In light of my last video regarding the Ruroc Atlas 4.0 launch, I wanted to follow up with an actual review, now that I have this new flagship motorcycle helmet in my hands!
On Feb 18, 2022 Ruroc officially dropped their new helmet - The Ruroc Atlas 4.0 for sale to the public. This helmet should be a significant improvement over their previous models, and will hopefully satisfy a lot of the people who have had issues with Ruroc helmets in the past. Although the helmet looks much the same, it really isnt. Ruroc has re-designed this helmet from the inside out, and have made massive improvements to comfort, fit, safety and acoustic performance, yet they have been able to retain the legendary Ruroc aesthetic that these great-looking motorcycle helmets are well known for.
This is a bit of a longer video, but I wanted to get as in depth as I could with the overview, so that you guys can use this to build or change any opinions that you might have about this motorcycle helmet, and Ruroc as a company. I really do think that the bold claims that they made, which we covered in the last video, have been brought to life and executed in a more than acceptable way with this new Atlas 4.0 helmet.
In this video, we unbox the new helmet (Ruroc Atlas 4.0 Joker) and go through the changes that were made from previous models like the Ruroc Atlas 3.0 helmet and I also demonstrate a quick fit test of the Atlas 4.0 as well as a noise comparison that you can see and hear between the new helmet, and the older atlas 3.0 model.
I have personally gotten a ton of criticism on social media after releasing the last video about this product, but this time I can feel confident in responding to any of your comments or opinions about the helmet, as I physically have one in my hands, and have tried it and used it and I am enjoying it a lot so far.
It looks like Ruroc has addressed a lot of their customer's feedback and complaints regarding their previous model being a noisy helmet, or having less than desirable padding, or even concerns about safety, and they are promising a truly impressive looking motorcycle helmet that you are definitely going to want to check out. And it's the first motorcycle helmet to feature Rheon technology!
One of the biggest improvements that has been made to this Ruroc Atlas 4.0 helmet that we will cover in the review is the helmet safety, noise level, and the fit, as these were the biggest flaws that were pointed out in ruroc helmet reviews up to this point.
Some of the new features we look at in this overview of the Atlas 4.0 helmet:
- No more need for vent plugs from Ruroc! - The Atlas 4.0 has closeable vents out of the box.
- New ECE 22.06 Safety Rating
- 20% reduction in noise
- Integration of Rheon technology in the liner and padding of this new flagship motorcycle helmet
- Multi Layered Cheek Pads with Removable Lining
- Streamlined aerodynamics

I know there are going to be a lot of people who just dislike Ruroc, but I can confidently say that this has been their best product yet, and it is AWESOME! Let me know below in the comments what your thoughts are. If any of you watching also have a 4.0, I would like to hear if you guys have any issues with it!

Great review!! I was skeptical about whether or not I'd buy a Ruroc cause I really love the look but was not sure about the reviews of their past helmets. After watching your review and a few others I know for sure this will be my next helmet!! Thanks for the advice man!

Wait until there are real reviews from real people that paid money for the helmets. Anything else cannot be trusted. This is how ruroc have stayed afloat, they stifle and delete criticism of their products on social media and gift helmets to RU-vid channels, knowing that most of them will fall into line and only say nice things.

I got mine a week after the 4.0 was dropped online. I would say it's way more comfortable and definitely quieter with wind noise/sound dampening over my agv helmet love it

How it is hating when the previous version were trash? Infact, one could argue that the reviews from people such as yourself is why the 4.0 is so good. The company actually listened to US as in the riders. Now they have shown growth and I will be purchasing on myself. Thats not hate. Its honest reviews.

I fully agree with you.. Yes, I reviewed the 3.0 but it had flaws that showed their face later on, but the first thing I did was address them with my viewers, and also wrote a LONG letter to Ruroc explaining the issues to them, and they listened. What is so bad about that? They made a product before that left a lot to be desired, and then they listened to the feedback and fixed the problems and put out a new version. Its called business, thats how it works. They improved the product by listening to the reviews. Nothing wrong with that.

Thanks to some honest reviews on RU-vid like yours, I have just received my first Ruroc Atlas 4.0 (The Batman). Absolutely love it. Very, very good fit, good noise levels, good visibility and probably the best looking helmet on the market. Love it.

@@jahsaanmajingilane263 On other brands I had been an XL. For Ruroc I went with L/XL. Since using the helmet a lot more, I do have a couple of issues though. I fitted the shock wave audio and (like many other people) found that the retaining clips for the liner break VERY easily when putting back in place. Getting the helmet on and off is an extremely tight process. Opening and closing the vents has very little effect if you're hoping to reduce internal air flow on a colder day.

