Running therapy on the anniversary of my husband's death. The grief & heartache of being widowed.

Six years ago my life was turned upside down. I because a widow and had to tell my 2-year-old that Daddy was dead.
My husband Ben was diagnosed with a Grade II brain tumour in 2007. In 2010 it progressed to a Grade IV tumour which would be terminal. My beautiful Ben died, after putting up an incredible fight, on the 26th July 2015.
Each year I struggle with the anniversary of his death. Replaying that last day with him over and over in my head. It's a day I like to be alone and like to reflect. In the interest of being alone I headed out onto Ilkley Moor to reflect on Ben's life and to do some running therapy.
Take care and live life to the fullest,
Nicola

A time to weep and a time to laugh. A time to mourn and a time to dance. Thank you for your strength Nicola. I wonder if you have any idea how many people you and Danny have helped carry over the last year or so. I'm here on a Saturday afternoon in Canada feeling a deep sense of love and gratitude for everything I have in my little life. Watching your video was a further reminder to appreciate every moment we have in this world. I could sense Ben was everywhere with you on that run......and always in your and Poppy's greater world. @Nicola Runs So happy you understand! I think doing long endurance stuff opened my mind to a lot of the ways I think about that “stuff” that really none of us know for sure. The idea you decided to run that day and feel a spectrum of emotions was so powerful for you....and likely many many viewers (definitely me). What happened to you and your lovely family was not fair. I know you’re a very positive person but I think seeing how unfair that was for you and having a good cry is more therapeutic than trying to understand why horrible events happen.

@@shanedean8762 of course I don't mind you replying! Thanks for your kind words! It's definitely good to share with people who understand. Thanks for caring David 🤗 I wish our culture were more used to talking about death. It's so hard when people don't talk about Ben that I try to keep his memory alive for Poppy, and for me, by talking about him often. It's hard to process the death of someone close to you without being able to talk about it but that's what our culture expects. I still think of Ben every day. Obviously after 7 years it's now with less pain but I'm still so sad for the life he never got to live and for the time we never got to get as a family. Thanks Frazer, that means a lot. I really struggle with the way we don't really talk about death, or the loved ones we've lost, in our society. It makes life much harder to deal with when you lose someone! I'm all for talking about life and being real rather than not mentioning things for the fear of making people feel awkward 🤷🏻‍♀️❤️

@@NicolaRuns Hugs in return to you. I had no word for you after watching this vlog. But I love your strength and ability to get out and run on the anniversary. @@peterduffy4207 thank you so much for these lovely words. I always think that if I'm struggling with a day but I get outside then at least I'll feel better in myself than if I'd just sat at home. It's hard as sometimes I want to be on my own rather than see people but luckily... Because of trail running, then I know beautiful places that I can find solitude ❤️
