Word of advice for anyone considering the OG PS4, consider watching some videos about disassembling/cleaning/repasting them if you want to buy one used. These systems are going on a decade old and chances are any system you buy will be considerably dirty and have dried out thermal paste. Caked in dust and dried out thermal paste/pads are why these systems have their jet engine reputation and it's really not difficult to fix. If you spend 20 bucks on top for some good thermal paste and 1.0mm thermal pads, you'll have a nice and quiet console that'll last you a long time. Great video guys!
@@FroggyTWrite Nice, thank you for reminding me, HDDs are super.important to replace too. Like you said makes a difference in menu speeds and loading times
I have PS5 and all I ever played on it is PS4 games. That being said a bunch of them have improvements such as resolution or free radio Chris so that's good
I agree, i jump into a PS5 and sold my PS4 but i feel i could have waited since most games are also still on PS4 and the jump in graphics has not been that impressive yet.. i am sure later it will be worth it, maybe once the console gets cheaper..
The best thing about ps5 isn't necessarily the graphics- even though games can look better...but because it runs games at 60 fps that the ps4 pro can't
I wish I still had my launch PS4. The HDMI port broke and I took it to a place and they said they couldn't fix it. In the years since I've learned how to fix my own electronics, but I threw away a perfectly fixable console over something pretty small.
Well the thing about the PS5 is that yes they have started doing limited editions as the Spider-Man one has just been released but with the easily changeable face plates, the limited editions are not so special when they also sell those face plates separately. Even the controller was sold separately so really the only thing that makes this version more valuable if you try to resell is the box it comes in. This is probably why they have not done as many limited editions this time out, but they still do them.
I bought it only because those scumbag scalpers made it impossible to buy the plates. They ignored the controllers. Im not selling it til ps6 comes out
I bought a brand new unopened launch model PS4 in 2019 for about $250 and was hyped as f..k to add it to my collection. I now have a decent size collection of new and used limited edition PS3, PS4, and PS4 pro consoles. ❤
PS4 is an excellent option to get into budget gaming, and load times can be cut by about 50% when upgrading to an SSD (doing this helped tremendously with Crash Bandicoot 4, for example). However, I think if you can, you should save up for a disc PS5 to play the PS4 games at even faster loading times, also in many cases devs have patched their games to run at higher framerates. If you can get a great deal on a PS4, definitely go for it.
I disagree. PlayStation doesn’t have smart delivery. Meaning if you want the ps5 version. You have to buy the ps5 version. But don’t shoot me for saying something negative about PlayStation here. It’s just the reality I wish was better.
@ForTheViolence was like that in the beginning. Most games now you get both ps4 and ps5 versions if you buy digital. Used to always install the ps4 version too by default but it's a lot better now
@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Yes and no. PS4 Pro has the parts to support an SSD, but it won't be at the level of a Gen4 M.2 SSD. The standard PS4 does still show some improvements. It's much better to wait 30 seconds on Crash 4 than over a minute like on a mechanical drive. There's improvement in Psychonauts 2 as well.
Awesome video and great guide!! I fell out of gaming during the PS3 era and jumped back in when the PS5 came out so I am now still catching up on all the great PS4 titles I missed. Having access to so many free ones on PS Plus/Extra feels like it was made just for people my age who have kids past the toddler stage and have more time for hobbies again, hah! You and Ryan have a great dynamic and I enjoyed watching you guys present this. Thank you!
I got 2 PS5’s one digital and one Digital and I still kept my PS4 slim and it’s still hooked up, I’m not planning on selling it or giving it away. Just in case something happens to my ps5 I’ll still have my PS4.
My recommendation to anyone looking to get a PS4. Get the third revision of the PS4 Pro. You will find the starting at $120 up, but definitely worth it. Model number 7215B. Put a 4tb ssd in it, learn how to clean and apply new thermal pads and paste. Plenty of RU-vid tutorials to watch. It runs whisper quiet when playing from the ssd.
