Do you ever wonder why he envied him? To me its because of how he lived, laid back when not in the cockpit, wins a championship a didn't need more. Just raced when he needed to and left it all on the track.
Puro To be fair, he said chilling. Not meaningful. Not everyone has to be as passionate about a piece of work as you, no matter how good it is. For all we know, at least @Andrew Kuhn appreciates the work. And don’t put words into people’s mouths. Also this film has been around for 6 years now, and the video for 5. What were you wanting him to do? Post an ass-kissing comment every year or pay respects at an appropriate time like this?
2:31 I love that little detail the director put in. When Niki talked about the vaccum, James throws his cigarette down and steps on it. Just a subtle hint of how James respects Niki.
@@NPA1001 To be fair, very few Americans are even aware of Indycar compared to F1 and most Americans who don’t care for F1 don’t care for NASCAR either.
@@NPA1001 Nascar is a very southern thing I think. I live in the northeast and most of my friends dont really care about auto racing, some even thing indycar is simply f1 in the us...
Evidence that F1 films don’t get the recognition from America is that the great 2010 Documentary ‘Senna’ won the award for best Documentary from every organisation in the World… it didn’t even make the long list from the Oscars let alone get a nomination.
@@ceedot2578 It's not black and blue. It's probably bcoz of the sunset reflection on the Ferrari car. But yea, it's still the same old classic red Ferrari As for the colors, the reason that McLaren looked so different than their today's car is bcoz of their sponsorship deal with Marlboro. Back then, Marlboro serves as the main sponsor of McLaren for a very long time until 1996
"He remains the only person I envied" easily one of the best delivered lines in any movies. Pretty much the conclusion of the whole movie and a very touching end
I love how this conversation doesn’t feel like a lecture from one towards the other, but an exchange of ideas. Both have good points about their view of racing and life as a whole, and I think both walked away from this moment having learned something from one another.
Nikki Lauder said in interview that was his favourite scene in the film. It showed how they had gone from friends to rivals to friends over the year, which is how it was. Both of them, true sportsmen, in different ways.
@@danielmoorefield4891 it can, “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups (jews and gentiles) one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,” Ephesians 2:15 I will pray for you man
THAT'S where he's from! Thank you! I couldn't place it but I knew I saw him somewhere. Yeah I could have looked it up but it was right on the tip of my tongue lol thanks for that
2:28 i just noticed, i think hunt put out his cigarette when hearing about lauda's lung damage. Not sure if it was out of respect or worry of his own health or if i'm overthinking it. Thought i'd mention it.
As someone who has spent time as an actor and producer/director, it sets up the rest of the scene. Him disposing of the cigarette is basically to listen to laudas story. Yes it’s a sign of respect, not the way you’re thinking though. When interacting with someone who is describing a terrible story or something emotional, it’s a psychological trigger to give your full attention, and by disposing of the cigarette, he is giving lauda his undivided attention.
Lauda once said: "He is the only man whose life I really envied. Even towards the end when I saw him in scruffy trainers you knew there was a man who lived life to the full."
Yes, he was so great portaying James Hunt, and Daniel B. was awesome portraing Niki Lauda and they had the chemistry that's so needed in this type of film... I also love Chris's performance as a villain in a last year movie called "Bad Times at the El Royale"... A synopsis of Chis's character in "Bad Times at the El Royale"👉 Billy Lee wasn't a character meant to scare or rather intimidate the audience like a serial killer psychopath type of character, Chris's character (Billy Lee) didn't had to much screen time (he was in El Royal briefly) or backstory in the movie to portray the character in that direction. It was more that he was evil because he had a god complex, he was this charismatic manipulative Cult Leader, that with his charismatic manipulative personality basically brainwashed his weak minded followers, and they were willing to do anything for him. Anything he told them to do, they were willing to do without hesitation, they were willing to kill for him, like one of the girls of the movie did. (same as Mason's followers or other cult leader's followers). And that of course makes him a dangerous man.. The scene from his backstory, where he's "preaching" to his followers, they showed his character doing something that Manson used to do on his hippie cult with his female followers, some of them were yeah underage girls and that's one of the creepy aspects of Billy Lee (in real life the actress that played the role of one his lovers was a bit older than 21 years old but in the movie she looked underage I don't know if that was one of the reason the director chose her, but it could have been)... Billy Lee was multi-layered, he was charming, entertaining, and at times he was downright scary. Besides the reasons I mention above, what also made Billy a scary man it's that he was a "calm" guy on the surface, most of the time, but he did showed some fits of rage on the roulette table and when that happen we were able to see his true personality ... ✔English it's not my native tongue, I hope you were able to understand what I wrote, sorry if you didn't ..
