They're called multidirectional because there are two occasions of using them: 1. Round trips (going and coming back, so there are two directions) Я хожу в магазин по утрам Я езжу на работу каждый день 2. Wandering around without any particular direction or a final destination (so multiple directions can take place) Я два часа ходил по лесу / I was walking (wandering) in the forest for two hours Я весь день ездил по Москве / I was wandering in Moscow all the day long
I wish there existed someone like you for every language that someone wanted to learn. You're practical approach (e.g. think of these as separate verbs) is so useful for someone learning the language and breaks with the traditional explanation that often comes in textbooks and ends up being more theoretical and overly 'linguisitc' than useful for actual communication. I wants to find one of you who can teach me Polish :-)
Another thing that might not seem that important to most people, but I've noticed it from time to time as I've studied different languages. It's a bit more helpful for me, as a man, to have a channel like this that is presented by a man. It's not about quality of the examples or instruction, but sometimes about having a same-gender role model. I've noticed, from an "English ear", that Russian can be spoken very differently by a man and a woman with regards to intonation and pitch. Of course this difference exists to a certain extent in many languages, but I've found it helpful to hear a man speaking a language that I'm studying so that I can try to imitate the accent and pitch of that gender. Obviously, most of the language channels on RU-vid are from women. I have no problem with this as the vocabulary and grammar is the same and they're usually nicer to look at ;-)

@@bernhardlesche3283 Most likely, this was used as a vernacular to show that the man was not of higher blood. Or it was just something common in the old times. We don't use that today in standart Russian, it just sounds off.

somone wrote that Russian has about 1,240 verbs of the English equivalent "go". When you factor in perfective/imperfective and prefixes, this sounds logical. Ouch

This is extraordinarily complex and difficult, and an absolute confusion like any topic in Russian grammar, I don't think I will ever understand it. For example, are these verbs unidirectional or multidirectional?: брести-бродить лезть-лазить ползти-ползать вести-водить Etc.
“Where are you going?” “I’m going to university. I’ve got a lesson in 5 minutes”. Куда ты идёшь? Я иду в университет, у меня будет лекция через 5 минут. I don’t swim very often because I have to go to work. Я не часто плаваю, потому что мне надо ходить работать. I’m going to Rome by train to meet a friend. I go there every year. Я еду в Рим на поезде встретиться с другом. Я езжу туда каждый год.
It should be either "потому что мне надо работать" or "потому что мне надо ходить на работу". Your way is also correct, but it just sounds a little off to me.
When you say 'Я еду в москву' is there an implication that you're the one driving? Or can you say it if you're in a vehicle regardless of who's driving?
Nope, you use ехать and ездить when you are using whatever vehicle to get to your destination, not only if you're the one driving it. "Я езжу на работу на метро" (I go to work by metro).
Great video. Thanks for the upload. I have a question. How can a verb of motion that suggest a habit such as ходить have a perfective variant???? It seems so contradictory.
Because you can also describe a habit that you WILL be doing, or that you did in the past. I'm not a native speaker so someone please correct me if I'm wrong but this is how I understand it: i.e. 1) С мая я схожу на пляж каждую неделю - from (starting in) May, I will go to the beach every week. 2) каждый день после школы мы сходили в парк - we went to the park every day after school.

Nope. It will be - "я поеду" - future simple in English... = "I will go". "Я езжу" is present continues in English & in Russian it will be exactly like this - "Я езжу".

Каждую субботу and yeah we need to put it in the accusative case. Any time we say "on + whatever weekday", we need to put the day in the accusative case. When it comes to date "on + exact date", we need to put the date in the genitive case. Might make a video on this, not sure if there's a lot to cover here.

Hi) "Здравствуйте, могу я поинтересоваться?" In English it's like -"Hello, can I ask you?" and bla-bla-bla (what you want to know from other person) So, you can say also - "Здравствуйте, могу я спросить?". But you can meet different people in Russia (and with criminal past, I mean). Its low probability, but I not recommend you use "спросить", special if you will walk in "bad" suburbs. Use "поинтересоваться" Kind regards.
The real question should be 'What does your shirt MEAN' What is says and what it actually means are different. It's kind of a joke. Да in this context does not mean 'Yes'. In English this phrase means something more like 'Hmm... probably not' and would be used as a response to a question like 'Do you want to go to a restaurant tonight' when you're not really in the mood for it. Fedor did a video about it.
