To Runic: I very much loved your creation. The love you stuffed into it shines through. Thanks for a real game, designed to be loved by the player. Of course, for that you must be punished - and Perfect World did that well. Kill the idealist! Gaming is about MMO and monthly recurring revenue!!!! ANYHOW..... thanks for one of the best games I have ever played. I wish I could wait for the next version to come out.

I've been playing through the Torchlight series a decade later. It breaks my heart that Runic shut down but the love and care they put into their games will last forever.

So I am quite late to the world of hob but I can tell you it feels as satisfying as child of light. That game was discovered by accident and now hob. I find it to be enchanting and incredibly visceral. It hits me deep for some reason. I cannot wait to play more. Games like these remind me of why I continue to play video games and I am now 37. 2 kids and cannot wait for their futures!

After playing Diablo 2 for the 50th time, I picked up Torchlight. It was a breath of fresh air. I couldn't stop smiling. After Diablo III came out, I'd immediately dropped it for Torchlight 2. I just got my PC set up again and am looking forward to playing hob. You guys did something amazing.

Man, I'm gonna miss these guys.

HOB looks great guys BUT Torchlight III PLEASEEEEEEEE!

Hob was creative and I liked it but it wasn’t a finished product ready to be released on PS4. Major major frame rate issues and game crashing.

Oh how I wished we had Hob 2. I've been replaying it and I like it a lot but I see so much room for improvement and a sequel would be amazing

We would need more teams like Runic, teams that don't make games for the sake of profit and to satisfy the current trends but for their desire to create something new and share their creativity with the world.

You guys captured my heart with Torchlight 2. Its my comfort game and I love it to bits. I'm also super excited for Hob. Been patiently waiting for it since I first saw it last year and I couldn't be more happy with the all the love and care you guys have been putting into it. Can't wait for to experience it!

Im playing Hob on my switch (docked and on a projector) its so great! So beautiful and fun. The world Runic created is so amazing and a wonder to wander around in. Thanks Runic for such an fantastic game

HOB is the most I’ve enjoyed a new game in a very long time. Everything from the world, to the sound design is great.

The numbers don't add up, how can a great studio make a CLASSIC series of TL and then not be able to survive ._. I haven't done deep research but i do have suspicions toward having an amicable separation with the former employer of all the Runic staff. Tremendous talent ._. I hope it turns around and Runic can bust out an amazing title! Love you guys

These American dev companies need to take notes from the Japanese masters of storytelling in video games. Legend of zelda, legend of dragoon, golden sun, dark cloud. These games are timeless masterpieces! Edit: can't forget GRANDIA 2!

Thank you for this documentary! Watching this in late 2022 after only recently playing through Hob (finally!) it really reaffirms my feelings that the end of runic games was/is such a big loss for the industry.

I got hob a while back because of the art and I love that. I loved that the story is up to the players interpretation at the end. That’s just beautiful.

I am 1.5 hours into HoB and I am totally in love with it already. After a weekend away I can't wait to get back to it tonight/this week. It definitely has that old school LoZ feel with a very cool modern twist which I love. I hope the game doesn't go too quickly and I hope the team is already working on an expansion or a sequel because I can already tell it's a game series I'd love to continue playing!

I signed into RU-vid JUST to comment on how awesome Runic is! So glad I found this video (via Steam), it's great to know more about the developer and how much work you put into the games. My friends and I have played Torchlight (+Fate) in the past, and been playing Torchlight 2 a bunch recently. So well done, the pet mechanic is always fun especially in multiplayer, and thank you for allowing mod support!! You all are awesome, I never knew how much work went into TL and TL2's making. The work that went into it totally shows in the awesomeness of the game. Thank you for sharing your story!

Really excited for HoB, but hoping that you reconsider the Torchlight MMO when you've had a sufficient break from it. Or at least Torchlight 3 some day. Also, shout out to Runic Games for being an awesome and helpful company. I lost my ability to play Torchlight 1 awhile back, sent Customer Service an email letting them know about my unique situation along with my old Torchlight 1 receipt and they sent me a steam code in less than a hour. Just an all around great company. Thanks guys!