Nice review Pasta-kun. I've got a Outrun helmet on the way but it is back dated until May. I'm currently riding with my Icon Airflite and a X-lite X903, my Icon is the noisest helmet I've ever owned and my X-lite in the most comfortable helmet I've ever owned but it's a little on the loud side. I'm hoping the 4.0 is a comfortable as my X-lite but quieter with more peripheral vision.

Absolutely love this helmet with the Shockwave Bluetooth. It is a bit louder than my HJC. Almost as loud as my O'Neal Sierra dirt helmet. It's comfy and quiet. It's light. The magnetic latch is so quick and easy. Visor swaps are easy. Since your helmet is too big, maybe get the thicker pads that should help.

I have been riding with an X-14 for the last couple years but I’m really considering giving the 4.0 a try. Not quite there yet but I’m getting close lol. Their carbon and mercury helmets are so awesome looking. Excellent review brother. Ride safe!!

@@setunedouche so so. Improved over previous models but I think the biggest change to aerodynamics on this one comes from removing the 90000 vents that didn’t need to be there. Aside from that the basic shell shape/design remains the same. Those pesky side vents are still there which likely bugger with it a bit, but at least they don’t cause a bunch of noise now. All in all, feels like a lot less drag on this one than on the 3.0. Is it the most aerodynamic helmet ever made? No. But I think that’s mostly to do with how they look/are designed, and the limitations this presents.

@@setunedouche You hit the nail on the head there. I honestly find it irritating that everyone absolutely hates on these helmets saying that there are safer options, track rated options etc and throwing out phrases like "you would never see a motoGP rider wearing one, therefore it's crap" I feel like a lot of that really does not have much substance... Its like the difference between wearing casual protective pants on the street vs a full leather race suit. This helmet is designed for street and everyday use, and has killer aesthetics, comfort and features IMO. Yes, the prior versions had their problems, but with the feedback that us as users have been able to give Ruroc, they have taken that and been able to manage to refine the product to reflect the quality that we were expecting. 10/10 I think they are on the right track now. Right tools for the job, thats my $0.02

ive just brought the starwars 1 vader one was pain it the bum to get liners back in and had to cut bit of plastic out of the hole on tinted visor tho very comfortable and shockwave is loud clear happy with it tho

I was thinking, maybe if you had some other helmets that aren’t Ruroc. Maybe making a video with the decibel reader on all of them to compare them. Obviously there’s a difference between there inside and driving outside but it’d be cool to see.

Just recieved mine today and God dsmn is this thing tight! I followed the sizing chart so hopefully is correct. Putting it on and taking it off hurts pretty bad, wheb taking it off it squeezed the hell out of my head. Felt like it was cutting off blood flow. Hopefully this thing will loosen up a bit as the next size up would definitely be to big for me. Should have just made more in-between sizes instead of putting two sizes in one helmet. I'm usually a size small so a small/medium would be to big and and extra small is to small. So anyway. Fingers crossed.

So close to the same noise level as a vacuum cleaner. Nice. So maybe we wait for the 5.0. It just keeps getting better but is it there yet for the cost, the wait, and will the fitment work? All up to the individual I would say.

If you don’t like it or trust it that’s fine. It’s early. The helmet just launched. More reviews will come from people who have bought them. One of my friends made it to their event and he got a free helmet as well and he went and bought 2 more right after. It really is the best product that they have put out, and nobody is gonna deny that, free helmet or not

Id still give it a 2 star rating out of 5. The ventilation is useless on the top vent, visor always fogs, vent switch upfront is STILL in a awkward position, finishing quality is very questionable. The only thibg going for the 4.0 is looks. Yet again ruroc form over function.

I’ve been fairly happy with mine for this summer season. I do agree the ventilation is sort of odd still, but have not had the issues with fogging. So far no broken parts or worn out bits yet with a season of riding as my primary helmet so I can’t say much about build or longevity that is negative as of yet

Hey! Thanks for watching. My head measured in at 59cm. I measured it nice and snug with the tape, and the ML is a perfect fit. For me, I wouldn’t go any larger than this. I would say with the rule of helmets, get yourself into the smallest one that will fit and not be uncomfortable.

A lot of the noise in a helmet comes from the bottom around the neck. Placing the helmets on a blanket is not a proper way to judge wind noise in the helmet

So I for one am curious up until about 5 months ago your channel was sporting an ICON Helmet and now all of a sudden you are a Ruroc expert with a review on the 3.0 and two on the 4.0 with alot of Ruroc merch in the video an no actual riding impressions videos. What the viewers realy want to know is are these videos sponsored, and how honest a review can we expect when the marketing ploys are obvious???

