The bottom line about the bib mule thing is that people are jealous that he’s only three years into running and only four marathons deep and he secured a Boston Marathon time at Houston. If he hadn’t secured a Boston time I bet the jealous writer wouldn’t have been jealous and wouldn’t have even known who Matt was. Also, Matt is lucky his mom wasn’t hard on him and his brother academically like many Asian parents are. He said his mom worked in Fortune 500 companies and she never forced her sons to do that. That’s a good mom. Not forcing your kids to follow your path. Let them become successful on their own in their own way. His mom is how Asian parents should be.
My long term hybrid training goals are: Lifting: 350 lb squat, 250 lb bench, 400 lb deadlift, 250 lb weighted pullup (including bodyweight) Running: sub 12 second 100m, sub 5 minute mile, sub 3 hour marathon Want to have fitness level to do any of these any day of the week, any time of the year, until I die., I’m 5’6 and 160 lbs around 15% BF.
I have been listening to this podcast a lot. It’s great to just listen to athletes talk I love it. It mostly helps to reinforce that I’m doing my own stuff right, and then learning something new now and then is awesome.
The beginning topic of 'shit' was great. Lol...love watching Matt Choi on his channel so this was a pretty cool episode. That said...I'm 6'1 and wasn't an collegiate athelete, but I'm looking to balance lifting and, now as of 2 months ago, become a marathon runner.
i feel proud when i listen you two guys (and youngjamiebehind), i was with you when you had 5k sub, seeing 300k subs now its nuts, all well deserved i knew informations you provide for people and all free will one day be recognised, this thing will one day be followed by millions
Few minutes in I'm shock and intrigued 6:37 Poop training... Omg this actually a topic no running channel has covered to my knowledge at least 😅😬. This is making rethink of running longer distance.. 10k is OK I think, 😅. Let it see.. What hell if topic starter this was while having dinner
I feel like this was a really cool, nuanced discussion of the bib mule controversy. As Matt explains, there was absolutely no intent on doing anything to bend the rules or be nefarious. However, I think it’s important that the issue is raised simply because Matt has a big platform and borrowing a bib isn’t the best solution. Obviously Matt was out of options at the time, and he paid for the bib. However, I totally get why the idea of a slower runner paying a faster runner to compete under their name to qualify for Boston and potentially take somebody else’s spot is frowned upon. I would be incredibly angry if I found out I missed a bib for Boston because somebody got hired to run a race and finished a few seconds ahead of me, especially after training so hard to get there. It’s like a student paying somebody else to take an exam for them so they can get into an elite college. Of course, this was a harmless example - just a guy who really wanted to run a race, and a guy who was injured and had the resources to help him out. But it doesn’t take a genius to see how this system could be so easily abused, and I’m not surprised it’s got so much attention.
I've run more dozens of races using another name's bib and i thought it's common since our running group always sells last-minute race bib and sometimes i even swap my 21k race bib to a 10k bib in my group if i feel unfit or a bit injured.
5:37 i heard ginger candy helps with the shits for runners I get the shits when I’m extremely dehydrated on my long bike rides so it helps me staying hydrated. Keep wipes on you
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had was at Uchi in Austin. Great post race place. I know sushi in Austin sounds crazy…and it was 10 years ago since I was going there regularly but still, excellent food!
