Both Dirk and Lerxst trigger the synth parts with their pedals. At the opening there is a subtle synth chord that Dirk triggers and it doesn't come through hence his pointing at it. The sequencer part and low chords during "invisible airwaves crackle with life..." are actually triggered by Lerxst.