Good point. So I’ll address. I have a collection of helmets from AGV to Icon to Shoei to Bell and I have just recently got into the Ruroc last season as I always loved the look. My impressions on the 4.0 stand. I’ve rode with it as my main helmet all season and it’s holding up great and I love it. The video is not sponsored FYI

I appreciate your work on this review and your opinion. I was hoping you could advise on the view port (size) of the Atlas 4.0 . I am considering the Atlas 4.0 or the Shoei GT Air II for my road helmet (not for the track). Hoping you could relate the vision using the Atlas 4.0 and the Shoei GT Air II. I never considered the Atlas 3.0 but I think the large view port was a positive feature .

Yes I would agree that the FOV on these helmets is quite good and at least 10% wider than most. The 4.0 uses an identical visor to the previous model, so there has been no change there. If you’re familiar with the view on the 3.0, this would be the same.

got the 4.0 last week, garbage helmet in my opinion, the sizing guide is off, unless you want it to hurt putting it on and off, and there is two identical pieces of coarse fabric that scratch your head a little when you put it on. granted this probably would be less of an issue if the size was right. went with shoei and the difference is night and day in weight and comfort.

4.0 finally made me dip into getting an Atlas. Been waiting for a long time but wasn't feeling good about a lot of the issues so many people were talking about. It seems like they actually finally fixed a lot of the issues. I honestly thought the 4.0 would just be a slightly improved 3.0 because that's how it seems all the versions have been. So happy they brought Mercury back as well because that's the one I was wanting. All said and done, the total ended up being a tad over $900 with the pinlock, crash protection, Shockwave, etc. so I hope it's well worth it. GearsandGadgets actually said it was on the level, or perhaps even above, his Shoei helmets... which is really impressive.

I would say that shoei still has more experience making helmets, but Ruroc definitely matched a lot of their quality and gave us what we would expect from a premium helmet with the 4.0. I am super happy with the way they handled this, and put out a truly great product instead of just fixing one thing and saying here’s the next iteration.

Your statement that 3db's is a "100 percent change in overall loudness" is a bit misleading. In audio, you get a 3db increase in volume by doubling the power, or in this case half. A 10 db increase is typically considered being twice as "loud", which requires 10x more power. A 3db change is typically the smallest increment the human ear can perceive a volume change, maybe less if you have super ears. I know I can't tell a difference of 1db that's for sure, I used to work in audio. If you turn your volume knob really slow and stop when you think it got louder, that's probably about 3db. So the new helmet is perceivably quieter, which is awesome. They've cut the amount of audible "power" coming through the helmet in half, so kudos to Ruroc for that, but it's not 100 percent quieter or "half" as loud. They've turned the volume down one notch. But good test, I was thinking of a good objective way to test this, I might steal that idea for my reviews :p

Yeah. I hear what you’re saying. I used to work In Audio as well actually. I was sort of trying to dumb it down for people to understand. But 3-4db quieter is fairly significant perceptually. I mean it’s not the best set up test either, but it’s definitely improved

And I don’t even mind HD! Good review man. Very thorough and your wind tunnel test tells a lot, both from the db meter visual and the audio in the video. I’m looking to pick one of the 4.0 up eventually. Torn on waiting for a Black Friday sale, or snagging a Ghost 4.0 because that helmet is *chefs kiss*… or getting in touch with Ruroc to say I’d review their products on my channel as well. Archie is a great guy and we’ve actually talked before, so maybe I could reach out to him for a special order. In due time though! Keep up the content and stay on the grind. 👍

I’m legit excited about this helmet because I can’t find anything wrong with it other than it being expensive. It looks sick, and it’s actually friggin great so far! I was supposed to go to the launch to get my helmet and test ride there but I got Covid and couldn’t make it :/ I’m sure they will do a sale real soon tho, once the launch is over.

For anybody who ordered a 4.0, how long did it take to deliver?

I got my order confirmation on Sunday night (Monday morning uk time) and it was on my doorstep on Friday when I got home from work. Your mileage may vary depending on which design you picked and whether it’s back ordered or not

The atlas 3.0 helmet, sucked, they screwed me over, I had to put it together and all the stitching came out and the helmet fell apart, they said I could return it and I WAITED AND WAITED for them to send me the slips and they never did, I finally contacted them and they said time had expired, So I was stuck with a Junk helmet, too loud helmet, air quality sucked, padding sucked, the speakers where no loud and the blue tooth microphone scraped your face taking your helmet off and on, totally sucked, I ordered a fog proof visor and the small pins that hold it together came off the atlas helmet and I could not add the visor, so that money was wasted, all in all these helmets suk camel ass.

So here it is almost a year and half later and I just opened my atlas.4.0, I decided to buy an updated one, there is no charging cable in the box for the blue tooth how do you charge it, no directions, what are those black round pucks for, that are soft, ? i dont know? everyone who makes a video just throws in on the table and does not talk about it. ? help
