I have never really tried tempo runs but finally did a 10km yesterday but I didn't look at the watch, I just tried to do it by feel. I was actually amazed that I set a PR of 57 minutes. The only issue today is that I'm quite sore 😂. I will also add in the interval sessions as well. Thanks!

To me, long distance running is not only about building up stamina and heart rate control, my muscle of hips and legs aren't strong enough to support large strides for long time. This problem stops me from improving my performance. So I guess easy runs aren't good enough in my case?

How long should the long run be if you want to improve 5k time

More is always better, no matter the race distance. You would see benefits up to about 20 miles or 3.5 hours of running, whichever comes first. BUT, I would say that working up to a long run of 1.5 hours (duration is more important than distance for long runs) is a good and realistic goal.

Surprised you did not include hill runs. Both power/strength and stamina are developed with hill intervals or runs.
