Geddy Lee plays impossible bass lines while singing and playing synth with his feet while this morning I stare at an empty cereal bowl in the fridge as I was walking to the dishwaher with a jug of milk.
The reason the 3 of them sound so large is that the lead, Alex, plays like a true lead guitarist does and Geddy plays his bass like a lead guitarist would and Neil plays his drums like a lead guitarist does! They all play like there's no tomorrow all the time.!
Nothing better than starting my day with some RUSH!! This is one of my favourite songs by them and yes you can feel the fun they were having performing this song. Cheers 🇨🇦
Great Reaction! The friendship between these three is totally genuine and the fans are the most amazing group of people! I've never met a shady Rush fan. The drummer is Neil Peart, one ofthemodt influential drummers in rock. And also one of the best lyricist as well!
Neil wrote the lyrics for this after reading a short story in motortrend about a dystopian future where old cars are outlawed. The author ofthe story later wrote Neil and mentioned that it was his article that inspired the song and Neil ended up inviting him on a motorcycle trip followed by concert as a guest of the band.
Over 40 years of amazing friendship with each other and their fans. They created some of the best music on the planet. Genuine Band with Genuine fans. I miss all my RUSH concerts, but the incredible memories are etched in me forever!
That rich sound comes from: Geddy Lee plays Bass and Keyboards, sings and play pedal synth sometimes WHILE singin and bassing, Alex Lifeson plays guitars AND (mostly when Geddy is not on bass) bass pedal synths and sometimes sings background vocals, and speaking of Neil Peart (R.I.P. Professor), he writes the incredible lyrics and was one of the best drummers that ever existed. So they are not called The best band in the galaxy for nothing. Saw them two times here in Germany and it was f...in awesome. (by the way Rush is the only band that Babymetal couldn't overtake in my personal ranking...and that says a lot)
Saw many Rush concerts. Caught some tours twice. This is my 2nd all-time fav band after AC/DC. What shows! FYI, yes they are doing their actual laundry onstage during the concert. For real. The greatest drummer of all time, Neil Peart 1952 - 2020. RIP, brother.
What this song does for me is remind me of a day long ago, likely at around this same time of year, playing street hockey with a bunch of kids and screaming "CAAAAARRRRRR!!!!!" every 5-6 minutes.
Rush was impossibly good live. How they were able to reproduce everything live so faithfully is a mystery to me. Geddy did struggle with the high vocals as he aged, but he never complained, and with few exceptions, never rearranged. He just forged on to the end of his career and was mostly able to continue singing the lines the way they were written. The fans were never upset because to the fans Geddy, Alex, and Neil were our friends even if we never met them. That is why so many people were devastated when Neil passed. That being said, new songs were written with Geddy's changing range in mind. In many ways, I thought Geddy's voice improved as he aged. It became smoother, richer and more mellow. Try listening to "The Garden" live in Dallas. You will see what I mean.
The bass in the finish to this version live is way busier than any other recording I've heard. They were so comfortable on stage together they could just about improvise over their own already complex music.
This isn't even Geddy's vocals in his prime! Go back to their 1981 concert and you'll hear the version of this song as it was written in the same register he was capable of singing in back then. And for Neil's drum kit... it grew with the years. He had to cram 18 albums worth of percussion sounds into a kit that he could use during concerts. His studio kits were MUCH smaller than this, as they were dedicated to whatever the album they were recording was.
@@Violator41 another awesome concert I seen back around 82 or 83 I’m not sure which year but it was Queen , with Billy Squire is the opening act. I got to see them two times also that is definitely some very fond memories. I miss the late 70s and the 80s for sure
Keep listening and you will learn much. When I first started up playing guitar I listen to these guys and it just brought me to a much better level. Always got me aiming higher
Brilliantsong. Brilliant album. Brilliant band. Im not gonna go into the story because I'm sure everyone already has, but Neil was an incredible writer. I would encourage everyone to read his actual novels regarding RUSH and not so much regarding RUSH. The man is fascinating. That being said, this song is a science fiction masterpiece.
Limelight Exit Stage Left - Geddy's voice in its prime, not to mention one awesome bass line, some insane drumming from Neil, and one of Alex's best guitar solos ever! 🎤 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
Should have done the live version from Exit Stage Left tour , sound is much better, not saying that this doesn't sound good , but the other version is much truer to the sound of the studio version. R.I.P. Neil !
Neil's drumsets evolved into absolute works of art once he bagan his collaboration s with DW and Sabian. The cymbals are his own Sabian line Paragon. Notice the artwork on the shells, the etching on the cymbals and the color of the hardware.
Three virtuoso musicians in a power trio...What more could you ask for? Some other trios you might want to check out are ZZTop,The Police,King'sX, and this one is kinda obscure...Zebra. I've seen them all play live and each band left me wondering how you can get that huge sound with three guys.🤘🤘✌
Geddy Lee's most amazing self come to us clear in this song... Oh my vocals and the bass. Yah It's my favorite that he did... Not necessarily that the band did. Yah This ROCKS!!!
Unfortunately Geddy has to strain anymore while he sings in certain registers, you should listen to the original version or an earlier live version from the 80’s or 90’s where his voice still sounds great. Also there various bands at the time, whose drummers had some pretty big drum kits, I think Neil just used his better in my opinion.
So glad the second half of Wolf Hunters hit on Rush. Not their best performance of this tune but if that’s less than what they’re capable of, that’s pretty amazing.
You Show your young generation lack of 70’s 89’s rock! Neil peart is the best rock drummer ever, Geddy Lee the best bassist all time, and Alex Lifeson the most underrated rock guitarist ever! Do some research you all!😳🤪👍