I got a PS4 in November 2019 - great investment, got a deal for the holidays that included Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War, and The Last of Us Remake included. The only game I have spent more than $20 on is Death Stranding for $30 in early 2020 (the pandemic inspired me to play it). If you're open to nonphysical games, PS Deals is great for tracking sales, and Google Shopping is great for finding good deals on physical games. Also, niche item, but the PS4 is great for language learning - most American first party games have full subtitles and dubs in Portuguese, Spanish, and French, with some even having other languages on top of that. I played God of War, The Last of Us 1 and 2, all the Uncharted games, Ghost of Tsushima, etc., all in Brazilian Portuguese. Some will even let you mix and match languages (English subtitles, dubbed in another language), which is great for language learning. Buying a big game like Horizon: Zero Dawn for cheap is one of the lowest cost ways to get tens of hours of content in a foreign language.
I just bought a PS4 and I'm impressed on how well the games look and how affordable they are. I was going to skip that generation but I notice how cheap the games were compared to the PS5. Games are so much more enjoyable when you can afford them.
If someone is getting a PS4 to use as opposed to collecting I suggest the PS4 Pro. I didn't think there was much of a difference back when it launched but the newer games that were released do run better on a Pro. You don't need to bother upgrading the drive if you don't want to, you can just add a USB HDD or SSD. Lastly FYI Gamestop has PSVR and the cameras for cheap!
I bought both in 2020, the first model and the pro model. The reason why I bought the first model was because of the design and how it looked similar to the PS2 slim.
I’ve been going back and forth whether or not to get a PS5 but honestly aside from maybe 1 or 2 titles exclusive on the PS5, I can still have a huge game library to play on my PS4 Pro. Plus I do have the Spiderman edition PS4 Pro!
Ever since was young, I always bought 2 systems, one at beginning, and one at the end of life cycle as a backup... So now I have a PS4 Slim, and a PS5 as like a legacy backup... Nothing is worse than having a huge phyiscal collection and the system craps out... Never had it happen yet, since I always maintain and clean mine and all of my 3 daughter's systems... But you can never be too careful with electronics... 👍
So, I am watching this in February 2024. The PS5 Slim has dropped for a couple months now, and I am looking really hard at one. I don't have a PS4, and hesitated when they first came out because I questioned Sony's quality after my PS3 fat crapped out. Obviously, backwards compatibility was a big deal for me, and I lost that when I had to replace my PS3 with a Super Slim. PS5 is attractive to me for this reason, and after researching some of the hardware improvements, and their improved cooling, I am drawn even more to it. I know there's still not many PS5 exclusives, so that's a knock on it, but I'd like the opinion of others; is the extra expense for a PS5 over a PS4 worth it?
Had 2 ps4's and got a Pro on Launch. The Pro was a fantastic upgrade! Got a ps5 and the difference is night and day, obviously. But the Pro still holds up if youre looking for a budget gaming console today. You cant play the ps5 exclusives, but the backlog of ps4/ps3 games is huge!
I love the PlayStation. I have every single console the PS1. The PS1 & PS2 are just prestige now. I’m glad I have mine for nostalgia and prestige. The PS2 was the best selling console of all time. The PS3 is a gem that represented a great era of gaming history. The PS4 & PS5 are stunning consoles for the application they can use. I just wanna leave a nice remark tonight. I’m playing Death Stranding Director’s Cut right now. Me and brother actually have a silly hobby, we’re collecting the different PS models. It’s been to get them too, it’s like a little museum we have all the different console editions. I love the gold PS4 and PS4 TLOU 2 edition, the spider man one is so dope!
My first PS experience, i baught my own system, it was a bundle with street fighter ex and DYNASTY WARRIORS. I loved dynasty warriors I played it for hours
maybe your video arrived too late haha... i had that question a few months ago, now i have the ps5, its my first personal ps and i dont kinda regret my decision between getting the ps4 or ps5, i just start playing some exclusives for the first time since i was an xbox guy from the beginning... i play mostly days gone and i read that that game runs at 30 fps in ps4, and in the ps5 they added a patch to run it at 60 fps, I didn't know about this since i start playing it directly on the ps5 ... my humble opinion is that that game looks fenomenal to this date and I couldn't go back in fps or graphics, and fortunely i could grab an oled tv so 30 fps looks so weird and laggy, i tried with different games at 30 but this actual oled tech, vrr, fast input lag shows every minute detail ... aaand the dual sense controller... that controller is the future of gaming... those are the reasons why i choose to keep the ps5, what i would want so much of the ps4 are the dinamic themes, i hope that one day sony bring them back but i dont know what to think of this company, im kind new to their products... what i much probably gonna end up buying is a ps3 to play the old / retro exclusive games for ps... great video btw, cheers !
