I believe that White Horses placed no.1 and Rupert no.7. best childrens theme tunes. I am truely honoured and humbled by it all. To be remembered by so many fans after all this time is very heart warming to me. Thank you so much for your comment. Jackie Lee.
im 53 and have become hardened by this shitty world . hearing this brings a tear to my eye and takes me back to a time when everyone was polite , respectful and the world was a happier place
Well said....my sentiments as well. The past was a different world in more ways than one. People didn't have a lot but they seemed happier and more content....when did you last hear anyone whistle?
I'm Jamaican. I got a teddy bear as a gift on Christmas Eve in 1973. I named him "Rupert" and have him in my bedroom to this day! I didn't know why I did so until I chatted with a man online earlier this week. We were talking about his daughter's discarded teddy bears, and when I told him about my Rupert he told me tht he had a Rupert and a Paddington. I was floored at this and decided to look up the name "Rupert the Bear" online a few minutes ago... Look where I am now! This is AMAZING!!!
Hi there, thank you for your comment on this video and of course Paul without him I would never have seen the TV clip of me singing Rupert. Jackie Lee.
I cannot tell you how much your voice brings joy and happiness and memories of being just a kid. Thank you a million times over from a 52 year old guy. 🥰
Rupert, black beauty,Robinson Crusoe,The flashing blades ,Foly foot, white horses, champion the wonder horse , Zorro , and many many more .What a time to be alive .
You are welcome Jackie. When I first uploaded the clip to RU-vid I never expected THE Jackie Lee would take the time to comment. Just shows what a nice, genuine person you are. Thank you for being the voice of my childhood. I'm 45 but still love the song and your voice.
My father was working in London as a diplomat from South Africa remember watching and the late sixties early seventies London atmosphere Magical miss it every day iconic times Egon
What show was the clip taken from? I assume it was "top of the pops" but all kinds of shows used to have singers on and provide them with a great set and this is a fabulous set to go with a wonderful song, sung by a lovely performer with a beautiful voice.
@@felixfedre518 it was a show called THE GOMDEN SHOT hosted by BOB MONKHOUSE. There is a longer clip somewhere on RU-vid with his introduction to Jackie and the song.
I remember running home at lunchtimes from playschool, singing this at the top of my voice desperate not to miss Rupert. My mum would be running after me, both of us laughing so much.. It was such a vivid memory of my childhood that I recounted it in my eulogy that I gave at her funeral. Happy happy times🙂
Before I started school my Mum and Dad taught me to read with the Rupert The Bear cartoons in the Daily Express and I had the annuals every Christmas. My brother even got me a Rupert calendar for my last birthday. Happy memories of a much simpler time. ❤
Jackie Lee has a lovely singing voice, even as a child would stop to listen to the the song, nice to hear it again, if you read this Jackie, I hope you are very well, & thank's for cheering people up.
thank god for youtube, were we can drift back to our childhood, with songs like this and the wonderfull white horses song, thanks jackie, and if i may be a bit ckeeky, what a stunner you were, and probably still are
If I'm not mistaken, Rupert the Bear was shown on Wednesday lunchtimes when I was at primary school. I remember rushing home for lunch to watch it and I always loved the fantastic title song. A shame the original Rupert the Bear TV show is not available on DVD
I loved this song as a child, although the chorus used to always make me cry when singing it. It's been in my head somewhat for over 25 years, but this is the first time hearing it again... and I burst into tears at the chorus again! :-D Brought me right back to happy, simpler times.
Golden years and irreplaceable memories of my wonderful childhood. Surreal how I remember the lyrics immediately, as if I only just watched it yesterday!! My life has passed me by far too quickly. 😩
I am an absolute music fanatic... anything from Elvis to Run DMC to Black Sabbath... but this tune always gets me.... goes back to my 70's childhood, I just love it. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jackie I love you so much I am a big fan of yours I have a poster of you on my wall with my Rupert toy under it your are an inspiration to adults today and a new ordience of young children today x
Such joy.....my partner have started singing this song to our dog. Lol. She is such fun 2 just like Rupert. Playing games and having fun with her friends.
i used to run home from school every lunch time with my gran to have my boiled egg and watch rupert. then cry my eyes out when it finished. and im now doing it again thinking about the good old days when i didnt have a care in the world... THANK YOU
Do you know how many 40 somethings still get a tear in their eye when they hear "Rupert" & "White Horses" ? I'm sure with the thousands of comments you've had you must realise how much these two songs mean to so many people. When you reach 47, you sometimes yearn for your childhood again. If you you close your eyes and listen to either of these two songs you are there again....briefly....but definitly there again.........and for that 2/3 minutes youre 8 again, and it's lovely. Thank you.