This is Hemsworth's best film. No cap. He was probably cast in this because of his resemblance to Hunt, but he knocked the performance out of the park. They both did.
02:28 Extraordinary detail. When Niki mentioned the vacuum, James immediately threw away the cigarette and stepped on it. That showed how much he respected him. He didn't want Niki to smoke passively
How can you compare a fictional story of some dickheads sliding slow cars around to a real story of one of the greatest formula 1 rivalries of all time
this movie got me into f1. i had no prior knowledge of how it works, who are involved and what is on the line in this sport. now I don't think my life would be the same without f1; without this movie.
Good for you! I'm a Formula 1 guy from way back. I remember that accident. It was horrible. Niki was my favorite driver and it was stunning. I never expected to see him behind the wheel again. Knowing about F1 beforehand allows a different view. I'd also point out that Nürburgring is one hell of a track Die Grune Hölle
This movie introduced me to Formula 1. I got more into it as the years wore on, and it eventually became fandom from watching the great Rubens Barrichello (While binging the 1999 season during the offseason between 2021 Abu Dhabi and 2022 Bahrain and off weekends in 2022)
The scene is perfect. Great dialogue, great acting and a great dissemination of their personalities. Drive vs. Technique, Logic vs. Passion. Both completely different but both vital to being the best. Not just in racing, but in life. It perfectly shows both their rivalry and mutual respect of each other. This scene is perfect.
I rewatched the movie for the 3rd time today and it truly is, such a damn. good movie. Just a really. good. movie! I don't see how oscars can be so blind
Oscar meant for not out of soil and always it got buyers inside! We gave our hearts of Oscar to this masterpiece and we witnessed the crown of Rush still challenging after all. Every single piece worth more!
"He was among the very few I liked, and even fever that I respected." Such a wonderful story of rivalry. Swear this movie is one of the best ever made. Underrated
Appreciating your rival takes a heart. Niki had it, so did James. They were miles apart in their thought process, but close enough to appreciate the fines and skill other possessed. That's what defines a true sportsman spirit.
@Roger B Sorry if i was inappropriate, but i get iritated when i see comments like that, i have an american collegue at work, and he is braging always about how they are good at sports, and i gave him the following arguments You call your sports events World series of.... someting, and you play among yourselfs. See my point? angain, sorry if i offend, that is not my intention
@Roger B God bless for taking it on the chin mate, I was reading down the comments and was expecting this to get super heated, and I'm so glad it didnt!
I like how Ron Howard ends his movies, gives you the goosebumps and a satisfactory end but it keeps you thinking. Like how he ended The Da Vinci Code, one of my favorite closing acts.
When I heard he died aged 45 of a heart attack, I wasn't surprised, I was just sad. People always think of us as rivals, but he was among the very few I liked. And even fewer that I respected. He remains the only person I envied.
@@77anfi but you dont have a brain? He shared the dialogue because of how good it was and to let people feel and reply to it not because he wanted deaf people to know.
Some of his choices are good but his movies outside mcu haven’t performed well on BO. This one is a perfect example of a good movie yet failed to perform well at BO.
As others have wisely pointed out, when James responded to Lauda's "you know my position, 20% risk," comment, that rightfully book ended the entire movie.. Hunt reminded Niki why they got into that sport in the first place...it wasn't to minimize risk, it was to race. The look on his face as James replied to him said it all. The introspection. It was all there. What a great movie...one of the best movies about auto racing ever. Certainly on the Mt. Rushmore of 'em.
Jack Stawowczyk lauda said it was 82% accurate, they just added them together in a few scenes in the movie that never took place but the way they acted towards eachother on the race track was real, they were competitive, but off the track they were actually good friends.