Was going to list my Spiderman PS4 Pro with controller the other day and I was shocked to see how many are available and how low the asking price is. Boxed mine back up and decided to revisit selling it in 10 yrs.
I’m 31 so maybe my first PlayStation memory is “late” to other people but mine is Space Jam lol I was in first grade and my parents brought home a Ps1 with Space Jam and Need For Speed. So those were my first games at 6 years old.
I got my original Playstation with Ridge Racer, 6 days before it released and the only one that was in the country that had the first 50 run before making minor changes to the released model. Was supposed to be a store display.
It’s 2023 I know the ps4 is 10 years old but it’s my other dream console next to the switch which I have. I love the Xbox one too I played on it at my family house back in July and I had a blast on it, one thing was missing was forza but other then that it was fun.
Love this episode . First I’ve watched from your channel. I have a ps4 pro. What’s the best SSD external hard drive to download and play games from? Any brands of specific models you recommend?
My ps4 crapped out and it was because of overheating! The older systems were not built correctly and that’s why they overheat. Granted it did last a long time, and warning signs are that it is incredibly loud when running a triple a game. The pro is much more quiet. And better running system definitely.
thanks I did buy one but I didn't run lol 😉 the white PS4 Pro that was packaged with Destiny 2. CIB and very clean and bundled with new copies of Resident Evil 2 and Village. about $300 for everything and it's exactly what I wanted in 2023 🙂 besides that I put in a 2TB SSD which really improves the overall performance of a PS4
They still have them brand new at walmart I’m my area. I was Gona buy one and I went to a flea market and got a Prestine looking ps4 pro with controller for 14$ bucks. I know I know sounds crazy but it happens when I was leaving. I traded my one I had in to get the ps5 because of GameStops mandatory bundles for 800$ bucks fml luckily I kept the box and all the stuff. But I think I’m Gona get a new just because
PS2 was the goat but PS4 i think will be the most memorable kinda of like how switch will be the best but the gamecube/wii will be the most memorable ps3 meh that grill aint worth anyones time
I still got my ps4 which i bought in 2013 on launch day i loved it but now I've moved on to the ps5 which i love even better than my ps4 i will still have soft spot for my ps4 as it got me though lockdown but it's time to move on
Like is there any reason to get a PS4 over a PS5 if you have a disc based PS5 already? I mean collecting PS4 games? Sure. But I can install and play games on PS5 offline even PS4 games.
Ok i just ran into your video can you mention the last of us, Consol, limited edition I do believe you said now I have a chance to pick up on one and it’s fully complete but he wants $500 for it my question is, is it too much or is that like the sweet spot or just let it go
I'm 55 years old so I consider myself an OG of video games going all the way back to the 80s when ATARI was around. This was a great review and I look forward to more content from this channel.
I was born in 1981 and my uncle 1970. I remember playing on his Coleco vision in his room from there I got Nintendo and Super Nintendo. After giving it a break I picked up a Sega Saturn and then a huge gap until PS3. I still have PS3 and PS4 PRO and I love them both!
I’m a 1970 model, myself, and I AM an OG! Original Gamer! I still have my Atari console with games! My main console at the moment is an Xbox one X, but I just acquired a PS4 Pro for $150 because I want to replace the hard drive with a 2 TB SSD. My wife said “Don’t you already have a PS4?” And I said “But it ain’t a Pro !” 😂 I switched to X box just before cross platform became a thing and I missed my Gran Turismo. PlayStation has way more games than Xbox, and their racers are better, in my opinion, than what Xbox has to offer. But does anybody know if there’s a PlayStation controller out there that is set up like an Xbox controller because PlayStation has the D-pad in the wrong spot!
lol I was just a watching RU-vidr complaining about how bad call of duty has become. I couldnt believe all the little things he was bitching about. I suggested he try the games I started with. My first video game. PONG. Then of course Atari 2600. The kids these days so spoiled
Yes, getting a PS4 Pro at a Goodwill is a rare occurrence, but that is exactly where I got mine. I paid $82 for it, untested, and figured I could make my money back in parts if it was shot. It turned out its hdd was borked, and I just happened to have a Best Buy gift card burning a hole in my wallet, so I put in a new drive, installed the OS via USB thumb drive, and my Pro was up and running! I still haven't jumped to PS5 because, frankly, there aren't a lot of games in its library I am interested in playing, and my PS4 backlog is still very deep.
