I've heard of "electric brass" a few years ago and have toyed around with running my tuba, euphonium and trombone through various pedals. Lately, I've been liking running my tuba through a fuzz pedal for a short of heavy metal sound.

What fantastic chops you’ve got, sir! Great fun! I haven’t heard playing like that since my mom, a dance band trombone player in the 1940s, played flight of the bumblebee! ….by the way, Gerald Plain used a pedal for his piece Racoon Song, way back in 1975. Such a great thing to do!! Love love love your playing!

Haha! If I could play the trombone, the that would be the first thing that I did!! I would definately run it through some guitar pedals!!! Or sample it and run it through a synth!

I would have loved to hear that whammy pedal and the delay pedal together. Still loved the idea being able to use the pedals for something other than just guitar. However I still love my guitar.

Chorus would’ve been first thought, and maybe a reverse delay would be cool. Really thought fuzz would’ve been more fun but I didn’t like it as much

I just finished up a run of a musical where I was running my trombone through an octave pedal to play trumpet parts, I used a silent brass pickup mute to get rid of any acoustic sound, it worked way too well

I use the Boss VE-500 Vocal effects, SY-1, and Dimension C, along with a Q-Tron Nano, on my Saxes and EWIs. I get some sweet (interesting?) sounds out of those

What I want to know is: how does one connect a microphone to pedals? The voltage and impedance of a microphone is so different than a guitar pickup. You need some sort of DI box, pre-amp, or something?

You could use a mixer or an impedance adapter - anything that boosts the signal appropriately. I generally run my mic into a small mixer, then run a line out from the mixer to my effects loop. Lots of mixers will let you feed your effects loop back in to mix it with your main signal. Then you send the output to a powered speaker, headphones, interface, etc.
