I’ve been watching your running shoes reviews for awhile now and my girlfriend ran Chicago this year….I saw you pass by at mile 13 and yelled your name like some groupie! What a great trip to Chicago, an amazing city. Love your videos, keep up the good work.
Somehow these Runner’s Weekend videos are so beautifully done that it’s more than a cliche to say it’s the next best thing to being there-which I keep saying😂! In a way it’s even better because if we were there in person, we probably wouldn’t be able to get to every single one of those venues and events, and certainly not without you. Also, like everyone else, I appreciate the context addendum about “YourRunningBuddy”! It’s like a fairy tale ending, but not an ending. Always more to come.
It was great seeing you again Mike and thanks for the organizing the great shakeout run + post run pizza. Was hoping to run along side you like last year but glad that you stuck by your friend who helped you start it all. After watching your videos for so many years and studying all your shoe reviews, I just wanted to report that I finally managed to sub 3 for the first time after training for the past 4 years! Thanks for being such a great inspiration to the running community and will cheer you on at NYCM! … Hope you do another shakeout run in NYC.
yes!! great job on the sub 3! we'll have a shakeout for NYC. I'll be at the BITR event on Saturday, but I'm also planning a smaller shakeout for Friday afternoon
Hey Kofuzi, thank you for this video. I’m in the middle of my first marathon training and somewhere along the last 2 weeks I lost a little motivation. This video sparked that again in me. The inspiration and motivation this video gave me, well I just want to say thank you for that. - Stephanie J.
Great story, I watched your race video and thought, that running is just pure fun without pressure of a time in mind. One of your best stories so far, thx a lot for sharing 😊
My wife and I just ran Chicago and all of your videos helped us get prepared for it. We both PR'ed and loved the race and the city. Will be cheering you on at the nyc marathon!
This runner’s weekend was fabulous, just like the others!! Especially loved your shoutout to your running buddy….where would we be without those who matter the most.
That’s me!! 😱 Great to meet you. Real shame to miss the run, pizza and t-shirts (can you sell them?!) as I’d already done the Abbott 5k. Videos over the weekend have been superb and gave the perfect overview of running the Chicago marathon!
wow i didnt notice that this video has some context at the end.. i thought its all about the fan club.. until i have continue watching.. had to stop before coz of working office time, youtube is blocked.. running is really ❤❤❤ ... congrats to you and your buddy..
This really makes me homesick. I spent 19 years living and running (and filming races) in Chicago. I miss Fleet Feet, the marathon… and Potbelly subs! I wish I’d met you before I moved to LA.
awesome video. Was wondering about the guy you ran with. Thought he was the lucky subscriber to have you as his pace maker. Now I see he's the one who borught into this running world :)
Great recap Ko and thank you for sharing your story and how you restarted your run journey and it was all about your run buddy bringing you along and repaying him back in running Chicago with him this year stride for stride 🤜🤛
I ran the 22 Chicago marathon last week and WOW! That was my first marathon ever so the bar has been set high. Can’t wait to run it again in the future. I have NYC in a few weeks too!
So cool. Making me even more excited for the Marine Corps marathon in 2 weeks.....which hasn't taken place live since 2019! I'm undertrained since Covid got me back in August....plan to just walk as much as I need to and finish.
Great video! I ran a 3:23 and am going to start working on a BQ time. I saw the C Lake sign at your Metra stop. I live right down the line in Cary. If your open to log some miles some time let me know.
Wow, great story about you and your friend, that gave me chills! I wish I would have made the Shakeout run but I didn't know the details lol. Hopefully there will be a Shakeout in Tokyo!
Another superb vlog, capturing the essence of a city marathon. Do you think you'll ever come over to Sydney ? Maybe tap up Edd Goddard in the process 🤙🏼
Lol, I found out about you about six months ago, and thought "Oh, hey! If he can manage to raise kids and do all this training in the city, so can I!" And then you moved out to the suburbs... xD
@@kofuzi I hear ya. My wife is a city worker, so we're going to be lifers, but I wish I had more natural outdoors and my daughter is 2 and I'm already thinking about cps enrollment tests...
Stellar weekend for my first Chicago Marathon. I had no idea that Fleet Feet was adding custom screens to their Rabbit merchandise. Hope to see you at another race.
You do a great job of telling your story in your videos along with the audio as usual. Great job! I think you may be able to make good Hollywood movies if you decide to switch career.