@Mohammed_BigBoss I do want to own a PS5 at some point and may jump in once the announced slim model hits the market. As for 60 fps, I am not really hung up on envelope pushing graphical performance. My TV is only 1080p anyway, so a lot of that is lost on me anyway.
I got my ps4 for $199 in E Dec 2017. I usually like to be patient since I can wait. I am still enjoying it alot. Will probably keep playing it until ps5 drops to $250-300
I was late to the ps4 life cycle, I bought my first one in 2018 shortly before the announcement of ps5. That was the console that got me back into gaming after a long hiatus. I traded it in to gamestop to make my ps5 cheaper. If I bought another ps4 just for collector sake, I would get the blue days of play variant and display it proudly.
Are you me? lol I had a ps1 and ps2 but during the ps3, ps4 and ps5 I was sooooo late to the party because of money problems and health treatment. In 2018 I got my ps4 but here in Brazil a ps5 costs like 3 minimum wages so only last year I got some money so I traded in my ps4 ion a local gaming store and gave the rets of the money to finally get a ps5. I will not be late to the party during the ps6 era. Already saving money and taking care of my ps5 so I can trade it. Although I love having everything and seeing collections, I usually go full digital because of space. I don't like seein that much space filled with things when one day I might move to a new house and have to reallocate everything is pain.
@@rafaelgalindo4794 2018? I got my PS4 the summer of 2020. I was saving up for a PS5, but the pandemic was raging at the time, and I didn't even know if the world would even still BE here by the time it launched, so I decided to get PS4 in the meantime. lol Gamestop was selling them used for $249, but they said they were all out. Again, with so much uncertainty at the time, I NEEDED to come home with something, so I went to a smaller local store. Dude said he had just 1 PS4 left (probably a lie) and it would cost $408 O_O That's right. I paid 400 bucks for a BASE PS4 mere months before the PS5 dropped....and I don't eve regret it lol I LOVE my PS4.
@@rafaelgalindo4794 The ps5 was so expensive at gamestop when I bought mine. I bought it in 2021 and the bundle came with 3 games, a charging dock, an extra controller and they make you buy a gift card to get you to come back for more. It was worth it but if it wasn't for that high price (almost a grand) I would have kept my ps4 just to collect it. I like collecting more than you do it sounds like but I know what you mean on the hassle of moving. I'm in an apartment right now and I wanna sign another lease just cuz the thought of moving kills me.
Fun video! I sold my PS5 to pay the bills and bought a like new PS4 Pro for 100 bucks off of FB Marketplace. It’s pretty quiet, too. Graphically there’s still hardly any difference in games-nothing like we’ve seen from previous console generations. Sometimes I miss the increased performance in certain games, but considering the price difference it’s something I can live with for now.
Man, if it was somehow possible for You, MJR, & Mark from CGR to somehow do a collab, that'd be an amazing video! You're all great content creators who genuinely understand gaming. Awesome video dude!
Mystic is my favourite RU-vidr! Pretty awesome that you got him on your channel! Great discussion video, in my opinion with backwards compatibility being a thing for PS5 I see no reason to buy a PS4 at all right now other than price. Even then just hold out and save to buy a PS5. Better hardware to run and load those games and you can play two generations worth of PS games to boot.
If you're on the US, sure, but for a lot of third world countries, the ps5 can costs almost as much as a car, so having the PS4 as a good option is goes a long way.
This exactly. As long as you somehow afford it, it’s absolutely worth every penny. PS4 Games run so much better on the 5. And once the PS5 Games drop in price, you can get them very cheap too. Some games sell for $9 and they are totally worth waiting for!
I regretted that I sold my PSone console back in early 2000 just to get a PS2. My life was hard back at that time. I could finally find a steady job in 2010, but it was hard again with hitting higher prices of PS1 games. I decided to reclaim my memories with PS1 & some PS2 games from PS3 in its PSN store.