I literally went through those levels rn lol. Awesome game. Reminds me of old cartoons like tom and jerry and its really rare because its so much babbling and redundant narratives in games nowadays. Just shut up and play the game.

The cofounder was not in the interview... weird.... and now Runic is shutdown and Travis made another studio to build a game there ex publisher wantes obline game as a service which sucks as an idea of not been able to play something i paid... because someone turnoff the servers... hmmm i wonder why they keep on doing things that are doomed to fail? always online sucks. end of story.

As a novice Hob speedrunner, it's very cool to hear the story of the team that created it! Especially inspiring is the speedrun board at 22:43 (for what I assume is an earlier build of the game). Other highlights include the dog and the upside down Scott Pilgrim set in the interview room. Really though a great documentary about a great team, thanks for this.

I worry a little about Hob because you guys seem to have trouble explaining what it is. Your art style and gameplay is unmistakable, however. I knew the video after this was a Runic Game, even before I realized it was Hob.

Great work on the "gameumentary." Cool to watch. I always thought I wanted to work at Runic (big fan of the Torchlight games) - Watching this however proved to me (surprisingly) that I wouldn't be a good fit within the company structure. I like the iterative prototype process that they mentioned they use in initial development - but like most people I've come across in the industry - the team members seem somewhat dogmatically ego driven. I'm glad I'm not in the "professional" video game industry anymore. Likewise, the people still in it are probably glad I'm not either. lol.

Torchlight became one of my best & favorite games I always like to re-play or stick with a character. I'm honest I also played Diablo 3 but it lost my interest so quickly and became boring and monotonous. And here comes Torchlight 2, a true masterpiece of Hack&Slash RPG games. However your new Game Hob doesn't really interest me that much because it isn't that kind of a RPG as Torchlight is, but I might give it a try because I love the company because of Torchlight ... Yeah I'm talking alot of Torchlight so let's take it short: I honestly am looking for Torchlight 3. If that can be a thing and can be as good/successful as Torchlight 2 would be another big Highlight in my life. I always liked to share Torchlight 2 with my friends and they didn't regret it at all trying this game and thats what I want to do with Torchlight 3 as well, enjoy playing Hack&Slash RPGs, alone and multiplayer as well. I hope really much Torchlight 3 can become true, I love you guys!

Schafer brothers are _that_ afraid to speak publicly, huh? They're (were) the HEADS of this studio, yet they're nowhere to be seen in the video. Somehow I knew they won't be able to speak even before watching this vid.

I've been a member of the Runic Games community since October of 2009 when I first signed up on their forum. At first I went there because I loved their game and had played both Fate and the Diablo series but I ended up staying because of the people. Runic don't just make great games. They're great people. Throughout the entire time I've been part of the community they've not only been kind to me they've taken plenty of my suggestions seriously. Not just mine-when they were making Torchlight II they listened to EVERYONE. Not all the suggestions made it into the game but they were always grateful. If anything the only main drawback to how appreciative they are for their community is that sometimes they try a little too hard to please. Still-I'd rather forgive them for minor game issues than criticize them for them when overall the game ends up being better for their having been open minded towards how their community feels about something. More than anything they're decent people. Every single developer I've interacted with (and I've interacted with more than a few of them-some of them have even become friends) has been more than kind to me. This team has been through a lot but despite a lot of the adversity they've faced they've put their hearts into giving gamers two amazing games to play. I'm so looking forward to seeing what they're going to give us with HoB. Just from what I've seen it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. In fact I'm calling it right now-I believe heart and soul that HoB is going to be memorable in the same way as the games that inspired it. I have a good feeling it will stand the test of time in much the same way as games like Shadow of the Colossus and Ico have. Thank you to everyone who worked on this doc and to Runic Games for all the amazing memories you've given me.
