Runecrafter - An Original Animatic (Pilot)

So this has been a long time in the works! It's basically an experiment to see if I could create an entire 'show' for the web using my animatic method for videos, plus SFX, music etc. I find online to accompany it with. In the end, the result was okay, but I think it's probably too much work to do for a regular series. Even so, I'm uploading it as proof of concept.
I may tackle Runecrafter as a comic instead (much more in my wheelhouse), so if this video interests you, keep an eye out for more in webcomic form later on!
Next video will most likely be a new Critical Role animatic - watch this space.

Subscribed after watching your Critical Role animatics hoping to see more original work, and I’m glad that decision was rewarded. I love how angular the character designs are, especially with the homogeneity of the overly rounded style that’s in vogue right now. Expert composition in the action scenes, too.

As amazing as this is, there is just one thing I really dislike: there is no entire series for me to check out after the pilot, which is awful considering how awesome this is!

I love this so much! I'm upset that RU-vid didn't notify me that you posted the episode. If I didn't come back to re-watch the Critical Roll animatics, I wouldn't know you made anything new.

Love this! If I could respectfully offer an opinion... with it being said that I overall Love it.. The animatic esp the action are top notch.. and I love the world and vibe. Some of the audio could use a little more "character" to distinguish the voices. They dont need to be over the too cartoonish.. but maybe a touch less naturalistic would help sell it. Maybe pitched up a bit or something.. to sell them as mice. To the same end.. creating more distinct VO, maybe close micing the characters and using reverb or IRs for the acoustic environment.. rather than the mid mic naturalistic dry thing u got here. It would help sell the performances... cause it has so much potential if the audio was a top notch as the animatic ! My guess is this is a passion thing and the audio was never meant to be super polished... so you prob already know this It's really great and I'd love to see more! Bravo!

Yeah, I'm afraid I don't have much knowledge when it comes to any of that audio stuff. All I had was my own dumb voice, a standard mic I've had for a couple of years, a pop filter and Audacity for editing 😅 I didn't really like how the audio came out, one of the main reasons I most likely won't continue and will go back to using pre-made audio. Thanks for the constructive criticism!

@@ragdolltwisty well it's a great start and you can do alot with the plugins in garage band or freeware... might be worth checking out! Experiment! I'm sure you'll develop a great style there as well. Overall really loved it! Will check back often.. subscribed!

It felt a bit lacky here and there on the background sounds, like chatter, or some of the interactions. But I'm here for it to see where this goes!

I know this is the comment all animatic vids have on them, but can I ask what program you use for animatics?

Sure! I do all my art in Clip Studio Paint, save the images from there and then put them together in a crappy freeware editing software called Openshot.

@@ragdolltwisty I see! Thank you! The quality made me think you used a storyboarding software, but this is even more impressive! Do you make each frame on one clip studio file or do you use multiple?

@@bealns7356 I believe I used 2 clip studio files, with half the frames in one and half in the other - purely because each frame was two layers (one for the sketch, one for the inks) and it starts to slow down the program when there's that many of them in one file. At least on my PC. When I do comics, I have a clip file for each panel, though, since those require colours and things as well