I know this feeling all too well. Back in 2010 i had to sell all my old systems including a Dreamcast and a gamecube with the gameboy player. For the last 3 years i have regained every system i ever had as a kid including an original nes, snes, n64, dreamcast and finally a gamecube with the gameboy player. 3 years of collecting and i now have 14 systems and over 200 games. Congrats on finding a better job btw
Just wanted to add, I was hardcore Xbox from 2005-2017. I had the PS1 and PS2 then jumped ship to Xbox. I missed out on the entire PS3 era. I got my PS4 pro in late 2017 now I have the PS5. I jump back and forth with PS4 and PS5. Love them both!
Honestly, I have no need for a PS4 rn…..I bought a fat PS2 for like $115 two months ago and I enjoy it so much that I don’t even want the PS5 anymore 😂
I bought a PS3 back in 2007 and recently started playing games on it. It’s amazing. No need for a nExT gEn cOnSoLe because if I haven’t played it, it’s new to me!
Bro the ps5 can play multiple games at the same time, what I mean is u don't have to close the application an the controller fights u in certain games, it's an experience u need to see for yourself, the graphics is 💯% with Ray tracing
PS4 is my favorite Playstation console ever and its still holding up to this day and now im trying to enjoy my PS4 to this day before it gets really old.
Fun discussion! I am still rocking my PS4 slim that I bought brand new during the Black Friday sales of 2019 for $250 Canadian plus tax, and it came with three games. Solid system with my only real complaint being the slow hard drive (which I know can be easily remedied). It just got a system update very recently too.
I am in the same boat . I have a PS4 slim that I bought 5 years ago and is still running fine . Also I have a brand new PS4 slim still in the box that is a backup just in case .
I bought my slim around the same time. It came with Spiderman, the last of us, and a digital copy of one of the horizon games. I've only played the last of us 1 and 2 and GTA5. I also have Red Dead Redemption 2 but haven't played it. Part 1 was probably my favorite ps3 game. I bought a ps5 a few months ago but haven't played anything on it. I keep buying stuff just so I can feel like I'm still a part of the gaming community, but life has been too busy the last 10 years. I still have my fat ps3 which I played like crazy at the time. Thing sounds like a lawn mower.
@@deepg7084 cool . I bought it cause it was on sale at the time 199$ can go wrong and in the PlayStation the game like the most is the gran turismo . I mostly been on Xbox since the ps3 and Xbox 360 days had lots of fun at the time on Xbox never got the chance to get a backwards compatible ps3 was too expensive Xbox was cheaper to get lot of gamer I knew recommend Xbox so I gave it a try and liked it . Been on Xbox since got the Xbox one after that then the Xbox series x . But like you I have been to busy in the last few years that I can’t really play like before just get it to be part of the gaming community. Last console I got was the switch I like the thing also but don’t have the time to play it also . Maybe in a few years when I retire hopefully I can enjoy all the games I haven’t played. Like the resident evil series last one I played was 4 . GTA Red dead redemption fallout lot of good stuff I haven’t played completely. Cheers 🍻 bro happy gaming 😁😁🍻👍👍🥃
Playing my PS4 Pro that I aquired late due to studies and economic reasons, but love the system and have a fine library of games for it and I'm not into any need to buy myself a PS5 as the PS4 PRO is just as ood and have a great library of games and I'm like 100+ titles behind in my backlog of good games to play yet.
As a person who is a newer member of the PlayStation community I got a used ps4 slim for $200 it hads 750 gigabytes, 2 controllers, and 3 games. I don’t want to spend over $500 on a new console for a ecosystem I wanted to just dip my toe into. But I have now fully transitioning from Xbox to PlayStation this is definitely a great pick up and I would definitely recommend this system.
I learned to make sure i buy extra controllers for whatever system i have. If you have kids, you are gonna lose a few to wear and tear. Don’t be afraid to grab an extra one to keep in closet for later.
@@shaomari1 I would actually recommend looking at how you can fix the controllers yourself or find a tech repair shop that can to. In my area there is a game shop that has so many spare ps4 controllers and i am going to learn how to clean the controller and replace parts so i am not reliant on Sony. But yeah you can never have to many spare controllers.