Hi Andrew, You have such lovely memoeies to keep of you younger days, the people you have lost I am sure will forever live in your heart never to be forgotten. Jackie Lee.
This reminds me of a more innocent time growing up to Rupert et al. No computer screen, mobile phone in sight. Our entertainment consisted of climbing trees, catching minnows in a homemade net. I wouldn't change my childhood for anything, I am a grandfather now. Thank you Jackie for helping me have such an awesome childhood with Rupert, badger Bill, et al. Thank you so much. 🙂
Great to hear this song again,it takes me back to a time when music was simple with catchy tunes and easy to understand and you can hear every word she says, unlike today’s modern rubbish. Well done Jackie.
Awww wonderful!! The days of innocence, where did they go..........LOL!! What a fantastic voice, and glad to know that Jackie is still around and keeping busy! xx
You know, it's a strange thing but in amongst all the current chaos of this world there are particular moments of our past that suddenly makes you feel that actually, everything is okay again...snug and secure. When I hear Jackie sing this song, when I hear Oliver Postgates voice (narrator of Bagpuss and the Clangers etc) and of course White Horses. Thanks to Jackie and co for adding to my wonderful childhood memories. And thank you to you Paul for uploading this.
Brings back happy memories of my own childhood in the early 70's. My Dad is 89 years old and he was a fan of Rupert when he was a child in the 1930's so shows how long this character has featured in children's lives. Anyway, nice song.
Yes I believe Rupert is a Legend, as he has been going for sooooooo long in the Daily Express I think from the 1920's or maybe earlier. Did you know that there is a Rupert Society that was started 30 years ago and I am now in touch with them. Amazing isn't it after this time. I am so proud to be associated with the song. Jackie lee.
I'm 53 and watched this as a child the best part being the theme tune. My 3 going on 4 year old son has just fallen asleep in bed after listening to his new favourite song 'Rupert the Bear' on my phone. A very special moment.
Am , 55 year old guy, I remember this from back then,,! Think I was 3 or 4 year old when I watched, Rupert the bear back then,, but this is the 1st time I seen the singer,,! I loved The Rupert The Bear Song ,and On White Horses, only as a Adult now I know the name behind the Beautiful voice and great songs the Beautiful Jackie Lee.Thank you for these wonderful tunes, and Lasting Life long wonderful memories xxx
Oh my goodness, I recorded over 80 titles. and they were all on the market at one time or another. My first recording was in the middle 1950's. A few were close to being big hits. I gave up my career because of throat problems in 1974, not that I wanted but thought I had to and moved to the USA. Jackie Lee.
I sang this to my little niece recently and I still have my Rupert tea set which I plan to leave her when im gone. I loved Ru so much and this song. Thanks Jackie.
Exactly, I agree with what you say about memories, I used to watch Rupert the bear with my family in South Wales, and this song always takes me back to a time when my grandmother and my father was still alive. A time when music and TV was good to watch with out too much swearing and violence. I look back on the 1970's with great affection and a big melancholy sigh that those times are gone. I'm happy with my life now also with my family, and I still got my mam and my 88 year grandfather.
@UGSB12 Your not of the cloth are you? I never thought in my wildest dreams that people would still be talking about about Rupert the Bear. I must say I am honored to have been asked to record it. I think that having a hit with White Horses did help. All the best, Jackie Lee.
@srboathHello again to you Stephen . I must admit I was made aware of those facts and I have to admit that I am delighted at the thought that my two little songs were voted in such a way. I am also proud to have been a part of both recordings. Thank you for your interest. Best Wishes, Jackie Lee.
@MsJackieLee Hello again ms Lee. Yes i really do love that song. i actually read today that, in 2003, White Horses was voted the GREATEST theme tune in teleision history, and Rupert, was no. 7 in the same poll. Thats something to be very proud of, Hope you had a great weekend. , Stephen x
I remember when they first started using this theme tune, I'd never heard anything like it on children's tv, I was about 9 at the time but still loved the series. The song set my pulse racing and seemed to promise some wonderful place. I put it down to the energy and skill it was sung with. What a great singer.
