Hey, friends in this video I will discuss the Rupert Neve Designs RNHP Precision Headphone Amplifier Review its features, build quality, specs, design, overall quality of sound, and how it compares to my current solid-state Reference Headphone Amp the Topping A90 Ultra-High Performance Headphone Amplifier. I test the Rupert Neve Designs RNHP Precision Headphone Amplifier alongside the amazing Topping D90 Digital Analog Converter paired with several pairs of headphones such as the Rosson Audio Rad-0, ZMF Verité Open, Drop Sennheiser 6XX, and the ZMF Aeolus, to give my overall conclusions.

I use my RNHP daily, being fed by an Apogee Groove DAC / HPA. I have upgraded the stock RNHP power supply with a slightly beefier 24V/25W 1.04A psu. The sound produced by this device is stellar! I prefer it over my much more expensive equipment such as the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition dac/hpa, SPL Phonitor SE, Topping A90D, Schiit Magni Heresy and the Schiit Jotunheim 2 hpa. It is a special piece of gear!

Thanks for the deep dive into the RNHP! I have owned the RNHP for about 2 months and am using a Bluesound Node2i into the RCA jacks on the Neve with Tidal MQA and Amazon HD music. I also have a McIntosh MVP 861 disk player connected via the XLR balanced cables. Running Focal Celestee and Meze 99 phones. I really like the Neve amp. It's clean, easy to listen to and MQA sounds great through the Node 2i DAC. It's an ideal setup without getting into huge dollars for a "show off" system. Your review reflects my experience with the Neve. Thanks again - well done!

Tested Audeze LCD-X on Topping A90, SPL Control ONE and RNHP using apogee duet2. Rupert Neve wins for studio work and mixing. Awesome instrument separation, transparent and flat.

It would be helpful to know whether this headphone amp can drive 250-ohm headphones - (eg Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros) with greater volume than can be obtained from the headphone outputs of prosumer interfaces such as the Universal Audio Apollo x8p. This is the primary reason I'm beginning to search for a high-quality outboard headphone amp - I can just barely get adequate listening/mixing volume with 250-ohm headphones direct from my x8p. It would be good to know if there is comparatively more volume on-tap from the RNHP unit. Thanks,

I know this may be a dumb question, but if someone for example used a headphone amp(like the RNHP) and connected it from an audio interface headphone out, wouldn't you then be essentially running the headphones through 2 different headphone amps in series?

Thank you for your review. I found the micro details (details after the big it) on the Neve headphone amp to be superior than the Toppings A90 D. Both have good macro details on the big hits.

Was going though head fi reviews and noticed that newer RNHP models has Nichicon KW caps and older models had Nichicon FW caps. How do i know if it is a newer model with KW caps Is there any particular sequence of serial numbers?

Nice to see a good review on this little guy! Have you tried it with the Ananda by chance? I’ve heard it doesn’t hold up well with lower impedance cans...though you seemed to like it with the Rad-0!

I had sold my Ananda before I got deep into the review if memory serves me correctly. I don’t see why it would be an issue unless the match wasn’t synergistic the Ananda are pretty easy to drive, @Aaron Haas thanks for watching your your support!!

Thank you for the review. Right now on the Drop the RNHP is selling for $439.00. I am thinking of purchasing this amp are well and pairing it with the Soncoz LA-QXD. Can I ask you please to review either of the two Soncoz DACs?

I enjoy shopping with drop but like to have a 30 day return policy and a manufacturer warranty. As far as the DACs, I will have to see if I can get one sent to me from the manufacturer or a person from the audio community!

How does the RNHP pair with the HD650/6XX? I'm worried that the sound might get too warm. I'm looking to get this amp and the new Topping D30 Pro dac. Do you think this combo would work well? I'm upgrading from a Dragonfly Red so the difference should be huge! Great review.

It wouldn’t be my first choice for the 6XX. I would personally prefer a tube amp, or a solid state amp that is a bit more detailed with a bit better staging. If you are open to some other amps let me know.

Hello. I have this amp with hd650. In my opinion is the best match. While my tube amp will increase soundstage, rnhp takes hd650 default signature and make it the best i have heard. At you position i would keep the red as a dac and will add only the rnhp. Red is an excellent dac and will output exactly the standard 2 volts. Rnhp will not get the 650s warmer either unless you will pair with a very warm dac. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the sub and support @TheMrgonzalo05 ! I really enjoyed the Feliks Elise, but it really will depend on what headphones you have as well as what sound signature you are going for. I have a full review for it upcoming, if you wanted to get some general impressions we did a live stream comparing it to another amp. It’s a long stream so you may want to wait until you have some time to kill. Great video! Thank you Marcello! I have this amp and I love it with my HD650 and Aeon Flow open. I found it more enjoyable with warm headphones in general. How does it sound with Aeolus? Aeolus is maybe my next headphone and I want to know if this amp will be enough..

Awesome @Alex K , thanks for watching and your support! I thought it sounded very good with the Aeolus. I prefer the Aeolus off a tube amplifier most of all though. The RNHP will definitely have enough power for the Aeolus but it wont unlock the potential of the Aeolus like a good tube amplifier will in my opinion. Let me know if you want a few ideas for tube amplifiers. Thanks again!
