That is a neat saw, it's to bad McCulloch went under but i feel the same way with pioneer, and others made in america, I do the same with the macs on the oil/gas good idea. You know i was reading a vintage saw manual and it was talking about compression and how the cylinders are chrome plated then it mentioned if the compression gets low to have the cylinder re-chromed, i am pretty sure they still do that on motorcycles but i have no clue if it is expensive or if they do chainsaw cylinders, something to think about on some of the real hard to get cylinders
It is neat, Mac trying to update their platform, but it was already too late. And yeah! They used to do blind bore rechroming, but the only place I know that still did it, quit about 2-3 years ago, the guy they had doing it passed away and nobody since can get it right. The best option now is to get them bored out and sleeved. I have a guy that does it for a reasonable price, under $200 , which was less than getting them rechromed.
Thanks man, yeah I could run 40 or 50:1 with klotz but these things are notorious for chrome flaking , so keeping them extra lubed and cooler don’t bother me at all. Plus keeps the mosquitoes and flys away lol
