I'm completely amazed by your level of organization in such a small space. If I was a 1/10th as organized as you I'd be a more productive man. I am woodworking in a small, city apartment, except I don't have a garage,or basement so I'm using my 16x20 foot attic, so everything I have I had to haul up three flights of stairs, including all my lumber, cast-iron top table saw and everything else. I feel your pain on the heat,in the summer it was miserable woodworking, so much that I procrastinated doing large projects, thankfully it's cooled down now so I've started doing more projects.

A lot of times (in other videos) you make really weird comparisons of tools from low end to high end, but it's really helpful when you just say what you like and don't like about something as a standalone item. This is great here. Some thoughts for some of the cheaper items you mention. I recommend putting some sanded 3/4" plywood in those HF bar clamps in the grooved backs to strengthen them. It'll relieve a lot of that twisting issue. Secondly, yeah those .99 cent glasses from HF are great because they're only 99 cents, but the Milwaukee 3-glassware packs are better and you don't have to drive in stop and go traffic along 161 to get them. You're wasting as much money on that road as just popping over to one of the box stores by Sawmill or Easton. Finally, if you hate any tool you have, definitely strip the tool down for any of the parts that are useful, like the motors or even just the bearings. They'll be integral in anything you do in the future and is way cheaper than getting from McMaster Carr. Hope this helps. Great vid!

A garage like that would make me very happy. I'm literally doing all my woodworking projects out of 12x12, 12x14 including closets in my apartment. Table saw, chop saw, router, workbench, wood rack, clamps, hand tools compressor, drill press.... Even a secondary desk/bench. I honestly don't know how I'm fitting it all in there with my queen bed and clothes. Portable tools that double with other tools and organization is key to making that work. But it is possible.

I would love the many of space you have... I’m currently in rented accommodation with just a 8 by 5 foot shed - in the UK we generally have less space and I end up doing a lot of bigger projects outside!

Having your dust collector above you can cause some issues, not to mention the heat could eventually destroy the motor. Rockler DustRight has wallmount models that are really powerful and effective and for a little bit more $$ will offer greater flexibility.. just a thought

i'm not really concerned about breaking that cheap dust collector. Having the additional floor space is much more valuable to me 😀

Nice video giving me inspiration to make a few changes to my garage setup, although mine is a detached unit from my house and I have an AC window unit I put in this summer. I need to get it better organized like you. But the door to door gasoline salesman at the end of the video? That's random. haha.

How big of a circuit does your Dewalt planer run on? I still work out of my garage and only have two 15 amp circuits, I'd love to get a helical head for it, but don't want to be throwing the breaker anytime I use it. The general consensus I've read says they need more amps to run them with the upgraded head. It's great to see someone else dealing with the small shop limitations as well.

I run off of a 15amp circuit and I’ve blown the breaker significantly less after installing the helical head

@@SpencleyDesignCo that’s awesome! I’ve had the same experience as you, the Dewalt planer blades seemed to be made from aluminum cans or something, after my first big project they were so dull that the planer couldn’t even feed the boards through. I cleaned the rollers and thought it was because of the 15 amp outlet. I switched the knives on a whim and it works great again.

🤣 I went through 2 sets of knives (4 total sides since they’re double sided) in one project. I instantly went online and bought the helical head

You said you have sanding sleeves for your router. How does that work? Is there a bit you use for that? Thanks!!
@SpencleyDesignCo
@SpencleyDesignCo 2 года назад
They're actually just drum sanders for a drill press, but they work great for a router on a low speed. Here's a link to something similar to what I've got: amzn.to/3EuwCtw

See Paul Sellers video on improving those long aluminum bar clamps. Improves them from twist about 75%. I cut strips of plywood and put some polyurethane on the wood before inserting to keep wood from delaminating. Will make you happy you have the clamps I promise.
