Sam this is a usual issue for American Knuckles. Unless you buy Kadee's (the original) it is always a gamble with the couplers. Trimming the brakepipes is more common than you think. Too harsh of the bump test. Hornhooks which knuckles replaced were even less reliable. (Which for some reason were NMRA standard). I'd also like to see a video on these as they cross the points to figure exactly what stopped it on your turnouts.
I got the Tyco Rocky mountain line Comin round the mountain train set when i was a kid. Got it for Christmas. Absolutely loved it. Always thought about it when i would see Summit candy bars for some reason. Now they don't make either one!🤥
Was at the Truro, NS Model Railroad show this past Saturday and found a G Scale S4 for 300$ Can mint with very little run time just, It was in CN black with the gold lettering just hat to get it.
If anyone is looking into getting started I got started off of eBay and walthers because it’s expensive but high quality. eBay is cheaper though while still being used a lot of things that have come aren’t broken I think I’ve only ever ordered 2 broken freight wagons but they broke because the postal service man dropped them while walking up my stairs so originally I don’t if they were damaged or not.
@@SMTMainline good afternoon I have a very good solution for your drive shaft issue. Go on ebay and type in food grade clear silicone rubber hose and get 2mm inside diameter and 5mm outside diameter. Now it will twist if the space between the shaft is more than maybe 6mm or 8mm apart. So you can have a piece on each end and cut a nail that is 2mm thick the rubber line will act as a ujoint so it will not matter is motor is not lined up a 100% I have spent lots of time making drive shafts all my trains I remotored. This is the best way now iam going back and swapping them over with this method. The rubber line holds very good to the shaft it will not slip if it's on the shaft 6mm if you have a very short shaft crazy glue works well .
SMT - Talk to someone in your model train club who has an electronics background. Maybe they can help you find a resistor to put in series with the 3-volt motor in your dad's 0-4-0 to make it run like it has a higher voltage motor. I think the Radio Shack stores in Canada still carry a lot of resistors & other parts.
problem with that is you would have to use a ceramic resistor that would get hot as hell it would have to be mounted to a heat sink. not a good think . you could interrupt the power going to the track and do it there that way its not mounted in the train and only use it to run the 3v train . use a zener diode 6.2 volts 5 watts that will stop the voltage from being any higher than 6volts then you would need a ceramic resistor . i would say the 3 volt motor can run safely on 4 volts with out messing it up so just get some 5 watt ceramic resistors different resistance start with 10 ohms and check the voltage with a meter til you find the right one. i think changing the motor would be best.

@@reasonblacks4712 - Thank you for letting me know, I was under the impression that Radio Shack in Canada was still the same. In the U.S. some of the Hobby Town chain of hobby shops carry some Radio Shack items on a dedicated shelf.
@@normancoreyBuildingTrains - You are right that heating a series resistor would be a waste of power! I did run a Marx O27 gauge Lehigh Valley switcher that had a 6-volt DC motor with an HO power pack & the motor didn't seem to overheat. I wired in a bridge rectifier so I could run the switcher with an AC transformer. Marx did make some HO scale trains back in the 1960s & early 1970s that ran on batteries in the power pack. If a modeler has those trains, he could use your ideas to run them on the layout. You could use a S.P.D.T. switch to select or bypass the resistor.
Good morning SMT pulling is horrible because the clear traction tires are not really rubber they could be vinyl put black rubber tires on it you wont get wheel slip then
I do believe some modelrailroaders use a very fine paintbrush with acrylic paint and you only paint the sides of the rails not the head of the rail obviously because that's where the locomotive gets its I would also think if you wanted my opinion you could use an airbrush too but you would have to mask that railhead. I would think testors enamel paint would work I'm unsure about acrylic because I would think being its water-based it would allow for corrosion or oxidization to set in. That's just my thoughts

Hey, dude, running trains is nice, but how about cleaning up your layout by removing the extraneous stuff and non-running equipment, non-scale stuff, adding some scenery to the non-sceniced areas and running trains as if they were in real operation around your layout. You have lots of nice buildings and some scenery items like hill outlines and bridges, roads and such, but spruce it all up. What do you say?
just curious but what's wrong with him running it his way.. he's had this layout for many years and it's always a working progress as he said in many streams. also said that he likes the way it looks. I get what you're saying but when you look at it he's limited on how he can do things since everything has been set in stone mostly. just saying.
I would think that he's using what works for him such as every other RU-vidr that usually uses a phone because cameras are very expensive especially prices up there. I would think it probably works best for him in the first place. that's what I would think because me and a bunch of others do the same thing.

Unless it's a certain type which would be a simple canon brand no high def expensive brand. Also I'm sure the taxes etc very high in Canada..just like buying stuff online import duties all that Bs which is unnecessary to those of us in us but gotta think of the big picture I think..

I got told off at my how every thing was working, All though videos I did at club. they came to me if Iwas talking like Iwas putting them down are club, I put up3 videos how locomotive just dies on that spot. One guy tells this person about how he videoing his train , same time he running his train, Iam doing videos of the problems on are layout people could see what is wrong with. They do not wan t me to call them. Then they cry to anther person tells them I am talking shit about are club and layout, I had a lot comments about are, they are mad over it.