That was meant to be the sound of the Ferrari flat12 and, the equally impressive Ford Cosworth DFV V8. Both of them today still sound very impressive. They just have a better sound than current F1 engines.
And today Monday the 20th of March 2019 the legend called Niki Lauda died after so many times he won death. I wish the next generations will remember him like on of the best drivers ever lived and they will never forget what he managed to do. Rest in peace Niki
Now, do Rush 2 with Senna and Prost. But like this movie, involve Prost as much as it could. So we will get the real story unlike some unbiased documentary
Unfortunately it probably won’t happen. Senna’s family will have too much input in it and will try and censor anything that could consider to be against the whole “senna was an infallible god” thing.
@@AidanMillward if Ron Howard is still the director I believe he will do the story justice. Rush isn't his first gig at History drama. A Beautiful Mind was another Masterpiece
to be honest, no rivalry will ever match this in my opinion. it would ruin this movie, take away the good in it. Senna and prost were good rivals, but they werent as contrasting characters as hunt and lauda. the build up wouldnt be anywhere near as good, it wouldnt be the same
Plus Senna and Prost in real life wouldn't make such diverse, interesting characters. Nigel Mansell in real life was more of a "film character" than the two combined. I'd rather see the cinematic Larry Bird v Magic Johnson.
I hope in time, this film and the actors get their justice... No awards or recognition for such an epic film. We see crap hero movies constantly. And art like this forgotten 😢
It remains my only film or biopic that an actor that Daniel Bruhl has got the accent to exactly that of Nikki Lauda. You could close your eyes and think it’s him talking.
Amazing scene. The yin and yang of two successful male personalities. The nose to the grindstone guy who does things by the book and the live for pleasure guy who is just balls out crazy. Epic scene.
@L every racer is a rival Lightning McQueen vs. Chick Hicks & Jackson Storm Sonic vs. Jet Tails vs. Wave Knuckles vs. Storm Crash vs. Cortex Coco vs. N. Gin & Nina Crunch vs. N. Gin & Tiny Annoying Thing vs. Boss Drone Mondo Gecko vs. Fishface
Hot damn this movie is good. Infinetly watchable. Came completely out of left field for me, i only watched it the first time out of boredome and boy was I rewarded. Ive seen it a dozen times and i dont plan on stopping.
This will always one of the best stories I had the pleasure of seeing on film. Two complete opposites in every way with utmost respect for each other. RIP Men
one day when Niki is called home, James will be waiting for him with a grin on his face and two cars lined up outside the gates of heaven, and God himself will watch them drive.
@@steve4nj Thankfully, this 85% is quickly disappearing, as people start noticing how stupid it is to explain things we don't understand yet as products of a supernatural being.
Notice how neither of them are agreeing with each other's mentality on the sport. Just two people adding to their arguments And the real beauty is that there's truth to both sides. You can choose to follow either and it wouldn't stop you from being champs as both of them ended
Wait till 2026 when it’s 50:50 combustion engine and Duracell batteries, 75kg of sustainable fuels (whatever the fuck that is) and v6 turbo trolley engines which sound like..trolleys..F1 has gone woke and green.
Well everyone praise Bruhl (rightfully tho) we know Bruhl was amazing, there's no doubt about it, but he's saying Chris because people tend to not give Hemsworth enough credit for his performance in this movie, when the fact is that was great here... They both did a great work AND the actors had the chemistry needed to portray the relationship that the characters had, the chemistry factor was an important element in the movie and they certaintly had it 👍😉
@@__jan6113 Was great. I dont remember a movie that Chris was bad in. He is kind of like Tom Cruise. Mostly in good movies, sometimes in bad movies but never bad in any movie.
They had two extremely different methods but both loved the sport. One of the best forms of respect was someone telling you that he is willing to die just to beat you .
Jackie Stewart was my favorite but Niki was a close second and when he had his accident I was actually saddened and worried for him. His comeback was amazingly unexpected. Now that he's passed, this scene is even more poignant.
This scene especially the end brought tears to me, they had the upmost respect for each other, they were friends who were inseparable, it hurts to watch the scene, but so refreshing and bringing light to a rivalry which they kept on the track, and not off it
