Nigel, I really enjoy your narrative during your videos. Casual, humorous, but always informative. Thank you.

Those were good safety tips at the end. I didn't realize the dangers of pressing cold steel and the risk of a work-piece launch. Makes sense now that I think about it -- but how easy to have to learn the hard way. Thanks for the video.
@NigelBarnettArtistBlacksmith
Hi thanks i know someone whos dad pressed cold spring to try to straighten it and it went right through him. took a year to try to fix him but then died so be safe when you are having fun.

Nice compact forging press. I used to have one of the older ones with a tower. Awesome press, but I moved it on as it was not getting used as often as i would have liked. I see you are enjoying your open jalopy. Keep well and thanks for sharing the video.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what processes are a press more suited to and what is a power hammer more suited to?

That is very impressive, just have to save up for a few years😂

Awesome tool. Noisy though... How much does it weigh? A rectangular plate of steel sheet (and wood bottom?) would be a nice addition as the front flat area paint suffers from the hot steel as it bangs on it.

Not compact really, at least this time the ST did not copy anyone else's design this time. I agree that you are not getting full power. How many litres of oil Nigel?

love the car dude :)
@NigelBarnettArtistBlacksmith
Hi Darren thanks its fun to drive but easy to use for drifting as it has cross ply tyres .my red Caterham is the fast car .

which is faster a power hammer or this?
@NigelBarnettArtistBlacksmith
It varies on billet size and hammer size.

That thing is as big as a house! Way, way, way too big for my shop. Big Blu is a fraction of that size and it has rollers. Forge On!!!
@NigelBarnettArtistBlacksmith
i will show you the one i use in the yard it weighs 8ton and press 300ton mad but good for making domes .wish i had a small shop then i would not have to lift all the big stuff .but it is fun .i have it the wrong way round as i get older my work is getting bigger .if you are ever over here come and visit .
@ForgingAheadArtisanBlacksmith
Way to big for my uses, I do have a question out of pure curiosity. Is there a way to limit the pressed gap or do you need to use a physical block as a stop? An adjustable limiter of some sort would be handy with a machine that powerful.
@ForgingAheadArtisanBlacksmith
I am limited in shop space and have decided what I need the most in my shop for the versatility I would get from it is a 55 Ton ironworker. The only way I would consider for myself a press would be if they made round and square bar shear up to 3/4" or 20mm and also made a punch for 3/4" or 20mm holes.
@NigelBarnettArtistBlacksmith
hi i used same tooling as my hammers but you could put a limiter on these but as its a press it would only work and press to the limit when the stock is hot enough.
