktop run image, allows you to create a path in your c:/ drive for a volume, but always fails. The volumes tab of docker desktop, allows you to add a volume name only, but you cannot attach your editor to that path. There is no help to be found on this way of adding volumes. very strange.
You mention you "did the default ubuntu" but not how to do it. So mine does stuff different than yours. Perhaps this is intended for people with more knowledge than me, but throwing up a text bubble with the command would probably help the next person. wsl -s ubuntu
@@RaidOwl Also, it's a useful walkthrough, so thank you for the video! Not used to youtubers responding to 8 month old videos and wasn't even sure you'd see the comment :-)
@@RaidOwli wish i could install & run docker on windows on my external drive I could find a way to syne my android & iphone photos videos & certain folders into my external hard drive