Every time I watch "Rupert", I think of this song... (And my mum had a dress like this - 'charming hostess' dress circa 1972 or so...) Of course there were that song about a wedding and 'Just Like a Man', but I also seem to remember something like "I've Gotta Be With You" but Jackie Lee, too...
Just excellent! I remember watching Rupert the Bear way back in 1971 as a 6 year old! I'm sure my mum bought me a 45 single of this soundtrack! Thank you for happy times X
I turn 55 next week and remember having a bendy Rupert bear which was passed down to my younger sister Oh my word memories of sunny days and snowy winters come flooding back Fantastic xx
@MsJackieLee It was wonderful to receieve your message this morning ,definitely a nice start to 2012 ! Your vocals here are melodic, happy and joyous .My personal favourite is 'White Horses' which is ,dare I say it , touching on genius .I pray that God will bless you with your health and in your life this coming year.
it's amazing that such a basically twee song for a real kiddies tv programme can be done in such a cool, trendy way and still work perfectly on both levels. can't really imagine any singer of the modern day being able to pull something like this off.
I called my little boy Rupert as I have always loved the name since having the Rupert annuals in the 1970's, also in memory of a retired racehorse called Rupert that lived in a field near our house when I was a child. I found this recording on RU-vid and learnt the words so I could sing it to my son and he loves it. When I play him this RU-vid clip he is captivated. Thank you Jackie, your beautiful singing is still bringing happiness to children decades later.
This show in this era is why we named our son Rupert when he was born in 2013. I was a little boy when Rupert the bear was on tv. I adored it and treasure it to this day. Our Rupert is now 6. He loves to hear this exact original of the song. Its such a weird feeling to see him enjoy the song so much because he looks just like I did when I was 6 and loves it and gets excited to hear it like I did. Such a special song to me and our boy. And yes of course....he has a Rupert the bear plush toy he sleeps with every night. Jx
@UGSB12 What a lovely comment your memories are priceless. I am so pleased to have been a part of your happy childhood memories All the Best, Jackie Lee.
@MsJackieLee.....I can't for the life of me remember any of the storylines to Rupert the Bear, or White Horses, but the theme tunes, now that's a different matter. In my opinion, they were definitely the highlights, and as for your voice...beautiful. It must be strange and very pleasing to still find so many people that have lasting and happy memories of what you did. Thank you so much.
wow i just been listing to the rupert and also the white horses theme both quality and fantastic i loved them years ago and will enjoy for a long time to come.
i love her music it brings back so many wonderful memories of me and my best friend loveee 41 yrs we have been friends and we loved singing this and white horses thank you jackie xxxxx
I was 6 years old in 1968, and I'm pretty sure I haven't seen this clip since then. I still read Rupert books when I get the chance. Love it - Thanks Jackie Lee
Wow brings back really happy memories of my grandmother putting a blanket over me in the chair an putting the TV on to watch Rupert back in the early 60s I'm 56 now an it still brings a lump to my throat rembering all those years ago
Oh my goodness, thank you so much Jackie for replying. White Horses, Rupert and Watch With Mother are my first televisual memories and I still sing the first two now! They could always put a smile on my face and cheer me when I was unhappy and still can. I always loved your voice, it was so happy and friendly. I'd love to see White Horses especially again. Thank you so much again for the wonderful memories. You've made my day!
Oh Jackie! just had a good cry at this song..reminds me of dancing round to it with my godson, ( who's 42 now) he knew all the words at two! also loved your White Horses, takes me back to my teens! you might like to know Liza Tarbuck played it on radio 2 on Saturday, and said all ladies of a certain age would have a tear in their eye, and I did...where did all those years go?
Well Jackie I am honoured you still comment on this little clip. When I first uploaded it I did so because of your great vocals - and memories of me and my brother sitting down to watch its - a long time ago but a timeless song!
Oh my goodness, this takes me straight back to my childhood. Absolutely of its time and completely charming. Thanks very much for posting. I'm off to find Tales from the Riverbank & The Herbs now!
The same woman sang the themes to Rupert and White Horses. I'm finding this out now, 30 odd years since I watched either of them. Mind = blown. Also, Ms Lee, if I may say - you were a babe. Probably still are!
