Neil’s ode to avoiding the trap of fans, fame, and fortune or the limelight. R.I.P. Neil Peart and long live the mighty Rush. Fun reaction and review 👊🏻
As a side note, years ago I was called by a customer to do some landscape design at a home north of Toronto. I showed up and met the customer and his customer (homeowner). It was Alex Lifeson, you’d have never known…such a gentleman, he looked more like my teenage high school teacher 😁
Alex Lifeson, is so underrated when it comes to best guitarists. While he may not be on the level of Clapton or Eddie Van Halen, but he deserves so much recognition. This is one of my favorite songs from them, and I love that guitar solo in this song.
Not only my favorite Rush song, but one of my all-time favorite rock songs as well. I'm surprised it doesn't get more love. Check out "Subdivisions" next.
This is Alex’s greatest guitar solo, IMO. Not his most technical, sparse with lots of space between the notes, dynamic, use of harmonics, and this weird yet wonderful jerkiness. Absolutely perfect.
The building, in the snowy landscape, cross the water, with the big dog -one of Rush's favorite recording studios, in Quebec. In Geddy's 'new' autobiography, he says that from their home around Toronto, OT, they could drive over to Quebec to LeStudio. There was a fine hotel, and some good restaurants near -and while they recorded, their families could visit with. Note poster for David Lynch's first movie "eraserhead" on the wall.
There's been some great power trios, I loved Cream, but they were short lived. This band had been knocking out great music for more than four decades. They have to be considered the best.
A possible reason why this song sounds familiar is because it was featured in the movie I Love You Man, about 2 guys who bond over their love of the band.
Great song and Alex's solo is so beautifully haunting. ❤❤❤ Some live suggestions Working them Angels Time Machine Tour Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour Secret Touch from the Snakes and Arrows tour Show don't tell (Rabbit coming out of the hat intro) live Presto Tour 1990 Earthshine live in Rio I so enjoy your reactions! You are a 60's child at heart. Cheers ❤
Part of Neil's discomfort with fame came from his introverted nature, which meant that too much social interaction could drain his mental energy, so he needed time to himself to recharge, and he would rather spend his energy on maintaining meaningful relationships with his bandmates, family, and close friends rather than squander it on "making nice" with a bunch of strangers; he also struggled with anxiety issues stemming from a near-drowning incident at the age of 10. If you'd like to see a more laid back performance, I'd like to recommend Resist from Test For Echo; during their shows in Rio and Frankfurt, Geddy and Alex would perform it acoustically while Neil would take time to recharge after one of his extended drum solos. Cheers from Toronto! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
And then there are some real ballads like Panacea, Madrigal, Tears, Rivendell and some others like Losing It, Tai Shan (all of which many Rush fans don't like :) but I happen to like them all a great deal). Witch Hunt is also a bit slower than usual.
I believe this is the studio version. They just filmed it. But I agree with your comment. You must first hear the music without distraction. Like we did. That's the true musical experience so many of us were more than lucky to have.
@gerib4234 I know this is the studio version I was answering him at the beginning of his video he said he was thinking about going back to live versions again in the near future
Thanks for getting to this classic. I am going to re-watch your reaction to Ghost of a Chance. Love that track as well. Have you checked out Between the Wheels live in Germany? I think you would like that great live performance.
Great reaction, Shawn. I love when you really feel it. It touches my heart to know I turned you on to Ghost of a Chance and it stayed with you. These are 2 slower songs played live that get me in the feels and I think you will like them: Main Monkey Business (Slow-ish Instrumental that drops into a really cool groove) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mGf9JcSXvCc.html The Garden (a beautiful song that I cannot hear without crying) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EsBNzf5JlZA.html
