"I've never used a professional grade tumbler before" Well you still haven't because it came from harbor freight.
@NormReitzel
@NormReitzel 4 года назад
It's a vibratory tumbler. What do you want, stainless steel outer tub, or a union label? Sure. you can pay $400 for a "professional" tumbler and it will perform exactly like the (admittedly cheap) harbor freight unit. And the HF unit won't last as long, but for the difference in price you could buy ten new HF tumblers. I'm all for well built tools, but I believe the term that applies is "gild the lilly."

It's got a motor...insulating any motor while running without some cooling medium will cause catastrophic failure. It's an open air cooled motor. I kinda thought that would have been common sense. It produces heat, therefore insulating it might not be too smart? Just sayin.
@Mouthwashh
@Mouthwashh 4 года назад
While you're correct, it's a low voltage electric motor. This isn't really a whole lot different than a hard drive motor, or fan motor. Many fan motors are completely enclosed, and your hard drive motor sits inside a metal chassis that's beside other heat producing components. You could stick this tumbling machine next to a pool of gasoline for a week and you wouldn't have any problems (barring potential ESD), the enclosure it's self would act as a heat sink. Honestly, the worst thing that could have happened is the motor burning out.
@paramountcyclops
@paramountcyclops 4 года назад
@@Mouthwashh I'm a mechanical engineer. Its literally part of my job to know everything there is to know about every kind of motor. Low voltage or not, that is an air cooled motor...we call that a air over cooled motor. It NEEEDS open air to cool itself. That particular motor will not have air high temp air bleeders, and I doubt it had any internal overload, or it would have been short cycling. Heat goes up, which makes resistance go up, which makes more heat, which in turn makes more resistance, until catastrophic failure occurs.
@Mouthwashh
@Mouthwashh 4 года назад
@@paramountcyclops Regardless of your paper certificate, the actual risks involved were comically minimal. I've over volted circular sanders that were clogged with dust and debris to an extreme degree. They worked for a couple of hours to get the job done, got quite warm, and then proceded to die. I have several vibratory tumblers I use for cleaning ammunition brass. I used to have issues with the tumblers "walking" across the garage floor while they were running. I tried putting the tumblers on different things to fix the issue with no luck until I tried some pieces of used linoleum flooring. I cut them down so the tumblers would fit on them and put the "slick" side down and the rough side up, which is opposite of what you do when you install the flooring... Worked like a charm! I can leave my tumblers running for hours and they don't budge at all. I got the idea from the flooring guys who installed my laminate flooring. They put linoleum down on the concrete floor first to act as a slip pad and they laid it down on the slick side with the rough side facing up. That way the laminate flooring would "float" over the rough side, so to speak.

I heard it start at 1:47 in the video. If you look at the white text in the bottom left corner of the screen, you can see it is also blurry for a few frames. It's likely just a video glitch from either original footage, or an editing software glitch, but possibly just an editing error. Only a few frames, and from a group known for amazing; video shooting, editing, quality, content, and even marketing to be honest. It happens to the worst of us a lot (myself for instance), and to even the best of us like the TKOR team. TKOR, I love everything you all do, keep entertaining and teaching us, but most important of all, keep doing the cool stuff we all want to do, but shouldn't!!! Thanks to you, now we don't have to!!!!
