I love going to the dacha, growing vegetables, fruits, berries, and then making delicious preparations for the winter. The aroma of vegetables and fruits grown without nitrates cannot be compared with anything else; vegetables and fruits bought in the supermarket have no taste or smell. Tiny home living is very common in USA..living in a dacha full time would be considered a way of life here ..drive back and forth to work in the city..come back to dacha and work each afternoon in the gardens..have chickens, etc..ahh the country life and tiny home living is the best!!

Warm greetings to you, Lisa! My parents could easily adapt to a dacha way of life, as that was their way of life when they were children. No running water, no electricity, and no indoor plumbing. They were born about ten years before the Great Depression of 1929, and my mother helped her mother in the garden and my father helped his dad with farm animals and with picking apples in their orchard. Me, not so much.😊

Электричество на дачах есть; централизованный водопровод обычно для полива и хознужд, а питьевую воду берут из скважины, или, что ещё можно пока встретить, из колодца). Туалет - септик или локальная канализация (хотя можно встретить и "типа сортир"). Теперь закон разрешил строить на дачах капитальные дома, так что дачные поселки стали быстро преображаться в круглогодичные, с жилыми индивидуальными домами.

Lisa, it's very interesting seeing your family dacha and the garden you've put in. I live in Arizona where it's very hot and dry, so a garden is only possible if you have access to a lot of water. If I had a garden I would focus on berries because I have to be honest, most things people grow in gardens aren't at all appetizing for me. I'd rather feed that stuff to an animal and then eat the animal! I laughed when you mentioned at the beginning that you weren't abducted by aliens, because the minute you said that I couldn't help but imagine you in a fist fight with an alien. You should have said, "If you think I look bad, you should see the other guy!" 🤣 I hope you're having fun spending time with your family, even if you're not getting much sleep because your mom wakes up too early! Especially many memories of my mother as she would go out in the rain and pick some of the vegetables for the evening meal. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. A cost effective solution to the “village” look would be to plant pine trees all around the dacha, providing a windbreak and privacy. You can have the illusion of living a remote place without actually being in one. Of course if your parents were rich, they would’ve bought up all the surrounding land so no one else could live next to them. That’s not realistic so there are other solutions. The aim is to make sure other people can’t see what you’re doing. Its actually nice to escape city life which is why Russians migrate to their dacha in the summer.

@@lisa_with_love И это правильно! Картошку имеет смысл сажать сельским жителям, там и масштаб совсем иной, излишки можно даже продавать. А горожанам дача нужна больше для отдыха от города. И сажают там в основном чисто для души, цветочки там, зелень по мелочи к столу, ягоды и плодовые деревья...

I like how You talk about the little things like the bees and frogs; I live in the forest and use jugs of water too; I have attracted many animals that depend on me, and so I can't travel far anymore (thats OK), so You are saving me the hassle of travel with Your Excellent videos (Thank You); You and Your Mom are like two peas in a pod; Her and Nyusha will surly miss You if You leave Vladivostok.

My grandparents loved growing their own flowers and vegetables. But to my Dad and I it was a bit of a nuisance. He even had our apple tree cut down. I wouldn't have done that. Now I've got the garden, it's all overgrown. I let the blackberries grow wild. If I only I had some nettles, they're full of iron, I could make a good soup with them😂 I had a chata (Czech dacha) for about a year. But, as you say, you need to spend a lot of time there to care of it properly, so it's no good as a holiday home if you live abroad.

Nice to see your family dacha again. Looking after a garden is hard work from a maintenance perspective but helps you keep fit, plus the results can be rewarding. From childhood to adulthood every house I have lived in has had a garden (often with a shed and sometimes a wooden summer house). It's nice to relax in a garden with friends and family during the summer months and enjoy cold drinks and food cooked on a barbecue. 🍔 🥗 🍺 🍷 In November it's traditional to have a bonfire, fireworks and eat potatoes that have been cooked in the bonfire. 🎇

As a brat growing up went to a so called dacha but a relative a so called summer away cottage at Indian Lake in Ohio but years back it was retriate now just another housing community. Yes I have veggie garden and all seeds germinated and up, tomato plants has blooms. Radish ready by next week.

front gutter's leaking above the stairs - quick fix roof sealant, growing one's own food is a precious emergency skill, plus it can be an almost care free supplementary food supply.

Hi Lisa, your cottage looks lovely it reminds me of our old one. It's nice that you grow vegetables and fruit, somethings might be cheaper in the store but it's the taste that matters the most, but you are correct in that if you want everything to be perfect at your dasha (ignore the spelling) you need to be there all the time. ❤lol from 🇨🇦

Dobroy den. ahhh "dacha life" looks so nice, calm and peaceful (solnichna, dozd, ili sneg) sunny, rain or snow)-----doesnt matter.(away from the bolshoy(big) city and "ochen Lydi" (many people)-----I always think and wonder "poachamoo lydi nye" (why dont people) ....build a dacha then just live in it forever and dont have a doma ily kvartira (house or apartment) ....why spend $ for 2 places just pick the nicer place (in dacha areas) and travel to city sometimes only ...spasiba dasvidanya

because many plots and dachas are not adapted to the Russian winter, without heating and water, but there are also real villages with strong houses where people live all year round! good use of the Russian language!

I love nature and have wild mulberry trees in my backyard. The rain though outside of Vladivostok reminds me of Uostate New York a little too much for me. I want sunshine. Maybe I better move to Arizona 😅. Interesting video!

Very small land holdings are getting fewer and fewer. Population is exploding near large cities and it causes subdivisions and land values go so high only very wealthy people can afford a summer cottage. We have a fruit orchard and a small house garden that is getting more difficult to keep up. We are in a rural area. South British Columbia, Canada, close to US border. 🇨🇦 🍑🥔🍅🍒🍷🍻 11:10 We love the outdoor things. My mom immigrated from Ukraine when she was a child with her family.

Yes I love gardening - more ornamental gardening though. A horticulturalist in fact from many years ago. The Dacha concept in Russia is a very good one and it looks like you have a good size plot. Would have a banya installed in it for relaxation and keeping clean. Very cute little dog 🐕