I know the Banh is supposed to sound very much like the Korean word for bread, bbang, but with an upward inflection, and that the mi is supposed to have a downward inflection, but I think it would be condescending if I tried to say food words authentically, since I do not speak any other words in the language. Similarly, I never try to say carne asada with an authentic accent. I know I'm saying it an American way, but I try to balance recognizing the culture from which a food comes and not trying to pretend that I am a speaker of the language
Mike, I’m with you on that fine balance between coming across pretentious and respecting the correct pronunciation. It depends who I’m talking to. I generally just try to get the vowel sound close to right if it’s a language I don’t otherwise know so that I’m honoring the right pronunciation more rather than less (eg., having learned that “pho” is pronounced “phueh”-don’t even know how to write that!) , vs. when I’m speaking English to a native Spanish speaker (a language I do speak) but I enjoy using my good Spanish accent and know it doesn’t sound pretentious to them. I think it’s analogous to the way I tend to adjust my personality to some extent with different people by being sensitive to what makes them comfortable with me.
so much fun. in order to test whether we could really run the whole distance in costume, we ran all over the 606 trail in it too. it was a lot of fun. these days, they make replica jackets from the base on Hoth. I've been thinking there's got to be a way to follow up on the winter costume race
Waaaiiitt!! Is that me?? Thank you for making my first World Marathon Major and my 50th birthday a memorable one. What a weekend that is. I thank you also for the impact of all your videos to the running community 🤙🏼 🍻🍕
This was my first Chicago Marathon and my first time at one of your shakeout runs! It was amazing. This weekend felt like a dream. I met so many awesome people at Lou's who had so many interesting running stories and I also got to reconnect with friends who I met at the BITR Boston Marathon run earlier this year. It felt like one big party/reunion! Thanks for all that you do and helping make my marathon weekend experience so great!
Very impressed Ko! You are puttin in the work. All the way around. You give so much to the running community and they/we absolutely love you for it. Keep killin it. Thank you!
I visited Chicago about 4 years ago. It's such a great town from the people to the architecture, and the waterfront. Looks like you had a fantastic weekend revisiting your hometown.
I currently struggle with health dissatisfaction, obesity, low energy levels, and a general sadness about my life circumstances. Despite all that, I am starting my running routine tomorrow morning. Your videos inspired me to do something I never thought I'd want to do. Run, for fun. Thank you 💜
Really enjoyed your video. Your story is similar to mine. I too had health issues before getting into running and now I have ran 9 marathons. I'm going for my 10th in Indy.
Love these behind the scenes adventures! So much fun and excitement in the orbit around such a major event as the marathon. Cool to hang with your buddy and catch up.... That's what it's really all about! Keep pushing Mike!
On the finish line of the 2015 Berlin marathon I met Otto and Michael from Chicago and from that moment a friendship was forged that will last a lifetime. This year finally I made it to this amazing city to see and stay with my friends again and run this incredible race. There were times during the race where I felt the crowds were carrying me personally around the course such was the love. Thank you my friends and thank you Chicago for the race of a lifetime. See you again someday. Ian 🇬🇧
Thank you for inspiring me going into Toronto this weekend. Great video and it’s amazing so many lives changed by running. Hats off to you for perfect splits in Chicago
Watched most of your videos over the years, this one is a top 3 for me. Such good quality with a variety of unique things which made it feel like I was there. Keep up the great work!
What a great weekend, and it ended with a well spent time at the marathon pacing your Buddy 👍🏼. Congrats again to you and your friend also. 🙌🏼🙌🏼. That’s the marathon I’m aiming for my next one.
Had an awesome weekend in Chicago, a large part due to the privilege of participating in your terrific shakeout. Thank you so much for all that you do to inspire us and for your contribution to the running community.
Hey man I love your videos as they have brought to me tons of useful information about running in general but I would love to hear more about you talking about the blister problem and how to deal with it. Should I keep running with blister still there under my feet or just quit exercising completely and wait for it to be able to fully healed? Would appreciate that, ❤
What a brilliant video with great content. I also suffer from vertigo issues and running helps so much - it's a form of vestibular therapy and helps the brain reconcile the inputs from our eyes and ears.
I was working the gel station on Taylor Street, you thanked us volunteers. Then I realized it was you that ran by and I started fan buying. I turned to my teammate and said "bro it's Kofuzi!" That was definitely a highlight for me, Thank you
I am a beginner runner 🏃♂️ I came across your content recently since then I have been studying all your videos. Your RU-vid is awesome 👌🏼 I am currently preparing to run Tokyo Marathon next year ... hoping to run NYC or and Chicago marathon one day 🙏🏻 💙 from London. J.
Shout out from McHenry County! Love all your content, these videos are great. Let me know if you're ever looking for training partners out in the northwest burbs (I just ran 2:58:56 on Sunday in Chicago)
Same for me in the Houston Marathon in January. I’ve lived there and run the marathon for the last 10 years. My work relocated me to Dallas this year so going to run Houston 2023 as a tourist. Staying in a hotel downtown is going to be a very different experience. Really looking forward to it.
Great vid! I ran Chicago last year and joined your shakeout run. I'm recounting those memories from your video today. I ended up running Berlin this year but I will be back in Chicago one day to run the race again!!
Awesome video, Mike! I love these runner’s weekend vids so much and this one had extra feels. I’m so glad you and your running buddy ran it together and it all comes full circle. You’ve inspired me to keep pushing forward with my goals! 💙
