@@omiheaddev7090 that’s definitely not ‘all’ he was doing. He’d also regularly serve ads, misleading ones, telling you that your device was at risk, to trick you into installing other bonzi software, and would also send your data to bonzi servers

The blue box is because games like Speedy Eggbert and stuff (90s programs) didn't use pngs, they used jpg/jpegs and had one solid background color that was removed in the program

this actually affects the security of your pc and windows, the system thinks that you're an adulte and you know what to do. i still remember when i wanted to install gta sa (cracked version), it asked me for the admin permission, it was at 01/14/2006. i still waiting for gta sa to run and my pc to boot.

The reason why it has a solid color background on it is because Windows 7 and later have an enhanced Aero theme, and apparently the Aero Theme causes the backgrounds around the agent characters. In Windows 7, setting the theme to Windows 7 Basic fixes the problem.

Since the servers that ran ads and tracked data have long since been shut off, BonziBuddy shouldn't be much of a threat anymore. However, we still recommend using a virtual machine to keep him contained if you really think that intentionally downloading animated malware is a good use of your time bonzi yay

Probably not possible. Last browser that I know of in active development for Windows 95 is RetroZilla, and even that is pretty much a fork of Firefox 2 with support for some modern security protocols.

However, you would be better off just using good windows agent software and use the gorilla agent. At least It used to be available back in the day. Cheers

I just found your video and thought I would let you know that Version 4x does not have the GUI Menu that was a feature only in 3x. Version 4 went back to the popup menu when you click on Bonzi. I can't believe people are still using the files I backed up So Many years Ago, I am glad I was able to backup the Gold Member Stuff when I did way back then so people can still Enjoy them. I had forgot about the 432 installed made by I can't remember off the top of my Head from those backups I made so many years ago. I guess its now time to break out my Source Code for Bonzibuddy 5.0 I was working on years ago and see what it will take to get it working on Windows 10.

From what I understand, some legacy software doesn't work properly simply due to the fact that they try to perform actions that require administrative privileges. They assume they have such privileges because they were created before Windows Vista, when UAC was introduced. Something to keep in mind in future videos like this.

You’re gonna get the blue background if you have a 3D theme. I did this experiment on a Windows 7 VM. When I had Aero on, I got the blue background. When I did not have Aero on, it was transparent.

looks like it was developed with visual basic. I recognize the default icon and typical errors (error 53). And the download feature, you didn't see the file in the list because of the toolbar window. It uses usually only 1 row but because of some dpi issues it didn't fit in 1 row. You could try to right click the toolbar and select which icons should be shown. (eg remove 1 icon to make it 1 row).

Why the blue box? Well in older games (e. G. Doom) and probably older windows there was no "transparent" in sprites. So they used bright pink, or bright blue instead. Since we have proper transparency now, this only worked correctly once u enabled compability mode.

Have you tried to add more objects in download manager? Maybe because of the height of the title and tools bar in windows 10 is different with older systems, items list seem to been blocked behind by the bar?

"All we have to do is run it as an administrator" and this is one of the great problems of windows. Software actually expects admin rights for virtually no good reason. I can kinda excuse it because back in the Windows 9x days there was no concept of privileges in the windows ecosystem but even modern software is far too admin happy.

@@Leavemealone670 You're not making an argument. My complaint lies in software requiring admin rights for no good reason. I.e. software that cannot be secured other than to simply not use it. Or software that thinks it's an acceptable fix for broken features and breeds a culture in users of thinking that it is acceptable for software to require.

Hey!!! BonziBuddy seems to be a threat to Windows system. My security suite detects it as a Pontentially Unwanted Program initially. I still mark it as safe and allow its installation but after installing it my security suite detects some threats like trojan horse, key loggers, spyware. I am wondering how can anybody allow these infections considering them as safe. Dont you think you are compromising with your security??? Agreed that the Bonzi servers are shut down but why the security suite detects so many infections even after marking the program as safe? Could the installation file be injected with some trojan horse or spyware. I mean couldn't the installation file be manipulated? Is it really safe to install?

Ohh! Please do not continue to mark it as safe. The threats are either because of a back door that is made when BonziBuddy is downloaded, or because you may have downloaded a malicious version of BonziBuddy (example one created by a hacker who most likely implemented some viruses into their version of BonziBuddy) so try to remove all of the viruses as well as BonziBuddy. Basically I’m trying to say just delete the software.

You should do a video on "Cyber Buddy", which is extremely similar to this but without the Spyware concerns.

CyberBuddy can't be downloaded anymore. That website is offline, and plus, while the file has been hosted elsewhere, it is an online installer.

great video, lol. lots of good nostalgia with making Bonzi curse, etc. The File Downloader utility is awful, who would ever use it? It makes things more complicated than just saving to Desktop

Does anyone remember the Furbies from back in the 90's? Not the newer ones with the LED eyes. Furbies could talk to each other and could get annoying. Can you imagine 2 Bonzi Buddies talking to each other and spying on you?
